Well I love my Droid and won't be upgrading to this just yet... but a great device for those who enjoy Android (and Verizon's awesome service)!

Just another smartphone. Moving on.

Better yet, just another POS, this time by Google. The iPhone will continue to rule the market, since this crappy thing brings absolutely NOTHING new or revolutionary to the table...only people used to inferior products tied to Verizon contracts need it.

Apple Tablet and iPhone 4.0, here I go...

Apple should be more careful when letting CEOs of other tech companies sit on their board, make contacts, garner strategy, and undercut you.

Undercut? According to my math, the Nexus is more expensive than a similarly equipped iPhone, either with or without a contract. Don't forget to add the cost of an SD card to get to comparable storage amounts.

Andriod Promotion

Near the end of the conference Motorola showed up, the Q&A made this media event a bit of a shambles for me. Basically Google's still got a nice Mobile OS and any phone manufacturer that wants it will get it (i.e. Windows/PC or Linux/PC relationship).

The quicker a phone manufacturer can build a better phone and the carriers sell them the more Googly you get. I am indifferent about HTC products wait a couple days and someone is likely to have a better quality device (see end of CES).

Based on the positioning by Google and HTC/Motorola in the Q&A, the real loser is likely Microsoft. With so many wanting a cool Android, iPhone, or Blackberry. I just see them losing more and more market share. As long as we can plug back into our corporate email systems Microsoft isn't going to be too compelling.

The new 3D user interface is pretty nice. And it has voice input throughout the whole phone and not just for some specific application which even seems to work very nicely. Dictating emails and sms will be lots of fun. Not to mention that it is only half the price of an iPhone 3GS 32GB. Seems really to be not just a smart- but a Superphone! :)

Won't be much cheaper when you add in the cost of a 32gb SD card.

512MB flash and a 4GB MicroSD? So everyone who buys this thing needs to spend money on extra storage? Looks like Sandisk, etc doesn't even make a 32GB MicroSD yet and a 16GB is $74.99 from JR.com. Meaning the NexusOne is about $600 with no contract or $255 for a "16GB device" with a 2yr contract, where as the comparative iPhone 3GS is $500 and $200 respectively. I understand it has some cool new hardware components but some people now complain about how expensive an iPhone can be...

1. Tmobile non-long-term contract voice/data plans cost less. So your lifecycle costs can be lower if buy unlocked and stop paying subsidy fees over time. Your total lifecylce cost is the one that matters.

2. Being able to upgrade always comes with additional costs. For those that don't need 16GB it is cheaper. Apple forces you to last years tech if want to go lower in memory size. If go 4GB now and buy 16GB card next year the price will be even lower. A year after that lower still.

Ok, so now I may be switching to Verizon depending on how well this handles multimedia. I mean I do use my iPhone as more than just a phone. Oh and I guess I have to see what there will be in terms of an app store kind of thing. Oh and how well priced the phone/data/text plans are on Verizon. And oh course I have to wait a little bit of time to see how well the network handles all the Nexus One traffic if it's even comparable to iPhones on AT&T.

Hhhmmmm....geez..it's sounding more and more like I'm not switching. Haha. Hey, but it looks good though. I'm totally down with jumping though if it fits my needs better than the iPhone does. I don't need just as well because why would I switch then. My 3GS runs just fine where I am.

Even though i would say this is just a fanboy being a fanboy, you are right. This is just another phone, nothing special. It won't take the iphone down from where it is now just like driod, pre, and storm didn't.

Technically it sounds really good, however, it looks really bad and so does the OS design! I mean, that's just my taste, but the way stuff looks and feels really matters to me!

I'm loving it

GSM phone, and coming to Verizon, Gee maybe VZW is really ready for Sim Cards and GSM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which also means that theres a good chance that iPhone 4 this summer will be on the VZW network:D

Looking good, wonder how many of these are going to appear on eBay this week.

Hey AT&T are you reading and watching, your dominance in this type of device is coming to an end, although you mite have something up your sleeve, but I for one highly doubt it, save the money and beef up your 3G network

It's alright

Aside from the 5MP camera with Flash (which is AWESOME), this isn't really that impressive. So Google has almost caught up to last year's iPhone 3Gs (in terms of capability). I want Apple to do a deal with Visa, Mastercard, and Paypal to let me pay stores (or friends, business associates) with my phone. And stick in a 5MP camera (with Flash) of their own... Now THAT is a phone.

Also, as was stated in the launch event:

Q: Why 512MB for app storage only?
A: They store apps in the internal ROM and not on the SD card now, for piracy reasons, but they will offer an upgrade soon for installing apps on the SD card.

So it would appear that apps will be able to be stored on removable storage soon enough, making the inbuilt storage limitation a thing of the past.

Except that if it's a large app with data, not all of the data is stored in the primary memory.

Also, from another thread (and this one too):

That's not how it works now.

Any company can claim: In the future, we promise that your phone will make you coffee. We promise it'll be "soon."

Truth is, there is no due date, so it could be 30 years from now.

Time for the iPhone to play catch up!

Apple is behind the curve now.

Behind the curve on what? We've learned over the years it isn't all about specs... it's about how they use the specs to make the product a joy to use. The iPhone 3Gs is super fast, easy, and gorgeous.

The google hardware is still fugly... and I also think the interface is not good looking at all... way too many things going on the top bar makes it look cluttered like a windows taskbar. :)

The iPhone is still the sexiest handset out there, hands-down.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc. but I really don't care for the industrial design of the Nexus One, less so the Droid (Someone on Gizmodo perfectly called it Tim Burton's 89 Batman phone). But the iPhone just looks pretty dated and clunky at this stage, mainly due to the ratio of screen to overall size. I'm hoping for a radical update in June.

Oh I don't know, maybe the other two issues I mentioned?

Liiiiiiiike.. piss-poor internal memory and an inelegant UI?

Did you read what he posted? internal memory will no longer be an issue soon. SD cards can be purchased that go up to 32GB. And please define your criteria for an "elegant UI". I wasn't aware we had so many UI design experts here.

And no apps?

That's funny; it appears as though I have a lot of apps on my Droid.

And developers not wanting to develop apps, because they can't make money?

It's just the beginning, and Apple does have an enormous lead. That is a disadvantage. But it is not due to people being unwilling to buy apps on Android. I've already purchased some myself.

I'm sure I can think of more.

Please do, but try to come up with something more than opinion based on what you read on the internet. Have you actually used an Android phone for more than 5 minutes in a store?

That's not how it works now.

When installing an app that contains data that can be stored on the SD card, the app prompts upon installation, resulting in very little stored on primary memory. Consquently, I have a lot of apps already, and yet haven't used an 1/8" of my primary memory.

Hate people who think soon is an ok answer

Apple will be releasing iPhone OS 4.0 and a tablet that (might) dominate the education industry, by the end of this month. We'll see how much leverage android has then.

See this post here

It isn't going to be an isue soon. What's the next complaint going to be? :p

Soon in when?

That a 32GB SD card is $80-100+. I never thought storage would be an issue but I find myself watching video on my iPhone more and more.

I do think this is a good device, but it has some pretty big holes in it. Its main feature seems to be it availability on Verizon.

Windows Ultimate Extras.

Wow I just noticed it has a trackball not unlike the old mighty mouse. Good luck with that one Google.

Just because Apple managed to screw up a trackball doesn't mean that everyone else has problems with them.

woaw 1Ghz in a mobile phone. That sounds really cool.

1Ghz CPU
5mp camera, HD video
384000px screen
3G - BlueTooth + EDR - WiFi 802.11N (!)
119mm thick

That sounds like a really good phone.

I wonder what apple has made.
