<s> Oh no, someone's going to find all that stuff I posted to Google+ </s>

Seriously, though, Google is just crying out to be regulated much much more closely -- and/or straight up broken up like AT&T.
Well, that's not what was accessible in this case.

Oh gosh yes! Gmail! Even worse than Google Plus!!
How's Gmail worse than Google+?

I'm on one private group. I have some good friends that I interact with daily. We're going to start looking for another place to have our little community.

I'm open to suggestions that are not FB, IG, or any other data mining front end ;)

Google is a company that’s kind of a scam, or a pyramid scheme. They’re entire business plan is to exploit people. Their hope for growth is simply more tracking, spying, watching and reselling. That’s how they plan to increase revenue. Using any Google app or service should be seen as you giving up any online rights or privacy. Google will make George Orwell’s fears look old fashioned.

Under GDPR, companies can be fined up to 4% of global annual turnover for violations. Failure to disclose a breach is a violation of GDPR.

I wonder if the EU will come after Google for this billions. Something tells me not.

Seem like I remember just a few days ago, GDPR being used as "proof" that no way Apple could have let a breach of their servers go unreported.

So much for that.

I signed up for it when it released but it just never attracted most of my friends who were on FB. I stopped using it years ago. Google does many things right, but a social network just isn’t one of them. Well YT is really their social network.

Are major companies lax with their security protocols and policies? Or hackers just that ahead of the curve? Or could it be both?

Another reason that I don't use chrome, gmail, google maps, and of course I am not sure I ever had a Google + profile setup as I don't think I ever turned it on. I use to have a g-suite account for business, but canceled that too. The only google service I ever use and with a throw away email account is youtube. If I can find it elsewhere I will.

I personally think this is just the tip of the iceberg with Google. I think some of this isn't a breach as much as they have been selling. They have been snagging personal info of their users for years and years. No telling what all they have. Facebook is the same difference and people live their lives on facebook. It's freaking crazy, but I can only speak for myself.

I totally agree with you, this is nothing new and has been going on for ages. Seems like people are starting to see the what these companies are all about now. Sad to see that some people are still living under a rock.

This would make the world a bit better if this happened. Bring it on. I've already closed out all my gmail accounts. Actually kill the entire Google. That's a start!
Or basically the whole internet, and TV, and basically most other things out there...

I tried using it a few years ago but I didn't care for the UI, not to mention I'm not that big with social media anyhow.

Given the stranglehold Facebook has, G+ didn't really stand a chance anyhow. I'm surprised Google didn't sunset it long ago anyhow.

In an internal memo, Google's legal staff recommended against disclosing the bug because it would invite "immediate regulatory interest" and result in a comparison to Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal.
That's the scariest part. Not fancy going paranoid and all but imagine what else they've decided not to "disclose"?!
Why doesn't Apple develop their competing search service? They have the brains, and, the resources. The monopoly of Google is a wrong status quo(I don't count Bing at all)!

As Yahoo! and Microsoft have shown, even with resources and talent, it's still very far from easy to develop not just a good service but one that people will actually use so that it would make sense to put money into (given that these kinds of things can't simply be done for free).

Why doesn't Apple develop their competing search service?
Apple isn't as ubiquitous across the Internet as Google is. With the huge marketshare the IBM-PC has across the globe, using Google to search is second-nature to people. Even with Microsoft Windows on all of those IBM-PC's Bing still isn't the go-to search engine. Google is so engrained anymore that overwhelmingly people, including myself, incorrectly say as part of casual conversation, "I Googled it" or some derivative thereof when talking about searching something on say, Bing or DuckDuckGo. The more correct term would be "search" rather than "Google" which as a proper noun has become more of a verb as it were.

For Apple to jump into the Internet search market, it might be an exercise in futility. Something catastrophic and truly damaging with significant effect would likely have to happen to Google before another companies product could take over as search giant.

Are you serious? Unless you're living under a rock for the past decade or more, this is how they run their business. There's a zillion sources all over the internet. But here's one for you.

Details matter, sir. Google does NOT sell your data. They sell the ability to put an ad in front of a very specific demographic of person. Why would Google sell its #1 asset?

Sure, if that's what you want to believe.

Google is very clear about it in their terms of use. If you can provide a clear case of Google selling users data, we have a pretty good case for a class action lawsuit. Otherwise, you are just randomly making crap up on the Internet and spreading misinformation.
