While I agree there's way too much hyperbole in these discussions (which I blame on the current high unemployment rate - people troll forums cuz they have nothing better to do), "don't understand" is not the same as "disagree with me".

The Flash issue has become way too hype-driven since Jobs' "Notes on Flash". A lot of people have been expressing concern about Flash's stability and/or security for the past several years. Jobs wasn't really expressing any new or groundbreaking opinions, he just raised the profile of the discussion considerably. Of course he has an agenda, most people realize that - and frankly he's late to the party.

Oh god please don't start another flash debate. it really is simply a case of the majority of people not knowing what they're talking about.

sure

could they just get it to allow my mac to sleep? I have to close chrome now so my system will register inactivity. Thanks for those damn automatic updates...new bugs delivered right to your home folder!!!

I've never had that issue, I regularly leave Chrome open and let my MacBook sleep with no problems.

You couldn't get me to go anywhere near Facebook. Or Twitter. Or Latestsocialnetworkmonster. All garbage.

Besides the fact they are a complete waste of time and energy, you're just begging for ID theft.

Please enlighten me on, how its a fact that they are waste of time and energy and why posting on macrumors isn't? cause i'll bet facebook will do more for your social life than macrumors anyday...

Why would you stick with one of the worst browsers around?

I'll be using the far superior Firefox and Chrome. Thanks Google. This is one happy Mac user today.

Firefox is slow and takes way too long to load, plus it has a very ugly interface. An ok second browsers for when you need one. Add extensions and it really states feeling bloated and slow.

Chrome seems pointless, webkit like safari so no good as a second browser. What am I supposed to like about it, that address bar instead of the convenient address and search bars. Extensions? Well as I said they = bloat! Oh and it can be made to look ugly too: http://www.devdaily.com/sites/default/files/users/user3/google-chrome-os-x-home.jpg

Safari just works, it's fast, stable and does what you want. Top sites looks wicked and works really well, and I'm a big fan of the carosel bookmarks and history too! :p

I installed Chrome and did enjoy the speed, and installed some extensions, but ended up uninstalling it. I guess I am content enough with Safari. If it was a huge difference between the two, I'd have kept Chrome, but Safari was fine I think for most normal users.

I mostly use Safari, but I do find it to be slow and hanging sometimes when loading certain sites. It'll load 90%-95% of the page, but seems to hang on the last little bit sometimes, and I find that annoying.

Competition is good, and I have Opera and Firefox in my dock, so I might as well download Chrome and have that too!

If you don't want people to respond to a silly comment like "90% of the people on this site who hate on Google don't even seem really understand what they're talking about (Same with Flash actually)", then stop making sweeping unsupported generalizations.

I LOVE Safari's Cover Flow feature for the History and that you can view the entire History from the Menu Bar. Much more efficient for finding viewed pages, in my opinion.

Another really cool feature of Safari's Cover Flow history view is the Spotlightish search field where you can type a word (or words) and it filters away pages. Makes it a snap to find a page visited some time ago that one just remember partially what it was about.

This is one of the built-in features of Safari that I miss in other browsers. Maybe there's plug-ins for this in Firefox and Chrome?

You missed the point of my original post; of course I don't mind you or anyone replying to my post - I just didn't see the need for the part of your post that read "The Flash issue has become way too hype-driven since Jobs' Notes on Flash" etc.

Sweeping unsupported generalizations? Read any thread regarding Flash or Google and my point will be proven.

If I understand you correctly, with chrome I just type what I want in the address bar and it gives me the googlesque suggestions as options. When I press enter it will resolve the address or automatically search in google.

No you misunderstood me -- I'm talking about text search within a web page. Instead of cmd-F, in Firefox there is an option to search by simply typing. After getting used to this, there is no way I could go back.

Just downloaded Chrome and (first impression) is it looks ugly and does not feel (recognizable) faster, at least for the websites I use regulary. But that's just me, if it fits your needs...
Safari runs rock solid to me, there wasn't a crash in month. I have no idea what you guys do to your browser.

apparently I've been living under a rock and didn't think Chrome was anything to be taken seriously.... boy was I wrong... I just installed it for the first time the other day and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how much superior it is to all browsers I've been using... Previously on MAC was Safari... I'm sorry but extensions in Chrome make it absolutely AMAZING.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME on the Mac. Wish someone would have clued me in before. ;)

Each time I open a PDF it opens in Acrobat after downloading a copy to my mac.

I don’t want this to happen. I want the PDF to open in Chrome. I have installed the PDF viewer but Acrobat still opens.

Is there a fix?

Does Safari have a full screen option? That's a great feature Chrome has. May not appeal to most but it's great for me. Can't find anything in Safari that does this though.

Chrome is just a bit sluggish on my MBP. Not sure what the deal is, when I scroll my bookmarks it lags a bit and some sites take longer to load than in Safari. Definitely a nice browser though, I'll keep it installed.

I'm guessing Safari 5 pushed live for Mac and Windows in just under 2 weeks after the WWDC keynote.

Given this will likely support Webkit 2 features, such as the split process model an updated Nitro engine etc.

I'm most looking forward to this. I've been very happy with the 64 bit version of Safari in Snow Leopard. Fast and stable.

If Safari 5 is delayed or falls below the standard then I may investigate Chrome further. I do have it installed, but use it very rarely.

I highly doubt it, they've only just branched 533 which means at best you're going to see a minor update based on Webkit 1.0 with NPAPI pepper support, Core Animation accessibility to plugins and so on which will arrive in time for the launch of Flash 10.1 final.

Safari just works, it's fast, stable and does what you want.

Unless the pages you're on use flash.

There are pages where Safari has a real advantage over FireFox, but I end up using FireFox most of the time. One real advantage to FireFox is the better integration of Adblock (with more options... so that it doesn't take over your browsing experience). Also, who the heck keeps the default interface? FireFox is vastly more customizable, which I value in a browser.

Results

I just did some quick tests on the 3 major browsers and Chrome came out on top

Sunspider Total Time:
Chrome = 507.2ms
FF = 1271.2ms
S4 = 666.6ms

Acid3:
Chrome = 100/100
FF = 94/100
S4 = 100/100

Iv been using Chrome for a couple weeks now, and I cant see myself going back to either FF or S4. Havent had a single issue....even in Beta.
