Well I have a Pixel 8 and ready to upgrade so I just pre-ordered the Pixel 10. Was going to get a P 10 Pro but all the phones screens are 6.3" that I read and I never get the highest model, and I get the features of the other two minus the top Actua screen which I don't care about. Sure I get 20x zoom instead of 100 I think but,...you know, whatever. All specs on this are better than my P8 so I'm good.

Got a 256gb this time. Only $100 store credit but that gets me a case and one of the chargers...wireless pad or 45w brick , and I little left to make something else cheaper lol.
With the $350 trade it will be $624 total in the end.

Best of all, I get my Lemongrass color back! Loved that on my Pixel 7.

As for the charging cycles, here is what Gemini says:

No, Google does not limit the Pixel 10 to 200 charge cycles, but it implements a Battery Health Assistance feature that starts adjusting battery capacity at 200 cycles and continues until 1000 cycles, gradually reducing the maximum charge voltage to prolong the battery's overall lifespan. While the battery will still age naturally, this software feature slows down the aging process by reducing the battery's maximum capacity beyond the initial 200 cycles, leading to potentially smaller decreases in runtime.

I guess I would look at it like this.

If you are a person who keeps their phone for 3 years or more then it may be a good idea to skip the Pixel 10 series.

BUT....if you are like most people on this forum buying a new phone every year this really shouldn't affect you much. You would have about 6 months of lowered battery capacity and then you get rid of in trade or sale.
Even if you keep the phone for 1 year max it will still destroy any resale value. Assuming nothing changes and Google doesn't address it I'd anticipate you can get a used P10XL for cheap some months from now.

Reading about charge cycles, I don't think this is going to be that big a deal. I have never run my phone down to 0%.....rarely down to 10% so here is a sample of a charge cycle

Going from 100% down to 30% and then charging back to 100% does not count as one full charge cycle. A charge cycle is completed when the cumulative total of energy used and replaced reaches 100% of the battery's original capacity. In your scenario, you only used and replaced 70% of the battery's capacity (from 100% to 30% is 70%), so it is only part of a charge cycle.

I always trade mine in so don't matter to me. I usually get a new one every 2 - 2.5 years.
It's a easy process and so what is i can get $50 more for it by going on Swappa. I'm making that up with store credit.

So probably no surprises here but I think I'll take a pass on this offering. Actually been thinking of just getting out of #teampixel all together.

I'm sure the hardware eh kinda is there I really don't like the fact that it's now pretty much an AI box masquerading as a phone following the Microsoft saas model. Thinking it might be a matter of time before unlocking bootloader's and root might be out the window (heard some of the code Google used to open source for these newer devices are not being released). But the constant AI this and that really makes me uneasy about the 10...

Maybe pick up a fold 9 instead, find a non Google ROM and just coast on it for the duration? Not sure.

But my 8pro though it has so me quirks with messenger, still works and I'm trying to disable Gemini on it as much as I can.

Same, i've purchased 8 Pixels in the last 6 years and two have had no issues. The rest either had performance or some sort of malfunction. I should have learned from the Pixel 6 coral. That one had a funky screen where black blocks would appear on the screen and that was a brand new phone directly from Google. Fortunately they sent me a brand new unit. Later on the SIM tray on that replacement Pixel 6 died so I had to send it in under warranty.

I'm seriously considering the OnePlus 13r. What's holding me back is the thought its successor will launch early 2026.

OnePlus 15 that's where it's at next year

I'm joking, but when Google went to TSMC to manufacture the chipsets for the Pixel 10 line, Google's probably like yeah finally we're going to be on par with the other flagships. But shh keep this secret we're on a tighter budget.

TSMC then probably thought, oh it's just Google, we won't give them our good stuff like we do for other manufacturers and they'll be fine with it.

Google says, high five ✋

LOL

The thing with Google is they always have one foot out the door just in case. They even do that with their core apps. They'll cancel stuff on a whim. Their Tablet business was much the same. The hardware was average and they thought that adding a Dock would sell 10's of millions. Nope, now they have put the whole Tablet business on hold.

So back to the Pixel phones. They treat their phones much in the same way. Their phones are always designed to be good enough but never great as they are known to cut corners. Meanwhile the OnePlus 13r with the SD8 Gen 3 outperforms their best Pixels 9 series and they give you 256GB of storage all for $599 which are now on sale for $499.

Well I'm back on the fence. I don't think the battery thing is enough to dissuade me, but I'm wondering if there's enough else to tempt me. Is magsafe worth £650ish cost after trade in? It will save me £217 on Gemini pro though (used mainly to debug and teach python things that my uni course falls short on).

Also anyone looking at the pixel snap stand, the belkin looks a better buy (they just released a 25w qi2.2 charger, it will also charge earbuds etc and has a 5w usb c pot)

Got a link of the Belkin charger? I can't seem to find it and not sure which one you mean.
I'm on the fence for the Pixel snap back charger as it's only 15 watts for the P10 & P 10 Pro.

Does Google ship pre orders early ? I've never pre ordered from Google before. Only samsung and they usually ship a few days early.

Posted this over in the watch thread but figured Pixel buyers are the likely target market:

A little purchase hack for anyone in the US planning on purchasing a Pixel Watch 4. Right now, Google is giving $350 trade-in credit for any Apple Watch series 10. AW10 can be purchased on Amazon for as low as $299 (and even less via Swappa or eBay) so that’s an easy extra $50 off (or more). I’ll bet the trade in value will drop once Apple releases whatever new watches are coming next month (for comparison, Apple Watch 9 trade-in value is $125, Apple Watch Ultra 2 only $175) making the series 10 the old generation so I’d at least get your preorder in now to lock in the trade-in price.

So my willpower disappeared, as usual, and I placed another preorder for the 10PF. 😂 Let’s see how many more times I waffle and change my mind over the next month.

I’m quickly accumulating a bunch of Google credit though and not sure what I’ll be able to spend it on ($350 for P10PF and another $183 as Google One subscriber that get’s me 10% back). I want to try out the Watch 4 but after using the aforementioned trade-in, not much left to pay. If I wait to order the watch after receiving my P10PF, trade-in value probably going to drop significantly. Already have Pixel Buds Pro 2 and don’t want any of their smart home stuff because I still prefer it to be compatible with Apple’s HomeKit.

Hmmm…decisions, decisions.

I'd call it "Overview"
Fair enough, lol. I understand a lot of these people rely on YouTube for income so they have to keep pushing content so on one hand I get it. I'm off work for a little while so I'm watching a large amount of YouTube so I'm seeing more of this than I would normally see.
But I can't wait to see actual in depth reviews on the 10 series.

Ordered mine yesterday, today is the 23rd and it says delivery on the 28th or 29th. I'll know for sure when it ships which should be by Monday id think.
But I'm in NV and I believe it's coming from CA so shouldn't take that long. Probably takes longer to ship my trade in, get there and get refunded lol.

I'm getting a lot of "initial reviews" in my YouTube feed and maybe I've been watching too much phone stuff but these people aren't really reviewing a phone they've only had in hand for a few minutes at an event. I like seeing the phones but without extensive time with the device it's not really a review. Rant over.
Yeah lots of people are terrible at reviews, it's just for clicks and ask to subscribe
