Pixels are very good phones but at this point, most people are locked into their preferred phone platform. There has to be a major feature to draw people away and nothing on a Pixel is going to do that, right now. The camera’s aren’t noticeably better and in some ways inferior (video), performance and battery aren’t as good, and they don’t have the same ecosystem pull that one get if they have more Apple devices and services. Gemini is certainly better in most ways (still struggles with simple assistant type commands in my experiences) but again, most people aren’t using the AI functionality where it excels.I watched this video about the Pixel being the biggest threat to the iPhone. What do you guys think? I'm somewhat skeptical since the Pixel has a significantly smaller market share than Samsung not to mention Apple.
And regarding price, their standard and Pro phones are prices exactly like iPhones (discounted promotions withstanding). The standard iPhone is actually prices better than the Pixel 10 as it has double the storage for the same price.
We’re on our 10th generation of Pixels and each years it’s just a bit more of the same from Google. Yes, their market share has ticked up ever so slightly but I’d wager that’s been taken from other Android makers than from Apple (edit: quick search showed that's exactly what's happening). There has to be a quantum shift to tear people away from their iPhones and I don’t see that out of Google anytime soon. And I really like Pixel phones..the last non Nexus/Pixel phone I bought was a HTC One M7. They're just no threat to Apple as they are currently running the business.
Edit: So I admittedly only briefly watched the beginning before my last comment and after watching the video, his points are mostly nonsense. His arguments live entirely in the tech enthusiast bubble. There is no ground swell shifting people because of Google's software experience.
Does Google have an advantage is the AI race, yes, clearly. But Gemini is still a long ways from being a regular tool for users (far more use ChatGPT and do it from whatever device they use) and it's barely noticeable on my Pixel 10 Pro Fold unless I seek it out to use. Magic Cue sadly has been pretty invisible in my day to day. Most people just don't care about the AI integration with the phone and Apple supposedly having one of their best holiday quarters in years for iPhone sales, in spite of how terrible Siri is, kind of speaks to most people's desire for AI.
In fact, at least worldwide, I'd say the Chinese OEMs are a much bigger threat to the iPhone. Some of the hardware they make is remarkable.
