google is awesome

I love google!

i can't imagine anyone being negative to some great features!

can you guys imagine if we had google voice over siri?!

siri is garbage and doesn't work very well. Google voice is smooth and very responsive.

I don't get how apple doesn't work with google to help make the experience better for us CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

----------

So I will need a google account and I need to sign in? Em no thanks.

because you don't make accounts except for macrumors and mobileme?

Google Now is an example of this type of innovation, the type of knock you off your socks innovation which makes technology more useful.

There's nothing too "innovative" about this or what Apple typically does. Giving Siri some more uses isn't really innovation, but it would be much appreciated. Google basically upgraded Google Maps. That's good.

Yes yes yes! Hopefully, this makes Apple step their game up with Siri.

Same feeling here. And ironically, I don't help Google much or at all since my data is fake and my ads blocked whenever possible. Bring on the free apps and Apple's competition!

Current map programs show me traffic and give me a choice of route. So Google now just speaks up instead of me having to click an icon? That's different. That's not what they pointed out.

Boy, this whole product sailed right over your head. Either that or you're just being pedantic. That is pretty much my response for everything you said.

i'd love to hear your reasoning

im sure you arent one of those apple fans that hate google and wont sign up for their gmail account that is far superior than apple's very own.

I use Google accounts gladly, but the mail account is NOT far superior. Well I guess it's free without buying anything else, but that's it. The iCloud mail lets you use aliases that are totally different from your regular address, and the website for mail viewing is better than Gmail in some ways and worse in others.

Plus, Google accounts can be extremely annoying because of how rabidly interested they are in your account not getting hacked. I've lost various accounts to the security system, zero to hackers. And it asks for your phone number and other stuff all the time. No!

Umm it tells you alternate ways and means of getting there. How about you try it first.

There is traffic everywhere during rush hour. There are no alternate routes

Same with trains. I have 2 express and 2 local trains running where I live on the same tracks. One breaks and blocks the tracks will delay all the other trains. Same with the other lines

There is a huge switch in Brooklyn and if a part of it breaks there are delays along the whole system

That's just for you. In Los Angeles, there are almost always a few routes you can take, and one of them (usually the freeway) can get jammed up without adversely affecting the others. If you take the wrong route, you're gonna have a bad time. This will be very useful for me for the time being.

Point set match. Google is owning Apple on their own platform. Can't wait!

Can't wait for Google to own Apple on their own platform or can't wait for the app? There's a difference ;)

I don't live in NYC but I would assume automatic traffic analysis and routing could help you find a faster route.

That is your mistake, you don't live or work in the city. When there is traffic, there is no way to avoid it. There are no faster routes.

hate to admit it but those google apps look by far bettet than those native apple apps nowadays. u can tell most were made in 2007 and havent seen a ui change since

lets hope theres some cydia tweak coming that makes it a full on siri replacement like it did with chrome

I have no doubt something will pop up soon after and I can't wait for it! :D

Haven't used Android, but if you use voice search via the Google app on iOS, then you know what lighting fast and accurate voice-to-text feels like (i.e., not Siri).

Only problem is any time and hassle saved with Google Now over Siri will be lost by opening another app. As with maps, wish I could set my default "assistant".

You can if you jailbreak your device.

So does UrbanSpoon. I've used it before.

Oh, Google Now speaks up without me asking? That's the difference? They didn't say that so I didn't know.

Sounds exactly the tag like for every sports app in exsitance. How was I supposed to know Google meant it in a different way?

I always thought normal Google searches were "now" so this didn't clue me in that this was somehow different.

This is getting close, but throwing it in at the end doesn't really make up for an entire video's worth of catch-phrases that sound like every current smartphone's features. They really need to highlight the differences.

You are perfect for iOS. Stay in your box.

I have no plans to buy an Android phone as long as Apple allows these types of things on iOS. Google Now for iOS looks really cool. Apple sucks at services. They always have. As long as they keep making great hardware and OSes and allow us to put apps we want on them like this, it's great. I'm happy.

I don't see why Apple thinks it needs to supply services. Better to team up with the services that work well and give the best experience. I can't think of one that Apple has ever done that has been superior to another out there.

iTunes is NOT a service, it is a store. iTunes Cloud is a service. Ping was a service. iTools with iDisk was service. I rest my case. Other companies "get" the cloud. Apple doesn't. I see no reason to believe they will change. It's not in their DNA. Hardware and software are. They should keep doing those extremely well.

The concept alone IS the point.

It's Google. The folks who sent cars to every neighborhood on the planet just to make maps work better.

I saw several and all I cared about is they photographed me and my car against my will and probably had a speed censor so they could bust me!

BTW finance.google.com omitted all features for not logged in users. I have a login but used it in not logged in mode 100% of the time for personal reasons. Un-cripple it Google.

Rocketman

I really like Google Now for my G-Nexus, so if I could use it on my iPhone that would be pretty nice. That work thing they mentioned is pretty cool when there's an accident you didn't know about beforehand, I've also been saved by the plane info portion as well.

The only thing was, it was all integrated into Android where as this was a whole separate app, I guess still better than nothing.

I use that NowNow/Google Voice tweak and I don't miss Siri...
