Interesting. When I tested Stadia about two years ago I remember I thought the video stream quality was much worse (compresse) compared to that of GeForce Now. Latency was also clearly better on the latter for me.
It is really dependent on how close you are to their servers

That's 99.99% Apple Music, and .001% Apple Arcade. There is a reason why apple does not breakout by service category when it reports.

Lol…you are citing a blended number. If I were to guess, 99% of that figure is for music and less than 1% for arcade…good try though 😄

When you can't be arsed to actually read the source material... we have to quote to make you look silly.

"The two services are likely to have a combined subscriber base of about 180 million by 2025 - 110 million for music and 70 million for gaming."

"Apple Arcade, the gaming subscription service launched in 2019, is estimated to pull in $1.2 billion." <That's currently. My figure above is Reuters prediction for 2025.

Reuters knows more than you random internet persons.

And again... Just because YOU don't understand or like it... doesn't mean that 70 Million Parents / Causal gamers / other open-minded people do.

Literally the first time I've ever heard of Stadia.

However in the world of Google rug-pulls, it's nice to see that they were classy enough to refund purchases. That's definitely a step in the right direction.

All that hardware to become non-functional? Really environmentally-friendly there, Google.
I would not be opposed to a law that said when a tech product is discontinued, the manufacturer must publish detailed internal documentation so that open source people can make something of it.

This is one of the reasons I never really got started with it, I figured they'd fold it unless it took off fast and the idea for it seemed flawed from the start

Not to say your wrong but Google has really screwed itself by helping create this vicious cycle where users don’t want to try a new Google service because they fear its eventual abandonment and Google shuts the service down because not enough people used the service.

Google sucks LOL.

Uhh, that's investor speak. We are in 2022, not sure how they are reaching those figures in 2025, probably reliant on some growth assumptions. Furthermore, how many of those Apple Arcade members are on free trials? They hand those out like candy. Last point, how many of those subscribers are signed up for a bundled plan that just happens to include Apple Arcade, as well?

I really wanted this concept to take off. I hate the gaming ecosystem. I've avoided it for years because of the high barrier to entry and maintenence. A nice, cheap, easy platform that didn't rely on updating an ageing platform that constantly fell behind the PC field, or worse, trying to keep up with PC gaming, was a nice idea.

I guess I'll wait for the PS6. Maybe 7.

Well YouTubeTV is still kicking and has less than that. As a YTTV subscriber, I hope that continues but never know with Google.
YouTube TV is barely surviving with paper thin profile margin and very slow growth. The good thing is that most of their competitors have folded, but like every other players, Google is at the mercy of content licensing deals.

Alphabet treats their services like beta testing programs. There’s no commitment at all.

Google is the quitter of software, and Microsoft is the quitter of hardware.

I do understand that as a business you have to cut your losses, but if you keep doing it, customers don't feel confident investing in any new product they introduce.

I mean… any service operated by Google is always up for the chopping block. They aren’t the only ones as Apple have their fair share of services created and shuttered in a few years.

Not surprising since GPU and CPU component price crash make PC gaming more affordable and attractive with much better experience. It's be a bigger loss for Mac gamers.

It's better than nothing. While Apple is still struggling with gaming market, I was able to play windows and xbox only games on Mac via cloud. Now, Stadia will be gone and it's such a shame.

Yup, entering a market and offering nothing new or innovative leads to nothing more than a small dent in a continuously shrinking industry.

Google thought they could convert cord cutters into YTTV customers, but people don’t cancel cable and replace it with YTTV. They just cancel cable.

People are smart enough to see YTTV for what it is. Cable over ethernet, and people are tired of cable.

It’s a huge dent in the industry. Everyone else is shrinking. They’re growing. Figure it out.

Cloud streaming is not the future of gaming and will always be a niche.

I think if it was done right, it could be great. This service would have to offer cloud gaming, but also a selection of games like Gamepass for one reasonably priced sub. Of course this is easier said than done.

Think of the obvious benefits:
  • not having to install/ uninstall games or make space for one game by uninstalling another
  • not having to worry about games not working properly on your hardware, or maintain a costly gaming PC
  • being able to game on slower computers, iPads, mom's PC when you're house-sitting, maybe your TV?
I tried it skeptically, but was surprised on how well it worked. There was latency but not as much as I thought there would be - almost unnoticeable. It doesn't beat out my dedicated gaming rig especially for e-sport games, but for simplicity and minimalism the concept is quite attractive.

Color me shocked. Google, moonlighting something they convinced people to spend money on
