does not support the GSM band used by AT&T and Rogers (canada) for 3g service. as if at&t couldn't be bad enough, they only use t-mobile's 3g network? yikes.

T-Mobile takes entire 3G network to 7.2Mbps. Here's the story from Engadget

... T-Mobile USA took a nice little interim step today in announcing that its entire 3G footprint has now been upgraded from 3.6 to 7.2Mbps. Considering that AT&T won't be at 100 percent 7.2Mbps coverage for some time to come, this is a nice little boost -- of course ...

Removable battery

Maybe the competition will push apple to have a removable battery in the iPhone. Then I would really appreciate Google.

Good but still lacking

512MB for App Storage seems pretty bad.

Apple really needs to get on Verizon or it will loose a lot of people in the US.

Since apple is locked to crappy AT&T, looks like my next phone will be this one. Definately going to give the iPhone a run for the money. Guess apple shouldn't have had google on there board as it looks kind of similar to the iPhone.

You seriously think AT&T will have exclusivity with iPhone after this June?

Looks like it'll have the same problem as other android phones,
which is app installs are limited by internal storage.

Exactly.

I'm still wondering when people are going to begin understanding how apps are installed on Android.

Spys On Board = Industrial Espionage

Apple should be more careful when letting CEOs of other tech companies sit on their board, make contacts, garner strategy, and undercut you.

Google could do something 'new' like this since this is their first venture into the mobile market (no, ignore Android altogether), they have no reputation to keep hold of.

Yeah, I mean Apple doesn't do anything new to an already defined product. Just look at how long the iPod mini lasted. They just kept selling it for years until the Zune HD was finally released, forcing Apple to finally innovate and release the iPod Touch.

At least that is what some forum posters here seem to think.

Looks great. I can foresee a pincer movement by the Open Handset Alliance that could cause some serious trouble for Apple and the iPhone. It will be fun to watch how this develops.

Um, this just shot OHA in the butt.
You think Motorola is thrilled that undercut the Droid just weeks after its release. Let the infighting begin.

I'd have liked to have seen some EU handset only pricing. I guess I'll have to wait until spring.

When going to Google Checkout it shows total cost as $529, with a link explaining export costs to the UK. So total is £331 + VAT (around £390) + possible duty of 6.5%. Not sure why they state that as possible, I'd have thought it highly likely. It seems that you can just click "buy it now" even for the UK, though I doubt it'll be arriving any day soon...

Unlocked doesn't mean much when it really still only works on T-Mo. Unless you're some masochist who enjoys AT&T's EDGE speeds.

Not even that psyched for the Verizon version, their smartphone plans are terribly priced and the phone becomes even less unlocked thanks to their network setup.

Let's see

Google fails to address app storage issue with Droid and Android 2.0

 And that's from an Android fan site.

Actually T-Mobile uses a different frequency, so most GSM standard phones won't get 3g on T-Mobile.

iPhone 3GsII. Even faster than the 3Gs, 10x more hype. Seriously, the iPhone needs a real makeover, and I don't see Apple willing to give it a chance since if it goes wrong, their reputation will be ruined.

Ummm, your explanation of why wouldn't Apple do a makeover of the iPhone isn't sound - their reputation is mature now. The majority of their best products get makeovers regardless of popularity, see: iPod (how many generations and "editions" now?), iMac (see iPod), PowerBook/MacBook (though not as much).

Good point.

ONE phone. ONE OS. Done well. It's that simple. But if you don't quite have what it takes then the only solution might be to whore out your OS to all takers and hope you can push out enough volume to get decent numbers.

"Superphone"?

LOL. It's a smartphone, in the same category as the iPhone. No, Google didn't create a new category, it created an iPhone clone with a fraction of the apps, an ugly UI, and no multitouch.

It's just OK. Not revolutionary. If your product is "just OK" in the same category as Apple's product, then Apple's next product update will consign your product to oblivion, or nearly that.

That's the rule when competing in the same handheld space as Apple.

I agree. But if Apple keeps their "once a year" product cycle for the iPhone, Google stands a very good chance at closing the gap rapidly.

I'm curious to see how reliable the Verizon network really is once the majority of their customer base is using data hungry phones like the iPhone or the Nexus. I'm not a big AT&T fan, but I do understand that their network is suffering due in part to the majority of their customer base using the iPhone. The iPhone consumes more data than any other phone on the market, and no other network carries the burden having that phone has their biggest seller.

Verizon is an AWESOME service right now BECAUSE it doesn't have iPhone. I'm willing to bet that once the playing field is even, and a ton of people jump off the AT&T network and move to Verizon, you're going to see vast improvements on AT&T's end.

Before I make any switches, I'm gonna wait for the masses to jump ship first. I want to see if the Verizon network gets bogged down in a similar fashion. I'd love to see everyone migrate to Verizon because of how bad AT&T has been lately, and in turn free up the AT&T network completely. Everyone to Verizon!
