What's the point of questions like this? It's an apple-centric forum, so people are going to be supporting Apple more so then another company. The guy who used "we" and "us" is just weird, but everyone else is just having a discussion. Are you suggesting that if Apple was the one that bought Motorola that android-centric forums wouldn't be upset? Stop asking dumb questions...

Pardon me for trying to figure out the logic from members on this forum. I didn't know that in order to be a part of this forum one could only be pro-apple and nothing else.

That's not my point. My point is, why are you surprised? You're on the internet, on an apple-centric forum, and you expect everyone to be all unbiased and fair? I mean...seriously? Like when you read these pro-apple posts you were flabbergasted and shocked? Is this the first time you've signed onto the internet and perused a discussion forum?

It happens on every discussion forum in the world. There are pro-people and con-people, and there are dumb fanboys. You act as if this is the first place youve seen something like this (and if it is, clearly you have never visited any other discussion forum, ever).

Your post was just designed to troll, plain and simple. Stop fancying it up with your "genuine" questions about why people are acting a certain way.

Ummmmm was Google not banging on about fair trade and trying to overturn Apple (and others) acquisition of the Nortel patents? Pot... Kettle... Black!!!

This has been a non-factor for Motorola. They've been sucking wind for a while now, regardless of signal clarity and ruggedness. The market is not about these things.

Google might just as likely pull an HP/WebOS f-up anyway. It happens all the time, and Google is no Apple.
Don't you realize that's the good part "Google is no Apple" this is the mindset that needs to be broken, I mean Steve Jobs has really laid a whammy on peoples brains like call quality and signal don't matter the 2 most major problems with the iPhone.

The other Android manufacturers can't be happy about this. I mean really, you're in the market for an Android phone... do you go with the Official Google Android Phone (or The Droid as it is already called) or "one of those other phones."

Sure there is the minority that is in the know, and they'll be choosier. But I can't tell you the amount of people that I know that have HTC phones and claim they own "Droids." It already has the best brand recognition. This further strengthens that. HTC would never publicly say they're pissed but trust me, they're pissed.

That is assuming that Google will play favoritism - it's against their interests to do so and there is no strong reason for Google to let go of the handset sales from HTC/Samsung etc. Remember Google is into search and advertising primarily - the more handsets out there with Android the better.

You also forgot about the international market - there is no way Motorola alone can cater to the huge market - India/China etc.

Then there is also the fact that Samsung is a big, well known brand (may be even more so than Motorola) and they sell the most Android phones this date. Basically lot of factors that are likely to make this arrangement work.

This is great news for Apple. Google just signed Android's death warrant. HTC, Samsung and many small handset makers now will avoid Android like the plague.

NOW is the time for Apple to license iOS. They can steal Android's market overnight.

And so the patent war begins...

Do you even know what this acquisition means? Samsung, HTC and others will not avoid Android, in fact they are going to be closer, because now they know they won't be sued by Moto. Google will keep them under their wing. And Apple will never license iOS.

You make some very valid points ,their is no way Motorola could even handle half of the market they just don't have the capacity.

So whats with all this apple evangelism?

Really? Take a look at the URL at the top of your browser window.

Do people gripe incessantly about "evangelism" on Android and Microsoft-related forums? I don't know because I don't visit those sites, but I'm guessing no.

Why, yes, I do. Frankly, I don't see how being all "part of the cheerleader" squad is something that can be seen as positive or something to aspire to. I'd rather keep my cold hard logic and objectivity.

The fact I like Apple products shouldn't mean I have to somehow like everything the company does and hate everything its competitors do. The world doesn't have to be black and white and I don't understand what motivates others to see it as such.

Must be a sad existence when you can't even analyse something objectively and have to constantly taint it with biased subjectivity. Must be especially hard when that taint goes against principles you hold, but to save face and keep a constant dialog, you have to stick to it.

How DARE you mock Steve Jobs' reality distortion field!!

You say "we" like you are part of some battle? Its a friggen phone lol..
Best reply in this thread. lol

SMH at fanboys.

So according to Google's top brass when Apple buys patents it's anti-competative, but Google buying patents is breaking new ground? Hypocrisy defined right there.
So when Apple copies many features that existed in Android and other OSes for their iOS5, that is "revolutionary" and "magical." When Android copies iOS, Google gets sued for it? Apple rips off others just the same just like Microsoft copied Apple.

I generally don't care who wins. At the end, they are out to make money. I just laugh when I see hypocrisy from fanboyism. None of these companies really care about you. Make "cents"?

Find me, ANYWHERE, people that are obsessed and evangelical about any product as they are with apple.

I've ONLY seen this kind of extreme psychotic and delusional obsessed brand loyalty within Apple evangelicals.

They won't be sued by Motorola, but will continued to be sued by all the others whose IP Google violates in order to make their free smartphone OS.

While I'm sure they can take comfort that one of the companies Google was likely infringing was bought out, I'm not sure that the IP Google now owns is enough keep them safe long-term. How much in legal fees and/or licensing fees will Google have to pony up before this is all said and done? They've already spent billions trying to protect it's advertising revenue, how much more?

I think that this was a smart move by Google short term, but I'm not sure long term. Unless of course their plan is to eventually ditch the licensees (or assume that they won't be important long term) and compete head to head with Apple as a hardware/software competitor. I'm guessing they're seeing how Apple is getting Advertising/Software/Hardware profits - almost ALL the profits in the industry, while Google is settling for just their advertising revenue - though that is a lot of advertising revenue. They can't help but wonder why they are settling for only a small piece of the pie.

While they've done a decent job playing catch up with Apple, and even have a few nice improvements to the OS they stole, I'm not sure that innovation and great user experience is what Google does best, and that's what they will need to compete directly against Apple in the hardware arena. I've used Android - it's no iOS, and likely never will be.

Big vindication for Apple's business model.

Microsoft should probably figure out soon that they need to do hardware. Will they now buy Nokia?

Before Apple crashed back in the day, Bill Gates sent Apple a letter urging them to open their platform; Apple didnt, and almost went down the drain (Microsoft pretty much saved their ass). Meanwhile, MSFT (or rather the Wintel platform) came to dominate the computer industry (which they still do), raking in +30% profit on revenue (yes, thats a better profit return than Apple has).

MSFT does not, and should not, "do hardware". That said, learning from Apple and Android, they should keep enforcing tight restrictions on OEMs to ensure a good UX - but they do not (and should not) "do hardware". Especially not considering the upcoming convergence of platforms, where Microsoft relies on their partners to do their part of the job when it comes to pushing devices.

We have a winner!! The iPhone really isn't a good phone. It is an excellent pocket computer, etc, but it is merely average at being a phone.

If you expect that, then you're either extremely naive or a newbie to the internet. I'm not asserting that the cheerleader mentality is the right one, or thats how it should be, but this is the internet, bro. It hasn't changed in the last 10 years.

You're trying to tell me that you are shocked that there are fanboys on an apple-centric forum? Or that you signed up for this forum expecting harmony and peace? Are you trying to make me laugh?

Saying "I don't get why people are acting this way" is a troll post, and that's it. There's no point in asking such a baseless and pointless question, and its even sadder that you're here trying to defend it.

There are fanboys and idiots on every website on the planet. It's silly that you're upset about it...
