As someone who switched to Apple with an iPhone 14 Pro after 13yrs of Droid, Nexus, and Pixel devices: this is such a room-temp-IQ-take from Google.

If people cared about who was first, Android would dominate in the US. Google markets their features so poorly.

Google has catching up to do in some areas, and Apple has catching up to do in some areas.

So Apple can't release features that are on Android? Of course they will if they're good. And the same goes for Android releasing features that are on iOS. I can't think of anything on Android that is a dealbreaker, wishing iOS has it. These new features iOS has that Android had a while ago are nice to have, rather than me say "finally, my iPhone is useful"

This has been the FanDroid mantra ever since 2007 “Android has had that for years”. It’s tried, trite, wrong. Remember the famous quote by a Google engineer when Jobs pulled out the iPone is 2007...

I’m surprised this thread isn’t limited because of the political nature of the post. 🤣

Apple refrains from launching features that compromise user privacy and security.
Fine examples are TouchID and FaceID, no personal identifiable data leaves the device or gets saved to a file that could be harvested.
Apple has been using AI for many years, called ML; many people think Apple has been late to the AI Race, but they are wrong.
Apple’s AI implementation focuses on security and privacy; unlike Google and the rest of the Android gang.
Apple is bringing 3 new features done the right way, with privacy and security in mind.

no what apple does mainly is sit back and waits to see what sticks and then implements it they have been known to do this for years

Whatever the interpretation their revenue is in the billions every quarter. You can say the most unflattering or flattering thing g about Apple and still they will get billions in revenue that quarter.

So what if apple as a company makes money
It still doesn’t change the fact they have implemented a lot of things from android over the years.

In a new ad, Google says iOS 26 copies three Android features that have been available on Pixel phones for years: Live Translate, Hold Assist, and Call Screening.

iOS-26-Hold-Assist.jpg

The video, part of the ongoing #BestPhonesForever series, shows an iPhone and a Pixel 9 Pro talking to each other on a fictional podcast.

"I announced live translation for text messages," the iPhone says.

"And it turned out I had that four years ago," the Pixel 9 Pro responds.

"Yeah, crazy coincidence," the iPhone says.

Similarly, the iPhone brings up Hold Assist and Call Screening, and the Pixel phone says it already offered those features too.

Live Translate debuted on the Pixel 6 in 2021. Just like on iOS 26, the feature can auto-translate text messages and phone calls.

In 2020, Google introduced a Hold for Me feature for the Pixel 3 and newer. Just like Hold Assist on iOS 26, the feature can wait on hold for you during a phone call so you do not need to pay attention, and alert you when the agent comes on the line.

Call screening debuted on the Pixel 3 all the way back in 2018.

Google does have a point here, but whether the ad is humorous or cringy is up for debate.

Also, the copying goes both ways.

Google is just jealous.

So in the future, when others copy Apple we are going to call it "catching up" and not "copying"

Right?

Right!??
"We" are not an amorphous blob lol.

Sure, some of us may be unfair, criticizing Android / Google, while praising Apple for similar things.

But mostly it's just that we notice the reactions of different people for different stories.

Nor does it change the fact that google copied the iOS design verbatim in 2009 and then got sued. Nor does it change the fact that google copied a lot from iOS over the years.
It’s not 2007 anymore I think apple fans should not keep going back to about
Two decades ago.
When software wise google has implemented better features because they can compared with apple

I have to admit my brother and I were talking about this the other week that the iPhone just doesn't seem to ever catch up to android. And the design has just been stagnant and boring. We're both thinking about switching platforms. I'm a complete Apple/Mac/iPad/iPhone consumer, but I'm starting to get really bored of the iPhone and envious of android's capabilities and Samsung designs
I think the same but I never hear anyone talk about google phones like they do with iPhones. Samsung’s phones are talked about more than google phones.

No time limits on this. Copy once, copy again.

When Apple has implemented eyes more polished software than compared to google.
What does that even mean
Copy once, copy again for something that happened about two decades ago
You understand that is nearly 20 years ago
it’s a bit odd to keep going that far back

Apple couldn’t implement these new features originally as most of their consumers wouldn’t accept it because some don’t like change because of their demographic

Like sorry, but I think Apple is already allowed like right now to copy. Just look at everyone else. You literally don’t know who introduced the feature first in most scenarios🤷‍♂️

Pretty much everything. Security, privacy, functionality.
What does that even mean
Pretty much everything.
Security my sisters android device is secure never had any issues
Again she’s never had an issue with privacy using android
Her devices over the years have actually held up better than people’s iPhones over the same time period in how long she keeps her devices
So I don’t think google are jealous
