There is nothing wrong with Apple maps. It is much better than anything that Google can throw together. Apple did exactly the right thing by finally getting rid of Google maps, and they should not allow any Google spyware onto iOS.
You should try to come over in Japan and see what an incredible mess Apple Maps are. At this rate, it'll probably take them a decade before they can approach Google Maps' accuracy.

two months ago I would have jumped at the app without hesitation, but I really don't miss google maps at all (works great in my area).

I guess it is nice for those that will need it.

I guess it has its issues in some area's, I am sure they are getting around to correcting them ASAP.

I've been using Apple Maps for turn-by-turn navigation for the past couple of weeks, since my husband needed our sole GPS in his car for the time being, and it's been great. There was some major road construction near here about a year ago, and my Garmin STILL hasn't updated correctly even though all the maps are supposedly up-to-date, but Apple Maps had the correct info and routed me through the area with no problems. I was impressed. Don't think I'll need to bother with the Google app.

If it's not on par with the Android app - still no turn-by-turn directions, for instance - Google will have blown this golden opportunity.

Given the way they've kept their Gmail iOS app comparatively crippled, though, it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case.

In the long run, I don't think it will matter. As Apple continues to improve its own maps, people won't care about 3rd party maps, including Google's. It's only a matter of time before Apple's maps reaches parity with Google's. The only feature I don't see Apple pursuing is Street View.

Matter of time = ???

Thank god a way out might be appearing for the Apple Maps disaster.

I look forward to jailbreaking and wiping all stain of Apple Maps from my system.

Any Map app that is not integrated via Map Kit will never be as useful as whatever Apple is serving when it comes to 3rd party Apps. For directions, etc - a stand alone app will be fine. Whichever one is used.

Or is it possible that people who love or even like Apple a lot expected more and/or want Apple to succeed so they're voicing their concerns and complaints to get Maps better?

I'm not trying saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with Apple Maps. I've seen the pictures and I understand it has problems. The people who are experiencing these problems have reason to complain. I agree with that. It's just the people who have absolutely no reason to complain but do anyway based off of others problems are the ones that annoy me.

It's like saying everyone on your street has the same model of lawn mower. Your neighbors breaks down and complains about it. But, even though your's is working perfectly fine, you complain to everyone that it's a terrible lawn mower and doesn't work at all. The neighbor has reason to complain, his broke. But you have no reason to.

That's all I'm trying to say.

Very welcome news in Japan as I don't see the US-centric Apple making any improvements in this locality in the foreseeable future.

I asked Siri to take me to my university and she took me to a neighborhood ten minutes away from campus. Apple really should have slapped a "Beta" label on their maps app.

My view of Apple Maps after nearly a month:

1) Turn by turn navigation is great and the routes are mostly accurate;
2) the vector map data is great and it's really fluid during Turn by turn;
3) but POIs suck big times, most of the time I can't find anything by inputting the name of a building / shopping mall - it directs me to a city somewhere in China. But I think this can be improved easier than the Map itself.
4) The maps are too simple with no building shapes etc.
5) The satellite images are surprisingly good - even North Korea is crystal clear!
6) Siri can't find anything now because of all the wrong POIs.

Glad you wrote that, I have iTrans and didn't see that overlay feature. I'll check it out. :)

Still, there is something nice about having entered a new person in addresses; clicked the address; watch the pin drop in Google Maps and quickly see the one or two stops nearest where the pin dropped. There is kind of less mental overhead associated with that.

iTrans should have integration with your contacts, if I'm not mistakin'. The same would hold true.

I wouldn't read too much into that. There are a plenty of forum trolls masquerading as disgruntled Apple fans from their Samsung phablets.

Lol oh theyre samsung spies now! Its apples fault they released a half baked map not samsung

Not sure I care

i too have had no problems with Apples Maps. Turn by turn works great. Much better than the CRIPPLED maps google had been shipping to Apple for years without turn but turn. Its funny how they don't get called out by the press for that

I still think this map hysteria has been driven by a tech press desperate to find a flaw in the top selling tech product of the year. They had all but buried it before any single customer actually had one in their hands.

And while I enjoyed street view, I still find my self using Apples map more because of turn by turn.
