All The "Me Too" Strap Hangers Rushing To The Party

...too little too late. Besides Google OS's just don't measure up. They are just ok.

But the worst is MS. At least Google has set a date in the near future. At the bottom of the "strap" is Ballmer still saying "coming soon".

MS is toast.

and by the way...Apple did his fair share of copying stuff, hell there entire look/design is a complete rip off from 1960 Braun products...also its not as if Apple invented the tablet now is it.

wow are you serious

nothing in that pic looks similar enough to me to call it a copy or a rip off

that grate pattern is fairly common and comparing the monitors was just dumb, i can show you any 2 TVs a call them copies as well

and comparing 2 boxy metal things that share no other specific details and saying they are copies

thanks for making me laugh

i wouldn't put it past Apple to take design ideas from old or even new products from other companies occasionally but that Braun comparison is just someone with too much time on their hands

One thing is for certain though, Apple is definitely the most unique and original when compared to any of their current major competitors

wow, that mockup looks hot! i would buy that over the ipad. well, based on the looks, not functionality because it is an unannounced product. i really enjoy this when competition heats up and products keep getting better and better. can't wait to see what they release and how the price and features compare to the ipad. time will tell. great find. keep it up MR. :p

Competition drives innovation. These are good things for the mutiple "platform" and ultimately for the end users, aka, you & me.

I'm for all of the competitors in the space driving Apple Engineering to continue to pursue excellence. Google, HP, Dell whom ever!

Bring them on!

It would be more impressive if any of the companies you mention actually innovated anything rather than simply trying to duplicate anything Apple does.

I agree, how long can they survive with Office (yawn) and a 20th century OS?

Could it be that Oracle's patent lawsuit is what makes Google use Chrome on this rather than Android? (Assuming this rumor is not a huge pile of BS, which I'm inclined to believe).

On the other hand, Apple needs to avoid sleeping on their laurels with the iPad. Most welcome would be an iOS update supporting wireless printing and video projection.

Dieter Rams is an extremely famous industrial designer, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Apple designers are consistently influenced by his work. In fact Rams just recently said that Apple is the only current company designing according to his principles of design. To me the connection is not really that big a stretch, and a fairly logical progression considering the schools of design they represent.

basically just calling 2 similar things rip offs is dumb and it happens all the time

I guess if i start making TVs tomorrow I cant make them black or rectangular or i am completely ripping off everyone elses TVs

i can see design similarities from that pic but i wouldn't call them ripoffs

companies utilize design ideas that have been used previously all the time its hardly worth mentioning

and if he had said they took their style... I could see it, but to compare specific products like that and say they were directly ripped off... ehh

Ummm - did you know that Apple OSX was first released to the public in the 20th century?

Did you know that the Mach kernel dates from 1986? And did you know that its UNIX roots date back to the 1970s?

If Chrome OS is sold on heavily subsidized hardware, or with cheap 4G data access, I can see myself picking one up. Not sure if I'd want a tablet though; if everything's on the web, then for me, a mouse and keyboard are essential. The iPad only works its magic because most of its applications are designed FOR the iPad.

So, release a cheap Chrome OS netbook, give me cheap/free/unlimited data access, and for sure I'd pick one up.

Unfortunately I don't see how the data could be cheap/free or anywhere near unlimited. I pay $25 a month for 6 GB of data on my phone. Think how much it would cost to bring me 20-30GB of data on a laptop, and faster than 3G at that.

Anyways, this tablet really should be running on Android. It's not pleasant using a touchscreen web browser. But the applications on mobile OSes designed for touchscreen hardware (ie. iOS and Android) are what make data access worthwhile. Since Chrome OS is mainly just still webpages, which are designed for COMPUTERS, then they better release it on something that has a freaking pointing device and keyboard.

So funny that Google is following Apple around trying to copy their success. Kinda sad, really. "Google, please go back to building search crap, that's what you do! Leave the cool products to the company that can do it right!"

+1

Copycats are funny.

c'mon, apple didn't invent the MP3 Player or the smartphone. they just have a better marketing department.

No they didn't.....but there is a big difference. Apple didn't just come into the phone or MP3 market and simply copy something.....they innovated both of those devices. I don't see this tablet as an innovation....more of a copy.

now here's a good laugh for ya, Apples top designer himself claimed to be "highly" influenced by Dieter Rams for his designs...but i guess he's probably talking crap also wright, how the hell would he know who influenced him for his designs?

better you only talk about the stuff you know...quit making a fool out of yourself

Here's another one for you to laugh at, they even copied the colors...but hey it probably all coincidence

Since when is apple a he? Get out of this website and go play with ur buggy ass android phone and enjoy watching ur purchased pc crashed. And if ur trying to compare hardware, apples stuff isn't behind by the consumer standard (have u seen the new mac pros or imacs?) if ur building the computer that is different but apple builds computers for people who don't want to build one themselves u ****. So not a far comparison. You pay for the software on them not just hardware (windows sucks).

i have seen the MacPro's, yes....wright on that sentence i stopt taking you serious...if you'd have a little sense you'd know the 2009's were bad value, a 60$ graphics card in 4000$ machine lol, now the 2010 update is a straight slap in the face for professionals, an update that took 500+days just to come up with a new graphics card and cpu...and yeah imacs are really great also, specialy with the yellow tinted screen... don't let me get you all frustrated, bigshot

So it looks like the basic argument is that anyone who makes a tablet is copying off of Apple? What about all of the tablets that were out before the iPad was released? Apple didn't copy from them? I guess Apple is immune from any criticism because a iFan will come and kill anyone who even insinuates Apple did something wrong. (I just locked my door after typing that) :)

Its called competition. It's what drives companies to make the best product they can. And besides, how much different can someone make a square with a touch screen on it look? Looking at the specs, it doesn't have anything in common with the iPad except that it's a tablet, and Apple doesn't have a patent on the tablet computer as a whole, so the argument Google or anyone else is "riding Apple's success" is absurd.
