so not into it..

I will never buy smart watch unless there is something phone cannot do much better in bigger screen

I think Google have definitely gone in the right direction here. Could be some serious competition.
But will it work 100% with my iPhone? Probably not, so I'll still be waiting for the possibility of an iWatch till my contract runs out in 2015.

I'm assuming Android Wear will work with Android phones, so not with your iPhone.

Obviously, but people in this thread are calling it a paper or vapor launch when an actual product, which looks stunning, launches this summer, that's my point

My point is looks aren't everything. Let's wait and see how this functions and what battery life is before getting a hard-on. Last year when Bloomberg and the. Verge reported on Apple's "watch" plans they said Apple was frustrated because they weren't able to get more than 2 days battery life. That leads me to believe we won't see anything from Apple until they're able to nail longer battery life.

This is the first time I'm getting afraid that Apple might lose everything to Google someday. Should they really keep everything closed? Google is so much faster with opening up everything..

Because Google made an announcement first? Really?

Can you go out and buy one of these watches right now? No. Will you be able to buy one before an iWatch? Maybe. Has being first ever been important to Apple? Not really. iPod, iPhone and iPad were not first to market.

Then by your definition ever iPhone and iPad launch has bee nothing more then a vapor launch aka BS

Take the fanboy hat off for once

No by my definition there is no reason to get excited about a mockup.

Let me know when the real product is out especially a new product category.

Apple certainly doesn't make commercials showing off how fake consumers are enjoying its product 6 months before it might come out.

When Apple announced the iPad you saw a feckin' iPad. On the stage. IN person. Being used by Jobs. Same thing with the phone. And half the time the products are available for the purchase the same day.

Now go grow a brain please.

Remember when Apple was late to the MP3 market and then crushed it with the iPod? Remember when they were late to smartphones and crushed it with the iPhone? Remember when they were late to tablets and revived it while crushing the netbook with the iPad?

Remember when Apple was late to wearables and crushed it with the...?

No other company can execute a market changing device like Apple can.

First of all - these things are just mockups. At no point do you see the real device. Even the OS is just inserted digitally.

How will the screens look under sunlight? How is the battery life?

second I think they totally got it wrong. I dont think it should look like a watch. Watches were round for different reasons ( because of the gears). I dont even think APple will release something that looks like a watch and more like a wristband

Great, now how about you show us an actual product?

irmongoose

The SDK is the product. If you mean hardware, that's up to the various manufacturers. Google have sewn the seeds, now it's up to the manufacturers to reap the rewards.

{snip}

Google launched this so when Apple releases an actual working, purchasable product, they can anchor back to this video and say: "Look, we're not copying Apple! We're innovators! We were first! We're a giant university of idea-men! We've got tons of ideas! Ideas as we all know are worth 100000x more than execution!!! We are Google!!! The innovation capital of the google-verse. All bow to our vapor-novation"

Google is just an ad company that has a ton of money to run vapor-ware science experiments with.

(P.S. I also think you should buy some Google shares, they're going to keep rocking the advertisement/data world)

Bolded: You're conflating Google and Samsung's reputations. Not the same thing.

What exactly is objectionable about Google releasing an SDK for developers? If an excellent product is developed then consumers win. I still can't see the downside. If nothing successful is developed, consumers can continue to do as they always have.

Just so you know I heard Apple is augmenting their iPhone trade-in program. For every two over the top exclamation points (!), they are offering a more sensible period(.) Two more exclamation points and you can get a free ellipsis.

couldn't have said it better myself

Yeah, you could have. It's mostly just raving nonsense.

With the iPhone Apple had fewer competitors right at first.

With the watch, the field is going to be crowded right from the beginning.

The competition is having time to release one, two, and maybe three iterations of its products, before Apple enters the market (if at all).

Fuelband is awesome. Nike products are great. This MOTO watch looks sweet.

I love Apple stuff.... but ya can't wear a rumor on your wrist.

I personally am not sure I really need any of these gizmos, but I hope for Apple's sake that it releases its watch (if at all) within the next few months.
This still seems like a solution looking for a problem, or tech companies trying to feed the beast, looking for the next big thing because tech geeks are getting bored. I hope if we get something from Apple it is unique and has a purpose other than jumping on some bandwagon.

On the link, the 5th or so image down shows the whole watch (or at least one design comp of a one model variant) and it’s extremely pretty piece of design.

Funny that there's not one image showing a female wrist. I guess women would just get these things wet while they're busy washing my dishes.

There are very real uses for wearables, especially waterproof ones - kayaking, for example. Keep your phone in your drybox, use your watch to tell your wife how much longer you'll be, or to drop pins on your favorite fishing spot. There are a lot of times I don't want to take my phone out of my pocket or backpack for various reasons, but it'd still be nice to be able to control it easily without having to fiddle with it or press any buttons. Working on the mill in the shop, for example. Or welding. ...or when I'm wrenching on my truck and my phone is inside it, but I'm underneath. The list goes on and on. If they can pull it off well, I can see it being useful.

I think there are a lot of cases where an iWatch device would be useful. Just not enough to make it profitable. Apple isn't an edge case company. I'm not saying your use examples are not legitimate. I'm just saying I don't think Apple is going to serve those use cases.

……….. I maybe the only one here, but I do not get it. It does the same thing as my iPhone……. it is why we have smartphones. Talk to Siri, Map, iMessages(texting), etc. So what is the difference?

And it seems so so boring and rather dull like those two guys…… zero personality…….. zero character. Oh well.

It's so you can get the information at a quick glance without pulling out your phone.

They need to make a classy/dress version and one make like a Gshock.

Instead of pulling out your phone while exercising you can look at you wrist and get all your information from there and other functions.

In a meeting instead of picking up your phone or taking it out of your pocket to see who txt'd your or who is calling you can see it via the watch or if you're out someplace instead of sitting your phone on the table and potentially leaving it, you can leave it in your pocket or bag.

I can see application of the watch. Samsung just threw something out there.
This looks to be more thought out

why are you afraid? do you work for apple?

That's a terrible name

Why all the hate?

This forum used to love google back when the iPhone 1st and 2nd gen was released

Perhaps if Google weren't headed by arrogant developers who only care about exploiting the user rather than producing quality products, it might be different.

Then there's also the whole thing where Google blatantly stole the entire iPhone concept and called it Android.

Your fuelband will be collecting dust in no time

Android is innovation

Are they to just not compete?

Everything is copied

Ask any artist

Again just a lot of mock-up devices and dreams. There is no product in these videos just either mocked up devices or at best prototypes. Pointless

It is no less a dream than when the new Mac Pro was previewed. Mac Pro even had the vague delivery date of "fall" like this does summer. So this isn't any different.

1) So you are now assessing the characteristics of Google's developers (as opposed to management?) And further all their motivations. Wow - nice crystal ball there.

2) iPhone is a product. If you're going to bash competition, perhaps you should do it correctly and claim that Google "blatantly stole the entire" iOS "concept and called it Android"

Which.. by the way.. they didn't.
