I can totally understand the developer’s frustration. Imagine you spent 5 years to develop a revolutionary fitness app and then Apple charges you 30% of your profit, plus then they later copy your app... ie: Fitness +. Even the Apple maps feature to see how busy a business is, will be a copy of google feature for many years. No wonder google is labeled as a research company. Apple is known for greediness only. I wish i could return my HomePod they just stopped making.
You also get access to Apple’s user base, which basically makes up for the 30% cut and then some.

There’s a reason why many developers still release apps for iOS first despite all these caveats. iOS is still where the money is.

It's a model that IMHO makes far more sense.

Going from 1,000,000 to 1,000,000.01 and losing an additional 15% for the extra cent never sat well with me.
This is probably just like Apple's commission, you don't loose that 15% on the sales you already made, its just the sales you make after $1,000,000 that gets changed at the 30%.

Certainly easier to manage(for Google) than Apple's system. And a welcome change for small developers I am sure, though yet again Epic are having a hissy fit. Now to compete with Google and Apple they'll have to drop their cut to 2% or so as they where already vastly more expensive than Google and Apple's 30% cuts.

Awesome! I have both the Samsung S21 Ultra and the iPhone Pro Max

The Samsung is the BETTER phone. Love the quality, nice to hold. iPhone is Heavy and Bulky.

Iphone drops Calls. Audio quality Stinks.

Samsung S21 takes better Pictures and Android has matured into an awesome OS over IOS.
From "theregister.com": Samsung's appropriately ranked vice-chairman Lee Jae-Yong, right now behind bars for bribery, concealment of criminal proceeds, and embezzlement, is being investigated for illegal drug use...

I wouldn't usually mention it, but you seem such a fanboy...

Update: A spokesperson for Epic Games shared the following statement with MacRumors, arguing that "competition in payment processing and app distribution is the only path to a fair app marketplace":
What he really means: Letting Epic and its Chinese owner TenCent rip off Apple (and Google as well) is the only way to a fair app marketplace.

PS. Google's terms seem to be simpler and more fair - I wouldn't mind if Apple copied that back, and I seriously hope that nobody will complain if they do, just like nobody should complain about Google doing this.

While a reduction in the Google app tax may alleviate a small part of the financial burden developers have been shouldering, this does not address the root of the issue. Whether it's 15% or 30%, for apps obtained through the Google Play Store, developers are forced to use Google's in-app payment services. Android needs to be fully open to competition, with a genuinely level playing field among platform companies, app creators, and service providers. Competition in payment processing and app distribution is the only path to a fair app marketplace.

Epic's reply doesn't really work here, they can shove their developer trap onto Android. Developers are not forced to use the Google Play Store. And this once again shows their only agenda is to have the Epic store pre installed at all costs on mobile devices and somehow convince developers that paying them 12.5% + $10,000's in other costs is better than Apple and Google's 15% and 30% flat fee per sale with no extra costs.

I wouldn't call it "copying". More like seeing that it's a good idea, because (a) it's not that expensive, (b) it makes lots of developers happy, and (c) it's a kick in the teeth for Epic, and then doing it as well.

We just need Steam to follow as it suddenly became second only to Epic in expense.

As long as it kills off these annoying little game stores like Epic and Bethesda.net.

We can hope. I for one strongly oppose having multiple game stores when I want my library in one place and friends in one place. Thankfully not a soul I know has bothered with anything but Steam for games, and rightfully so, Steam got in there with a compelling store and there is no need to split users between multiple stores that all do the same thing.

Apple isn’t taking 30% of the profit. They are charging 30% of the sale price and providing a distribution service that protects a developer’s customer base from pirated software or software that includes malware or is itself malware and/or spyware like all Google products. Show me a store, brick and mortar or virtual, that doesn’t charge a sales commission. in fact, show me a brick and mortar clothing store that doesn’t charge a 100%-300% markup on goods they sell.

30% of the sale price works out a lot higher than 30% of the profit.

These platforms are virtual countries and those who rule them are in reality functioning as totalitarian kings. I imagine it’s one hell of an ego trip.

Yet you still frequent Apple forums.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks thinks this is all about Apple when IMHO its more than likely is about keeping themselves out of anti-trust hot water. I'm sure they're more worried about the regulators rather than Apple. Probably won't work but they can try.

Not that it makes any difference to me. The Google Play Store gets the same from me as the Apple App Store does ~~~> 0€/$US0.

Ahahahahahahahahaha.

Google trying to 1-up Apple, and succeeding.
Yes Google is very good at sucking up your information with their data raping tools....or ummmm.... free software and then selling that to the highest bidder.....much, much, much better than Apple is.

Would you prefer each app be its own little city-state where your citizenship can be revoked because leadership decided to change who they support? Because that's what's happening with PC gaming right now. Epic is buying exclusives, Microsoft is delaying releases and pricing games higher on competing platforms, and official third-party stores are finding that developer agendas are controlling what keys are available for consumers. PC gaming is not a free market right now. Between hardware not being available, dual, triple, and quad-DRM restrictions, games being released without appropriate optimization, incomplete season passes, abandonware, lack of appropriate discounts, and incompatible DLC gamers are becoming more and more frustrated. Developers keep buying into these practices because sales are going down and customers are responding with frustration and contempt.

Allowing multiple apps stores on iOS is priming the platform to go through the same thing. Now, I might be able to back something where software is sold as a key and it can be redeemed and transferred to other stores. But if consumers don't have a choice in what store they get it from (exclusives) and prices and DLC don't decrease, and DRM isn't removed or reduced, then it's not a solution I would support.
