I won't be downloading it. The maps app does what I need it to do. I have not had one problem with it yet. I think a lot of people are saying there is problems with it because other people say there is. I'm aware that its not perfect yet, but it does what I need it for.

What the?!? Haha I guess you haven't seen the pictures and all the media attention it got because ITS TERRIBLE!

I had nothing but problems with the old Google Maps. This had better be a HUGE improvement for it to be worth using.

If it's not on par with the Android app - still no turn-by-turn directions, for instance - Google will have blown this golden opportunity.

Given the way they've kept their Gmail iOS app comparatively crippled, though, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.

One feature it will certainly have is sync'ing from the web. So favorites and recent searches will sync to the new Google Maps app. This is something Apple doesn't and can't have since they have no web versions of Google Maps. I often will search on my computer for places. Having it sync to my phone will be a great addition.

And clearly it will have turn by turn. They aren't going to provide less features than the current Apple Maps.

Goes to show how badly Apple screwed up their maps - when even the most passionate of Apple fans are excited for a Google app on their iPhone!

I wouldn't read too much into that. There are a plenty of forum trolls masquerading as disgruntled Apple fans from their Samsung phablets.

Can't wait for it to be ready. Apple maps will never be as good as Google Maps. They don't even have a web version which I can use on other computers which sync with every other device.

Seems legit, since it's blurry and all!

I'm glad Google is actively doing this. After all, we get the best of it, since we'll be able to choose between Google and Apple maps. So Apple can develop their maps without the pressure of having to get something together ASAP otherwise people won't find their way…

PS: I still think Street View is extremely important, as it is from a street perspective, like you would see it when you actually go there. While Flyover is great to better get a "seamless" feel of where and how everything is, I think Street View is more practical when pinpointing an address. Flyover is great to get an overview of a larger area, though.

Can apple still reject this? Or can google bring on the justice dept if that happens

Why would Apple reject it? Why would Apple WANT a bad product? On the other hand, look what they have done.

This whole map thing seems like a movie written by someone who wanted to scare Steve Jobs to death.

Uhh, I feel like this guy is just trying to get advertising for his own map app. The weirdly taken pictures and the blatant advertising on his own post stick out to me too much. Anyone could have made a screenshot in photoshop (it looks like Maps on Android), loaded it on their iPhone and taken ultra close-up shots of it and posted it to their blog. Is there a reason we should trust this guy?

And check this out: why would he block out the battery percentage in one shot but not the other? I'll tell you: to make it seem "more legit". Also, the map is in the same placement in all the pictures, an indicator (but not proof) that this is just one screenshot he made himself. This guy just wants more hits for his own app.

Hurry up Google so I can finally update my 4S to iOS 6. I'm so happy that there is finally proof that it will even be an app after all.
Thought I would stick with 5.1.1 forever.

Edit : so it isn't 100% legit. Eh

I don't have a problem with Apple Maps. The directions have never been wrong for me and I know where all the subway stops are in city. It seems like a lot of people are complaining about the satellite view which I never use.

I think people are forgetting that Google Maps won't be nearly as useful because it won't be the default map app. Short of needing public transit directions I can't imagine copying and pasting addresses instead of just tapping it.

This just shows that Apple did the right thing.

If they had stuck with the old, outdated Maps app, iOS users would still be stuck without turn-by-turn and vector graphics.

Now we will be spoiled for choice. Apple Maps will continue to get better, and if for some reason it continues to bother you, there's going to be choice. There are benefits to having so many choices for apps...it's still Apple's greatest advantage.

Agree, it is still about the consumer and we need these companies to work harder for their money, thus giving us choice!

Maybe - but I count myself as one of these people (the Apple fans - not the Samsung trolls) - the maps in the UK are TERRIBLE and just makes me annoyed how badly Apple have messed this one up! Maybe a lot of the US folk on here can't see how bad they are - but where I live - big roads are marked as small roads, small roads as big roads, random parks, a few incorrect road names, out of date business info, missing vital location info (e.g football stadia) etc etc and this is all within a 5 square mile radius!

I'd love for Apple to get their act together on this - but the sheer scale of the task they have ahead of them makes me scared on their behalf!

I LOVE Apple Maps. I use it daily and haven't had a single problem. And what I love is that when bloggers write stories about Apple's 'horrible' maps, they never seem to give examples. It's become a meme by the anti-apple zealot sheep and the blogger/MSM follow.

I also find it funny that Apple created the original maps program in 2 weeks, yet Google has had 6 months and still nothing. Which tells me either they are holding out to hurt apple or they had to go back to the drawing board after see in Apple maps.

If it doesn't have turn by turn than its not as useful as what I already have.

If it does have Turn by Turn as Apple wanted to begin with, then I would love to hear the explanation as to why now they allow it in iOS.

Chances are, by doing that they new Apple would go in-house. Then come out with a Turn by Turn for iOS to screw Apple.

All is fair in this war. I hope Apple take it's time evaluating the App. 6-8m would be nice. ;)

I just drove 12,642mi cross country (2x) using the iOS6 maps app on the iPad as my only source of directions, and didn't have a single issue. I really expected chaos, but it's been fine. Doubt I'll bother with a second Maps app.

I wouldn't trust Apple's Maps driving that far. I'd have a secondary app system anyway.

You might be fine, but there 6+ billion people outside of USA who will be potential users of a GPS mapping system in their own countries.

they can but Apple would be handing an easy case against them from the justice department. Google voice was boarderline at best for apple delaying it. This time Apple has an even weaker case.
