So, Samsung has done smart watches before, Sony has made smart watches before and Google's Motorola has made smart watches before and they are copying Apple non existent smart watch?

Sometimes I'm amazed with this forum

1) Who wears a watch anymore?

2) What's a watch?

3) What time is it, Siri?

But seriously, I'm hopping Apple's next big thing is something other than the iWatch, because I don't see that being a big breakout product no matter who dies it.

Maybe if it's a long wrist device that's the size of the iPhone 5's screen, I might be interested.

Why would you bypass 2 clocks to ask Siri what time it is?

So the companies who already have ANNOUNCED products are copying a company that has NOT yet announced such a product. I guess that only makes sense in the world of Apple fans.

By the way, in your opinion, is Samsung also copying Apple with their Smart TVs? After all, Samsung has been selling Smart TVs for years now while the iTV is still just a silly rumor. But they sure are copying Apple, aren't they?

I have to wear a watch because Siri won't be very helpfull. In my country Siri is still extremely beta (=useless) and doesn't have a clue when I ask her what time it is ;)

We don't even have Siri in beta in our language here. Or iTunes Match. Or LTE that works on our frequencies, even though we have had LTE/4G for years.

But I would settle with the clock on the lock screen if I would use my iPhone to see what time it is.

Apple cannot dominate the market of watch. Smart watches are for kids or people who don't care about taste. Real men and wealthy women will buy a real watch;)

I agree but like I said, if anyone is going to do it, Apple will be the likely one to do it.

I don't own a watch because I don't like to get that watch tan line haha. However with all this watch talk lately and the fact that I recently got into free diving, having a waterproof watch might be handy. There is no way I am getting anything that does more than tell the time, date, tide, moon phase though. I want my life to be simple not, check my emails on my watch lol

Battery life should not be an issue. If I have to charge my phone every night why wouldn't I charge my watch every night as well? My pebble gets 7 days of battery life but I charge it every night since I take it off in bed and plug it in right when I plug in my iPhone.

Believe it or not, it's easier to charge something every night than once a week, because you have a daily routine. If it was once a week, you would be charging it when it dies, which is never a fun thing.

Agreed....especially if the iWatch comes with a simple charging stand you keep on your nightstand...take it off, drop it on the stand and there you go.

As a watch collector, I'm torn...I have over 30 watches, some from the 20's, and I wear a different one every day...the iWatch will really mess me up!

And exactly why a "real" man or a "wealthy" woman can't have both and use one or the other in different situations?

I can't wait for Apple to say "We aren't and never have been working on a watch" and then watch as everyone else says "We are dropping the watch project".

And why would that be amusing. Other manufacturers would be further pioneering the product and Apple would be left on the sidelines until they either did on themselves or lost out on potential revenue.

Companies aren't going to drop a watch project because Apple says they aren't making one. Do you have some information about products that have been rumored by Apple that other companies have said they are working on and THEN when Apple said they weren't working on anything were dropped?

Yeah - only Samsung already has/had smart watches. So maybe you want to revise your statement?

Using that logic, Apples definition of innovation is copying Sony? Who already have had a nice smart watch out, ( They also used the Sony Vaio form factor for the mbA ;) )

I can't think of one good reason to own a smart watch though. Is it all that hard to pull a phone out of your pocket?

I admit it. I had a Casio calculator watch in 1981. Don't suppose one of these watches will have an emulator for the game?

I'm just waiting for whenever we get a holographic popup display from a watch. :D

Yeah, they probably invented the gTimeMachine in 2020 after apple invented the iTimeMachine in 2019. Then came back to 2010-ish to invent Google Glass, which itself is a copy of the iBall(tm) from 2014...

<censored>, this <somebody> is copying Apple is tiresome. Why should we care if we have to choose between great and maybe not so great products?

Hell, you merely rearranged parts of your mom and you dad's DNA! No innovation... They should sue you!

The other week the president of Swatch dismissed the idea of an Apple branded watch. Now I predict the folks over at Casio will also start talking ****. They know Hades is coming and he's bringing the heat!!!!!
Oh how the critics with their hyperbole will banter on about the superfluousness of a "SMART WATCH"
That's how it always starts, doesn't it.
If it's true and it's done right, Apple will revolutionize the watch business. And so many legacy(Timex. Cough!Cough!) brands will go bankrupt.
That's how it ends, doesn't it.
