Downloaded 10 minutes ago. I'm in Vancouver.

The funny thing is that when I tried to move the annoying Apple Map icon away from my home screen, the iOS crashed ... VVTF Apple?

I think the App Store is just having too many people downloading a single app at once.

I'm downloading it now in Washington State (Dec 12 at 2114 pacific time)

Any Android users here?

Did Google make the 'swipe into 3D' geature opposite of Apple's just to be bitchy, or has it always worked that way in Andorid?

Apple Maps - Fingers go up
Google iOS Maps - Fingers go down
Google Android Maps - ?

If you can't find the app on your device:

If you're having trouble finding the app on your iPhone (I was), just download it first from iTunes. Then it will show up in your "purchased items" on your devices.

  1. Follow this link to find the app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-maps/id585027354?mt=8
  2. Click "View in iTunes"
  3. Download the app
  4. Open the App Store on your iPhone, and go to "Purchased"
  5. Google Maps will now be the first app showing there. Click to download it.

Got it downloaded through itunes on my computer in CA. Anyone know how to activate street view?

Successful download at 9:10pm, Santa Cruz, CA.

It's iphone only, so on iPad it runs in a window. Fit and finish are pretty messy and ugly compared to Apple, honestly. iOS Maps are much more polished looking, and work much cleaner.

just downloaded at 915 in San Francisco. Pretty nice. like all the features. 1 thing, when I zoom in on the satellite view it looks really bad.

I don't like the interface compared to Maps. It's clunky and laggy on my iPhone 4. The Maps interface is better. Still, the interface is OK, and the app is welcomed. I'll probably still use Apple Maps primarily until I see some problems with it while I'm using it (which I haven't so far).

Soooo much better!

Bye bye Apple Maps!

Apple Maps - INCORRECT

It may be good but the fact that I have to pull over to the side of the road and input an address is a deal killer. i would rather use a flawed Apple Maps product with Siri on the go.

Bingo. At the end of the day, many people will gravitate back to Apple maps because of the deep OS integration.

I know this to be true so I'm not even bothering downloading Google Maps.

Maps is the 'thin wedge'

It's funny, since Apple Maps got me looking at alternate maps, I've now replaced the built-in safari and mail apps with chrome and gmail apps. Instead of helping 'lock-in' more users to their eco-system, Apple maps has helped pry me away from sticking with apple services because they were 'good enough'.

Screw-ups have consequences...

I could be wrong, but it seems to me Apple is allowing downloads outside of the US first. Can anyone confirm this?

edit: nevermind...dling now in Florida.

I guess it has something to do with time zones. People in the east which are way into 13th December got it without any problem. Americas just passed or passing midnight so people may give more patience. ;)

Daly City, CA @ 0922PM

Funny

Installed it on iPad 3

But I can't find it in the App Store on my iPhone 5

The interface is very nice. I particularly like the way you can scroll through search results for places. Also, I searched for a couple of local businesses nearby here that Apple Maps has either showed incorrectly or not at all since release, and the Google app showed them correctly. I think I'll be switching until Apple fixes Apple Maps.
