Will it play flash? Also didn't google say it was getting out of hardware?

Google Chrome, the browser also shipping with Google Chrome OS, even has Flash (and PDF) built into the browser, so I think this is a safe bet. Google Chrome OS is Linux-based, and as we know, Flash is available for this platform too. I see no obstacles at all to Flash support.

You're missing my point, which is my fault since I should have stated that earlier. The Extremists cry about something that Google will be producing, and start crying that Apple did it first.. blah blah blah. Then make statements which just don't make sense like what I did.

I personally like choice and competition. Apple unfortunately doesn't equate to choice since they prefer to limit usage on their devices. That's not saying that Android does the same, but it seems more open to choices. And that's the key part, it's choices. Just like Jobs stated, we have a choice, we can either select the iDevices and live by his rules, or go somewhere else. Ultimately in the end, it's all business, and if it keeps the Shareholders happy, then who cares what features are on and not on a device. People will buy it regardless. For a long time, iDevices didn't have copy and paste, but people still bought the devices. For a long time, iDevices didn't have multitasking, but people still bought the devices. The list can go on and on.

Can you honestly tell me we would live in a better world without having choices?

First, I wasn't arguing your point. I just thought it wasn't appropriate that you called the other poster ignorant when you had obvious misconceptions in your post.

As to your point, I think choice is an overblown bulletpoint for the anti-Apple contingent. The iPhone offers you hundreds of thousands of choices in addition to the choice of all the alternatives to the iPhone. Apps, settings, and all the sites and webapps that mobile Safari supports. It's the few times that Apples doesn't provide options that get latched on in the media and the blogs.

Do you realize how much you can do with an iPhone that you wouldn't be able to do now at all with any device had Apple not invested billions and released it? And people say Apple sucks because it doesn't have Flash.

Some people want to do anything they want with software. Open source is their solution. Android fits the bill. Proprietary software has advantages over open source and vice versa. Unrealistically, some people want all the advantages of proprietary software and all the control of open source.

"Choice is always better" sounds so obvious that it seems hard to argue with. It's just not true unless you have infinite time and infinite resources.

For a long time, iDevices didn't have copy and paste, but people still bought the devices.

Are you aware that only the just released Android 2.2 update has (mostly) universal cut and paste? Up until now, you could not even cut and paste in an email. Maybe it wasn't just the "arrogant" and "controlling" Apple denying us a simple feature that they should have included from the beginning. Maybe they actually do have limited resources and have to prioritize one feature over another.

I'm going to cut through all the stupid arguing and say that I anticipate this will be a big success if it is priced under $300.

With or without a two-year contract? And what's the minimum plan? You aren't going to get $250 in subsidies on a $15/month plan.

And how many constitutes a success? And how soon?

For the same reason I just purchased an Android tablet - it fits into my photo work flow. If I could use the iPad for file transfer without importing into iPhoto I would be a happy camper.

Or just install Airsharing or any of a dozen other apps. Airsharing is both wireless and USB through itunes. I've never used iPhoto for anything.

"Free and open" is where it's at, man. Google gives you the "choice" of buying spyware-laden apps. It's about freedom. Nothing to worry about here, people. Move along. Move along. ;)

Sorry to adress this post as you are clearly one of the most valuable members here, but...

Bitching about spyware on Google devices while being an Apple fanboy is really really something to have a shrink look after. You ever read one of the iTunes-related EULAs recently?

If not, then let me tell you that the best incarnation of the definition spyware is now called iTunes! And the spyware feature is touted as GENIUS.

Just FYI

This baby will be better spec'd then the ipad and probably cheaper too, but it wont work as sexy as the ipad and it certainly wont sell asmany.

EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Multi-touch is extremely overrated.
That doesn't matter at all when your company is selling close to 12 million multi-touch devices annually.

another apple fankid who insinuates that Apple was the first to come out with a tablet. WRONG!
So on-edge. Fankid, fanboy, blah, blah, blah. Why the name calling? Reasons aside, the simple fact is that tablets were not popular UNTIL the iPad. Enough said.

Competition drives innovation. Bring them on!
I agree with this. Apple should have included a built-in camera. It should also have a built-in SD card reader. And the 4:3 screen format left some wondering what Jobs was thinking. So a true 720p screen on this Chrome-OS tablet makes more sense.

Even so, it's important to consider that Google is the 21st Century Microsoft, insofar as they have run dry of creative ideas of their own so they feel compelled to copy Apple. More power to Google if they are successful, but I would prefer them to be successful within products that are starkly different from that of Apple.

All said, I hope this competition drives Apple to give us more in the next edition of the iPad.

WOW Microsoft. Glad the engineers are really taking some thought into Office Suite. If they only hold 2 documents up togther. They will never get it. Get rid of powerpoint and stop the nonsense. And one more thing stop moving the tools around. Users are frustrated with the back and forth. Get the basics down first and then start integrating image editing. So much for the new Microsoft Startup lab in Cambridge.

I do believe you have the wrong article Old Bean

It's known as Black Friday - not for the discounts, but for the fact that most businesses are "in the black" after that day.
No it isn't who told you that LOL !!!!! It's known as Black Friday because it was part of the civil rights movement. African Americans fought back against discrimination by withholding their money from merchants.

So lame. Apple intentionally left out the SD reader so people would have to pay for this extremely overpriced adapter. what a ripoff!!!

Wrong...

...and wrong

LOL keep telling yourself that. There's TONS of space in an ipad to put a small SD reader. Sure the argument can be made that a tiny SD slot wasnt included for "aesthetics," I can accept that.

But that doesnt change the fact that USB SD readers can be had for as low as a few bucks. Apple is charging $30 for this adapter which does EXACTLY the same thing.

People said the same about Android and now look. Your post = Epic Fail !!!!!

I won't "keep telling" myself that because I honestly couldn't care less if the iPad had an SD slot. I think Apple realized that 98% of iPad buyers couldn't care less about an SD slot either.

If you need a tablet with an integrated SD slot then don't buy the iPad. If you already have an iPad and need to use an SD card then by the chinese-knockoff adapter for $3 it that suits you. Apple isn't forcing anyone to buy the iPad or the expensive adapter.

But you own an iPad so I'm preaching to the choir, right? I know nobody on these forums would complain about a product that they don't actually own

I've seen a picture of the new GooglePad. They're very unique and creative..

This just in:

An insider has just heard from another insider who knows a source close to an insider that Google and Microsoft are co=operating on making MacBooks.

They will be made entirely from liquid vapor and use no chips and will be steered by brain power. (That unfortunately excludes many of the posters here)

They will be called ZuneBooks and drawings are on Steve Ballmers desk.

The drawings can't be sitting on Steve Ballmer's desk. Steve Ballmer doesn't have a desk. He had one, but he smashed it with a chair when the iPad was released.

Great you dont care. It's still a ripoff!

I don't get people rating this as negative.

A little competition can only be healthy for Apple - and ecpecially us consumers! - when looking forward to iPad 2. It forces Apple to step it up and keep new and better specs and features rolling. Isn't that what we want?

I haven't bought iPad yet, precicely because I feel it's just not awesome enough yet. A few things would make it just that. A slightly larger screen (less of that huge bezel), higher resolution, more RAM for multitasking, faster CPU for games and maybe a USB port. Of course all of this is coming eventually, but it's competiton like this that can make upgrades happen at a faster pace.

Personally I hope the Google tablet will be awesome. I hope it blows iPad out of the water, with better everything! And then I will sit comfortably and wait for the next iPad :D

Since the beginning this thread has involved discussion about more than just the Google tablet.

And now it's turned into a crapfest about this chrome tablet. No one here is going to buy it... so why discuss it? That's your position, right?

Besides, your the one who starting complaining about the ipad in the first place

What's with the rolleyes? Did you scold all the people complaining about this chrome pad too? Besides I just made a comment on an adapter that someone else brought up in the first place. It is a ripoff. nothing you say can change that.

FYI I wouldnt buy an overpriced adapter for a chrome tablet if it didnt come with SD readers either. To intentionally leave out functionality just so you can rip off consumers is a really crappy thing to do.
