White XL ordered

Get a free home mini with it so they actually care about customers rather than be arrogant Dick's

Loved the slight jab at companies with very colorful and unnecessary fluffy color names :)

Our phones come in: Slight Blue, Just Black, Clearly White.

Best joke of the evening if you ask me. Seemed like the tech journos there got the joke as well.

I have to say, I think that my gf and I are going to jump on the white XL as well. It's a good looking phone, and the always on screen is something I wish Apple had implemented on the X. The only thing we'll actually miss is iMessage, and being able to send from our MacBook Pro's. . .

Wow Google’s headphone jack adapter is £20. Let’s see who in the tech press complains about this or is their Google bias so strong that they’ll completely ignore no headphone jack and a £20 dongle.

Wow. In one keynote Google has DESTROYED Apple’s product line. Best smartphone, best Bluetooth earphones, best notebook AND tablet, best speakers.

Wow. You can imagine the crying going on at Apple’s supposedly legendary industrial design studio.

No gimmicks like Face ID, 3D Touch, Touch Bar, W1 chip, A11 Bullcrap chip, seamless and continuous industrial design between glass and metal, iWork and iLife bloatware crap, HomePod sound separation crap. Just beautiful technology perfectly married to beautiful design to make objects of modern art.

A11 bullcrap? None of what you say has any backing in reality.

It might be if you order it separately, but the phone comes with one, just like Apple.

I deplore the loss of headphone jacks but at least look at the specs:
  • Wireless HD audio with LDAC, Qualcomm® AptX™ and AptX HD™ audio codecs supported
At least you have lots of options for good quality Bluetooth, and not be forced into buying new "W1" or whatever Apple calls their solution.

Those first ones are codecs and the W1 is a bluetooth chip. Not sure why you are comparing them? They have nothing to do with each other.

Err... No you don't gotcha. I mean disable the personalised ads setting, then enjoy free storage.

Fear, of adverts. SMH.
Pretty sure you still get your data mined. Pixel has Samsung/Apple prices with little unique features/perks. This photo thing is neat but really it’s just to make ad money and to use your data for machine learning. I’d rather pay upfront rather than being the product. Of course there are people that deny how evasive google is but those people are either ignorant of the fact, don’t care, or believe Goog can do no evil.

Remember, if a company offers free stuff, you better believe your the cow they’re milking. Now that they seem to be adopting a premium model but still keeping their ad model should worry people. Your getting screwed both ways.

And no, I don’t fear adverts. I fear a company who’s been caught violating other companies tracking agreements, users tracking settings, etc knowing **** about me since clearly they have little morals in the pursuit of dollar.

Defending a company that ignores users choice and forces their practices on them, SMH.

$1000 for a Chromebook? To run Chrome Apps and Android Apps?

1000 on a MacBook to run apple apps? which most IOS apps are not avail there. most windows based stuff is not on MacOS either. since they both use intel hardware windows should be easily dual booted

yes they did - here is how it works: You hold your finger down on your ear and say "help me speak French,” and speak a phrase. When you lift your finger, the Translate app speaks and displays your translation. Then the person you're speaking to holds a button down on your phone and says their reply, which you hear in your ear. Let's be honest - this has nothing to do with the earbuds.
I'm gonna rewatch that part again.

The X is about the same size as the new Pixel 2 ( not the Pixel 2 XL). It has a 5.8 inch screen vs a 5.0 screen on the Pixel. It weighs more but has a higher resolution screen. The Pixel 2 is a very good phone but really can't match up with the X. It is less expensive but you are getting a large bezel phone. If there wasn't an Iphone X, the Pixel 2 would work great for me.

Those first ones are codecs and the W1 is a bluetooth chip. Not sure why you are comparing them? They have nothing to do with each other.
I'm comparing them as they are the value-added thing to sweeten the removal of the headphone jack. Apple added their proprietary W1 chip for better pairing. Google added aptX and LDAC. While I prefer my phone to have the jack, I'd be much more inclined to live with the latter.

Really another one with no headphone jack? It's a dongle filled future (and no bluetooth thanks, I dont want another thing to have to remember to recharge every day)
AirPods store 24 hours of charge. They last me a week or so of mixed use -- music in the gym, work calls during the day.

And I've never had to use the legacy headphones adapter. Not once. I did use the supplied corded Lightning headphones once or twice.

Google is in a very different business compared to Apple. It's still not clear to me that they actually intend to produce and sell as many phones as people would buy. I don't know why - by design, complacency, incompetence?

So you're right that if Apple sold 1 million iPhone 8s that'd be a massive flop, since they made a lot and want to sell a lot.

But if Google just doesn't care about it, or they specifically want to just sell a few - and makes only 1 million Pixels, it's hard to argue it's a flop...

I don't think that google doesn't want to sell more than a million phones. I think it's a supply chain issue as they are now just truly getting into hardware. Add on the fact that now everyone is starting to go to OLED's (including apple), I'd imagine simply sourcing at a large scale is pretty difficult.

With that being said, I think they'll produce many more Pixel 2's, and continue to get better at manufacturing more and more phones with each release. Sourcing components and manufacturing 10's of millions of phones isn't something you just pick up over night.

You really think your data isn't mind anywhere else? Are you actually shaking your head, gramps?
All companies in the mobile and cloud space care about profit. All will hoodwink you at any given chance. Don't pretend otherwise.
