It is true that apple copies. But google never does 😉 I am just happy apple did not copy their Chipsets 😂
Also Samsung never copies...

It is just a coincident that they released Live Activities in the Latest updates.

No one really cares and I find it funny that Samsung is bashing and then does the same. Google was quiet until now but it seems they want to go with the same strategy. There is not much left on the smartphone market to revolutionize at the moment but there are opportunities to make existing functions better.

Everyone copies from everyone. That`s not only with phones. That is also with cars and everything else.

Samsung is even worse. They are bashing against apple, then they follow them and delete their bashing videos (like with removing Headphone jack or removing the Charging Brick). Samsung is even more evil. They just did with the Galaxy EDGE what they did with the Apple Watch. They know that Apple will release a product. Then they try to release it earlier just to tell everyone we were first. Their first watch was just crap.

What do we learn? Everyone copies. Consumers mostly don`t care. Everyone should use what they like.

Now we just need Apple to copy Google Assistant, so the very terrible Siri can be up to standards from years ago

I remember I used to argue with people over their smartphone choice, now I don’t even care. lol.

Can you call, text and send high res pictures and videos? If it’s a yes, I don’t care what phone you have! Lol. Do you, boo!

Apple says Android copied iOS in its entirety.
They did initially. Google was literally about to release a Blackberry/Moto Q clone with a button and keyboard based single touch OS until they saw the iPhone keynote at which point they completely pivoted to the multi-touch based phone OS and OS we know. Android later had unique features but it's all built on a copy of what Apple first released.

Never understood the point of these kinds of ads. "Hey, if you were considering switching to Android because these features are missing on your iPhone...don't worry, now you don't need to."
That’s not the point
It’s to show that Apple are behind software wise compared with Android

Exactly. When you copy someone else's work, it would be a shame not to add anything on top of that. And that is the extent of your work.

Oh for goodness sake do we need to keep going back to 2007 and keep mentioning the same thing over & over again
When software wise apple has taken more features from Android over the years

That's the point Google WANTS to make but not the effect the ad has on a good many people.

Ultimately it really doesn't matter much at all who copied what from whom. What matters is the current state of features of both the device and ecosystem and which a person prefers. Nice to have choices.

Well it does kind of matter because if your competitor has had these type of features for years then it shows that as a company your playing catch up software feature wise

Google points out something Apple’s being doing for years, it’s not copying, it’s catching up with the competition.
The irony is that Steve Jobs wanted to destroy Android as a "stolen product". Now Apple are "catching up" with Android.

Let's not forget that the iOS on the original iPhone (that I still own), was made of ideas (bought, borrowed, stolen..?) from other devices and IP, cleverly brought together to work as well as it did then and today.

Competition with Google, Samsung, or whoever has always been good for Apple consumers. Remember when Apple refused for years to acknowledge that we wanted a device bigger than 3.5" and all the iPad/phone meme's posted here on MR? Funny either way you look at it...

In a new ad, Google says iOS 26 copies three Android features that have been available on Pixel phones for years: Live Translate, Hold Assist, and Call Screening.

iOS-26-Hold-Assist.jpg

The video, part of the ongoing #BestPhonesForever series, shows an iPhone and a Pixel 9 Pro talking to each other on a fictional podcast.

"I announced live translation for text messages," the iPhone says.

"And it turned out I had that four years ago," the Pixel 9 Pro responds.

"Yeah, crazy coincidence," the iPhone says.

Similarly, the iPhone brings up Hold Assist and Call Screening, and the Pixel phone says it already offered those features too.

Live Translate debuted on the Pixel 6 in 2021. Just like on iOS 26, the feature can auto-translate text messages and phone calls.

In 2020, Google introduced a Hold for Me feature for the Pixel 3 and newer. Just like Hold Assist on iOS 26, the feature can wait on hold for you during a phone call so you do not need to pay attention, and alert you when the agent comes on the line.

Call screening debuted on the Pixel 3 all the way back in 2018.

Google does have a point here, but whether the ad is humorous or cringy is up for debate.

Also, the copying goes both ways.

Sure Google, differentiate based on the one feature I like to use least on any phone, taking and screening calls. That'll win me over.

Remember when Apple rolled out Visual Voicemail? It took a few years for Android to do the same. In the end, no one cared.

And they still cover the iPhone with a large and clunky case for these ads. Google is afraid of showing what an iPhone really looks like so they make it look unappealing.

Remember when Google had to scrap their entire smartphone because Apple showed them how it really should be done?

True story.

Google was working on a new smartphone to compete with Blackberry, but after Apple announced the iPhone and showed what it can do Google had to scrap their entire project (which had physical keyboard and a small non-touchscreen) and start copying iPhone.

These Pixel and iPhone ads are interesting. As for the features happy to see them on this year's iOS.

If your competition were insignificant, you would not expend the effort to inform the world that they have „plagiarized“ your work. However, this type of advertising raises the question of who the true king is.

I have to admit my brother and I were talking about this the other week that the iPhone just doesn't seem to ever catch up to android. And the design has just been stagnant and boring. We're both thinking about switching platforms. I'm a complete Apple/Mac/iPad/iPhone consumer, but I'm starting to get really bored of the iPhone and envious of android's capabilities and Samsung designs
Google copied the entire look and feel of iOS in 2008-2009, they are one to make fun of apple. Having said that if by you are bored of the iPhone and envious of android, sell you’re iPhone and go Samsung.

Based on what you say I say go for it and switch. That doesn't work as well for me as I have different wants/needs. For me a big part is about my liking the Mac over Windows PCs. That then takes me down a road of a certain ecosystem. Also, I personally don't care if something may be 'boring'. But I realize and respect that mine is only one of many perspectives. So go for it. You can always switch back again later.

Nothing new here. Apple has copied others from day 1. Just making things more useable and approachable is where Apple shined. However - as of late, they’re not doing so great at anything approachable or useable. They’re still great at branding old things to make them sound new though.
