I still think it would have been nice to have it as a toggle in the settings, based on preferences. A guy can dream :D

ok i have one rule about this and every other part of iOS. IF THERE IS ALTERNATIVE TO A PROBLEM YOU HAVE WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY ANY MONEY, DON'T FU**IN COMPLAIN ABOUT IT! For example, no native youtube app built in, or even maps because there are web apps and other services that work just as well.

Well that's a cool rule. I hope you're not a boss/CEO.

Thank goodness. I have pretty much decided to postpone upgrading to iOS 6 until there is a Google Maps app available because I rely on the existing Maps app too much to mess around with the growing pains of the Apple version.

I think Apple will eventually get there. Don't forget that Google got a 7 year head start and I think that for a first product Apple actually did very well.

But the feature I used the most was StreetView so the Google Maps app is very welcome indeed.

I agree. Also I don't see Apple taking too long to approve it. Sure, they want people to use the built-in maps, and so might wait a little while, but they also don't want the bad press to dampen sales or enthusiasm for iOS 6 so they will likely approve it relatively soon.

I'm really happy to hear this. I was very frustrated to see the walk/car/bus option missing. And it seems like it may be quite a while before Apple prioritizes this feature over so many other bugs and issues.

BTW - This is my first post ever!

Welcome to the forums!! I hope you enjoy them as much as some of us do.

I personally have never used the walking or public transport features from the previous maps, but I do miss the street view feature. I love "visiting" places I haven't been to before.

You know, keep telling that to yourself.
You are probably that kind of person that will defend Apple no matter what. That's fine, but don't expect anyone to agree with you here.

Well this is great news, lets hope Apple approve this ASAP and not be an a******, because they really did a bad job with the map system, they were only thinking of USA, not the rest of the world like Google map does

The maps app is ****. We know it.

It takes time to develop such things. The whole AI and ML behind this insane. Google had a pretty big head start. This will only get better if we use it.

I'm not sure people resulted with the same comments when Google launched it back in the day.

To make Apple maps better, you got to use it. I've moved to the US and have been using it for a month. It works great for me but it was pathetic when I was back in India.

Another instance where consumers just need things ready and cannot accept a change and help to make a technology better. Duh!

I heard google will give iphone app the ability to store maps on the device like you can on android but they wont give google navigation

This is one of the reason I'm not sure about updating my iPhone to iOS6, but if Google releases it's own map app then I might just go for it on my 3Gs, at least we'll have a fall back given the complaints the Apple Maps are getting.

Apple has advertised the 3d maps in keynote so i doubt it also it will be a slap to the software development team.

Thankfully I have Navigon so I'm not reliant on Google getting its nose in my business.

Why is everyone excited?

Apple still has control over whether it actually makes it through or not.

I am with the majority in hoping it does get released sooner than later.

In the meantime, its time to fire Scott Forstall.

If they were smart, they’d wait another month to make the Maps tempest grow.

If they were REALLY smart they’d intentionally violate some obscure but important technical rule that will never make sense to non-programmers, with the intention of getting rejected (at first) and thus fueling an even BIGGER tempest.

In the meantime, its time to fire Scott Forstall.

If Google wanted their maps app to be separate and under their control, how could Forstall have changed their mind? (And why should he? Making Google Maps separate doesn’t just benefit Google, it benefits Apple too. And in the end, users—but there’s no way this transition can happen without users hurting along the way. Let’s hope this agony ends soon with TWO great Maps systems on iOS, one long-proven and one just getting started.)

Thankfully I have Navigon so I'm not reliant on Google getting its nose in my business.

Navigon fan here too :) Navigon MyRegion goes on terrific sales from time to time. Massive functionality for $15-$20, and now transit as an option.
