Oh well. My Pixel 2XL is actually a great design. I really like it.
If this is the Pixel 3, then I guess I'm not in their target market. It's a shame because their camera is amazing and the reason I bought into the pixel phones anyway.
Are sSamsung really the best phones *without a notch? Seems a bit extreme...

I can't believe these fools copied the notch. It's like when they copied the antenna bands. It's arguably the worst design feature of the iPhones, and they still couldn't resist copying it.

This is hilarious. If you’re gonna copy Apple, at least do it right.
Also, if you’re gonna make fun of Apple, don’t copy them the year after.
Google is a mess.

At least Apple put some really revolutionary technology into that notch - for implementing the first generation of Face ID, I guess the notch was simply unavoidable. After almost 8 months using the iPhone X, I can confirm that Face ID is amazing, and the notch simply disappears. Having said that, it's still bad design in my view, but as noted earlier, unavoidable given their technical goals for the iPhone X.

On the Pixel 3 XL, that notch looks uglier, and is completely unacceptable given the bottom chin. I highly doubt this is a design trade off to accommodate something similar to Face ID - it's more likely some stupid camera gimmick which nobody will care about. Well played Google, you've lost a Pixel loyalist for good.

Notch and double dongle. What is an Android fan going to do?

Samsung is really going to regret all of their ads.

LOL ...

HAHAHAHA Android winers how does it taste?!

Samsung's pride cannot allow it to become second-rate in the Notch Wars…. it must win the Notch Wars!

I do have to chuckle at some of these posts on here! Just shows how out of touch it comes to tech some members are!

1) This is the Google Pixel - A phone released by Google running Android. So why people are mentioning Samsung is beyond me!

2) Similar to point number 1. This is the Google Pixel. A phone released by Google running Android. Android does not have the notch, the phone does. The notch is hideous on all phones that have it. Luckily I have a Samsung which does not have the notch, however there are also plenty of other choices.

The missus just got the Huawei P20 Pro. Wait for this people, it will blow your minds! You can turn it off and have a normal looking phone! Maybe someone can advise me whether you can do this on the iPhone 10?

[doublepost=1533810079][/doublepost]As for all this "Copying Apple" rubbish - You do realise that the Essential phone was the first phone to have a notch and was released on the 30th May 2017 - Over 5 months before the iPhone 10.

Also the Sharp Aquos S2 released in August 2017, 3 months before the iPhone 10 also had a notch.

But lets not let facts get in the way!

Like this image of the pixel. Huge chin and notch? Trying too hard to copy and doing it poorly.

I agree and just don't see a point. If the notch does exist due to technology/production limitation to add the cameras/sensors under display that is almost bezel less everywhere then I am OK with it. But having a thick chin, and 2 cuts on the forehead just makes no sense I think. May as well keep them both.

I’m not that sophisticated about the technology but always figured the sensors required a certain amount of “real estate” due to technology and or cost factors. I’m shocked that instead of having the notch be wider they would choose to have it go further down. It looks like a tongue or something! I’m not a Google fan but I am surprised they would make it that unappealing. Curious if anyone knows if the technology isn’t there to reduce the size of Apple’s notch as well as others, or is the cost of technology too much to do so?

Yes, Android does have a notch too (or at least an option to add one, see the image below) and that is the latest OS Pie.
And looking hedios thing is subjective. I wold argue that Samsungs thick chin/forehead on their Galaxy phones is not acceptable on 2018. But that's just me. Luckily I have iPhone X which does not have thick chin and thick forehead (yes, it does have a notch, not ideal but better for me)
By the way, some notch design look far worse then some others to me. An example is this Pixel phone. Got to be the worst design. Some others have very small notch and look better, but obviously they don't have an arsenal of cameras/sensors like iPhone X does. And why on earth they have thick chin is beyond me.
And yes, I think they do copy Apple and I also think you know that very well. No one gives a damn what any smaller tech company does with their design. Once Apple does it, they do follow (including Samy on many cases). This is a pure fact.

I threw up a little in my mouth.

Not keen on the iPhone X notch but at least they've managed to make it relatively subtle and relatively appealing visually. This is just a big chunky thing that somehow manages to be as ugly as possible with no real reason to exist.. it has a touch sensor so it's not like it's necessary for Face ID gubbins, and then there's that massive chin....

Just a case of "having a notch for the sake of having a notch because Apple did it therefore it must be profitable" (yes I know the Essential Phone did it first - but the other Android manufacturers would've ignored it if not for Apple doing it). Fair enough if it's a fashion thing but at least make it slightly attractive if so!

Still, if I was going Android now I'd probably pick a Nokia 7 Plus or the newer 8. Fingerprint sensor, no silly notch, still small bezels, and part of Android One so they'll also get the software updates.

Nope, it's the phone that has the notch.
Just because it's factored into the software, doesn't mean everyones going to wake up with a magically appeared notch on their phone!

So what you're saying is that they copied something Apple coppied. Got you!

Perhaps more importantly, it looks like nobody, except Apple, so far managed to get rid of the bottom chin.
All notched Android phones still retain a bottom chin (however small).

WTF is that? ugly!! But wait!! Weren't the android fanboys making fun of apples notch? lol go figure, Samsun is next.

AndroidOS device manufacturers have had a notch long before Apple. One could say that Apple is the one copying. This industry can only innovate a rounded corners rectangle made of glass/alloy/metal/plastic handheld device.

My OCD for symmetry has a distaste for this upcoming device. You have stereo forward facing speakers (excellent), now one side is narrower (top) compared to the bottom. Why not just place all the sensors in the chin and forget the notch, similar to Xiamoi MiiMix (1,2) which is a beautifully designed phone. If the MiiMix 3 has the notch at the bottom with no chin or forehead it would trump the face of any AndroidOS/iOS design to date.

Nope, it's the phone that has the notch.

And on the Android case is the software that incoperates the notch. Which is even worse and completey stupid if you ask me. You don't have to tweak the software for it to have a notch. What difference would that make?

No, you didn't get me. Try harder!
What I am saying is Apple does set a trend that the rest does follow! It has been, it is and it will be for at least few years. I guess you don't like it but it is OK and also a fact. There is a reason why Apple did the notch and I would not say they copied. But would you care to explain to me, why do you think Pixel 3 does have a notch? If Apple made an ugly notch for no reason while keeping thick bezels then you would be right. But if a company makes the phone that when it comes to bezels in not much different from the other versions but now it have a notch because you know...... we have to follow the trend Apple sets, then I would say this is following a trend.
That being said, Apple have also followed the others with the large display trend. So to give others some credit, Apple is not always a trend setter.

Look at the essential phone that you say Apple have copied. It is hard not to notice the thick chin!

It's really not that difficult to comprehend. Two phones had the awful notch before Apple inplemented said awful notch. I don't really care who does what first. Apple copies Android, Android copies Apple - We all win.

Samsung will eventually be the only smartphone maker without it, pressuring them into doing it.

Android does have a notch. Google added support to Android for notches and rearranging status bars, as well as a similar looking home indicator with swipe multitasking interface that the iPhone X uses. Look it up Mr. I Know Everything About Android, lol.

Notch has nothing to do with Face ID. They just happened to be introduced at the same time (on iPhone). If anything, notch makes more sense on the phones without Face ID (like Essential) because in this case it reclaims a bigger area of the phone front side.

As previously stated, It's the phone that has the notch. The software just caters for it. Users with a Pixel 2 and Android Pie aren't magically going to have a notch appear once they have downloaded the lastest version. ;)

Notch without FaceID and with chin doesn't make sense. I guess this is like 64bit and TouchID saga to ridicule first and then catch up to include the tech, at this rate it will take them >2 years to implement FaceID like feature, I guess AI feeding the advertising machine isn't helping Google to catch up?

Said thing is you didn’t read and took my post out of context in your post.

I mentioned android whiners, not Android as a whole, nor a specific brand. We kept hearing on this Baird’s about the Notch and how Samsung didn’t have it. Then one after so many others, Android manufacturers copied the iPhone X design as evidenced. My post was to ask said Android whiners how does this designed by google flagship phone taste in terms of yet again copying the same design. Again the Android whiners against the Notch. Not google. Not Android the platform.
