They're both ridiculous.

So Apple creates a successful marketplace and, because of their success, they should be punished? How do you think all those free iOS updates are paid for? By hardware sales alone? By agreeing to Apple's Appstore terms, the developer is agreeing to release 30% of their sale to Apple in exchange for a stable platform that improves over time. Someone had to build the API that makes putting Fortnite on iOS even possible. Or would you, the customer, rather pay for iOS updates and security patches? We've seen how low-margin Android phones fare--they get no updates after a year or two. In the end, the customers always pay, so disrupting the market just means you will pay in new and unknown ways in the future. There is no free lunch here, and the blockbuster apps do more of the paying that the little guy developer does.Apple needs to change it’s greedy AppStore policies. They’ve collected more than they will ever be able to spend.
Don't mistake 30% as benevolence either. It is even more pure greed.
Yet epic charging $20 for some dumb electronic dance move is being saintly? Don’t make me laugh...

not is okay but at leeast like android give other option for distribution. Apple nada, must only their platform .I get it the developers think 30% is too high. Perhaps Apple and Google need to come up with a sliding scale based on either total downloads or revenue the app makes. Would this satisfy the developers? Apple and Google still get paid all the work they do on the platform.
I'm watching my daughter play Fortnite on her PS4, and Epic is touting all over the content store that they are fighting against the evil Apple abuse on the App Store. They are really trying to rally kids against Apple. A demographic that has neither acquisition nor decision power in a household. By the way, I asked for her opinion and she couldn't care less. Go Epic!
As much as I dislike Fortnite, this is not a thing.Fortnite must be trending down and needs to make the news
They really struck some chords.Looks like #3 has pulled fortnight.

I wonder how many more places Fortnite can get removed from before we start seeing key Epic employees getting removed from their offices?Looks like #3 has pulled fortnight.

Because it was obviously planned from the get-go.I love how quick Epic had a video and 2 lawsuits ready to show off.
But kids will make decisions at some point... molding young minds for brand loyalty (or hatred) is most definitely a thing. Isn't it the same reason Apple focused on education and kids using Apple computers and Macs? I was one of them, 30 years ago.
We can only hope all kids will be as free-thinking... but I doubt it.Yep, and the good news: she doesn't care about this type of "company branding" matters, so I'm glad she is not like us! 🤣
So, people defending Apple...
What if tomorrow there is an update on your mac and the only way to install stuff is via the Apple Store and the only browser you can use is Safari and no xCloud for you yadayada...
Apple created the mac and macOS so that sounds OK after all ? Why wouldn't it take its 30% cut there too ?
Thanks ****ing computing history for having invented general purpose desktop computers before mobile devices and their locked down model.
I hope Apple and Google win this. Companies should be allowed to design and price their products and services however they’d like. Whether consumers choose to buy those products (and use those services) is their (consumer’s) decision; and if they don’t like Apple’s way of doing things, they can vote with their wallets.
If Apple and Google lose this, than I want devs to be forced to distribute their apps to all platforms (especially Linux), as limiting available platforms is at least as restrictive as limiting available payment methods.
(I know that would put many devs out of business, but that’s what happens when governments interfere with free trade)
Making changes like that after selling a product is a far cry from designing something a certain way in the first place and letting the customer decideSo, people defending Apple...
