Such a fun event to watch. Really impressive showing today by Google.

I already see a couple of people complaining about the lack of a dual camera? Guys, the camera has a DxOmark rating of 98. Come on now.

The Google Assistant features showed today are insane.

Might be decent quality, but that doesn't make up for the lack of a telephoto lens or lack of depth sensing capabilities.

I agree with you. Vote with your wallet. You know what? I agree that you should try new stuff? Are you heavily embedded in apple eco system?

Aside from 13 gb of music in iTunes, no. I’ve switched back and forth several times so it’s pretty quick for me. All my apps are available on Android and iOS. I’m also excited for the voice translation features for when I travel, I saw that you are curious about this as well. Has potential to be awesome. Are you also taking the plunge or sticking with iPhone?

I’d likely never switch from iOS, but I was interested to see what Google came out with here. Overall, not too impressed with the specs, not very good water resistance, no wireless charging, a bunch of Apple copied camera tricks (although the camera looks pretty good), a camera bump, no headphone jack, huge chins and bezels, and off the shelf parts like everyone else. I guess I don’t see what the sell is for people that prefer Android. I mean, isn’t a lot of this stuff what people have disliked about iPhones? Just sorta worse? I think Google is making the right call with mimicking Apple, but I just expected more.
Specs are good, standard flagship 2017.
Water resistance is same as Apple's.
Camera tricks are not copied from Apple. You might think that Apple invented everything including portrait mode, but you're wrong. Huawei did it before Apple, so you could say Apple copied camera tricks from Huawei. Plus, Google's HDR+ and EIS are quite original and spectacular.
The XL doesn't have huge bezels.
The software is just about special enough where it matters.

I don't think they're mimicking Apple at all. The Pixels look nothing like Apple's fashion tech, I'm sure on purpose - they're just tools designed to be as useful as possible, instead of socially signal how much money you're willing to throw away.

They'll sell well, particularly the XL model.

Wow. In one keynote Google has DESTROYED Apple’s product line. Best smartphone, best Bluetooth earphones, best notebook AND tablet, best speakers.

Wow. You can imagine the crying going on at Apple’s supposedly legendary industrial design studio.

No gimmicks like Face ID, 3D Touch, Touch Bar, W1 chip, A11 Bullcrap chip, seamless and continuous industrial design between glass and metal, iWork and iLife bloatware crap, HomePod sound separation crap. Just beautiful technology perfectly married to beautiful design to make objects of modern art.

This was sarcasm right? All the "crap" of Apple you speak of and yet they manage to have software that actually works, products that last, and they do all that without spying on you. If you really think all that stuff is "the best" just wait for it to get released and the months of waiting for a fix. Just ask anyone with an Android Wear Watch, or everyone with an original Pixel still waiting on fixes since day one.

simple looking back..

The mocking between Apple and Google is never-ending,, just like my statements :D

The translation feature is only mentioned in a sentence. I want to see how it works; sounds awesome. But why is it a feature of the earbuds and not the phone? That's odd.

As explained on daringfireball a couple weeks ago, the DXOmark rating system is deeply flawed. So I would probably discount the score until real world tests come through.

Okay o_O

DxoMark score is apparently 98.
Look for the IPhoneX to be the same as DxoMark continues to try and walk the fine line and make Samsung, Google and Apple all happy at the expense of thier own credibility.

Exactly, the rating system is extremely flawed.

What 'fix' are you talking about here? I'm a Pixel 1 owner... I haven't experienced any issues with the phone at all and updates have been fairly swift. I also have an Android Wear watch (Huawei Watch). haven't experienced anything needing a 'fix'...

Just ask anyone with an Android Wear Watch, or everyone with an original Pixel still waiting on fixes since day one.
I have two Android Wear Watches, will surely get a third one for Christmas, I'm utterly confused as to what you're talking about. What fixes?

PS: I have the original LG G, works fine but it's square, so I got an Asus ZenWatch 3, works fine but it's already a year old :D and I'm deciding between the new Fossil Diesel or the Huawei Porsche Design.

I have to check out x and pixel xl. I'm not in rush to buy one, but I do need one as my phone is barely surviving (6 plus).
However, I don't want to rush to buy anything and I'm heavily embedded to apple's eco-system as I have mac pro and
ipad pro 12.9. If Pixel xl is actually delivering what they announce, I would get it. It's the translator earbuds that made me push to their side. Although, pixel xl is ip67 and no wireless charging, I still can overlook it, but I just want to see the overall aspect of the device. It might be the first device that may break my eco-system. I noticed google is doing their eco-system like as well.

Pixel 2 removes headphone jack
"Makes sense"

Airpods 2 $159

Google Pixel Buds $159
"Cool!"

iPhone Rose Gold
"Ugly AF"
Pixel 2 Kinda Blue
"Ohhhh nice!"

The media definitely grades Google (and other Apple competitors) on a massive curve... they’re desperate for Apple competition because it’s great for them.

Imagine if Apple released the 8 and it looked like the Pixel 2? The media and customers would have crucified Apple.

Haven't seen the full keynote yet, but some details stand out to me that Apple should take a look at:

- They can do depth-of-field effects without requiring a dual camera. Why is Apple keeping that functionality from people who prefer the smaller iPhone?
- The Google BT earphones have a little touchpad that supports taps and swipes. Something like this is sorely needed for the Airpods (the tapping is limited to one action and doesn't even work reliably).
- The earphone translation feature sounds awesome (assuming it's implemented well). Should be possible for Apple to implement as well, given that Siri already supports translation to a handful of languages.

The rumored coming BlushGold version of the X, if anything like what we've seen so far, looks pukey to me.
Otoh, I've always looked forward to a real mid-blue color, more of the sparkling, metallicky variety.

Totally agree. Android fans would lose their minds if Apple released a phone as ugly and lame as this new Pixel. Instead they make excuses and go on about how it's totally cool. The double standard is ridiculous.

OMG look at the price of the HomePod. Insane and sooooo overpriced. Google releases their lamer speaker for $50 more. "Oh it's totally a fine price. Not overpriced at all."

Yeah the 10 phones they sell in the US will really bring down the iPhone :)

It may go that way.... (probably not), but we all know how quick things catch on...

It was only some time ago when Google mocked Apple for removing the headphone jack,, now Google has a taste of their own medicine..

Design would probably stay with Apple as always has, but i'm open to a sway in the seas.

I have to say, I think that my gf and I are going to jump on the white XL as well. It's a good looking phone, and the always on screen is something I wish Apple had implemented on the X. The only thing we'll actually miss is iMessage, and being able to send from our MacBook Pro's. . .

You'll be amazed how much you miss iMessage. I guarantee you'll want to come home to iOS within a month.
