i just got an iPhone 7 (4.7"), but not gonna lie, I'm liking the smaller 5" screen of the Google phone (the 7 plus is just to big imo, maybe next year Apple)

I would feel embarrassed pulling out a Google phone out of my pocket in public. I dunno, pulling out an iPhone just feels cool. Hard to explain this psychological phenomenon.

With a Google product, you feel yourself like a second-class citizen that lives in a third-world country. Whereas Apple products feel luxurious, it's like owning a Porsche, or like living in Switzerland or Monaco.

You sound like a really awesome person to be around /s

This is amazing news for Apple, as the Pixel is exactly the same price as the iPhone. This will help people justify a more expensive phone over on the Android side, and once they are talking 800 USD, they will start comparing it to the iPhone, making switching more likely.

I wonder how soon Google will allow other android phone makers to use "Google Assisstant" as its extremely impressive and accurate. I guess its like carrying an amazon Dot in your pocket.
It is largely connected to your Google account, not to a specific device. Services like Google Now and voice search have been available on any Android device for years, this is just a further development of that.

Well, I would like to debate your claim:

I find that Google Now hears more accurately sometimes, (with the exception of with Apple tvOS , where Siri has the highest accuracy, though they've limited her reach with the TV.)

On the other hand, I am going to assume you haven't used Siri much. Because I use both and no offense intended, but to say Siri is light years behind Google Now is almost laughable. I can't think of any thing that Google Now can do that Siri can't. I use Siri throughout the day to set alarms/timers, reminders (location based and time based), send texts, read me emails, answer basic questions about sport scores, weather, etc.. What are those capabilities that would put Google "light years" ahead????

Again, you might prefer one over the other, but Siri is very capable, and in some cases exceeds Google Now, e.g. sports. I'd encourage you to give Siri a try. It sounds like you might be surprised. . Here's a quick amateur video comparison from early this year, before Siri gained even more capability and Apple turned on natural learning, e.g., with mapping, such as telling you when to leave for appointments based on traffic, etc., and iOS 10.

Thing is, I do use Siri.

Siri's accuracy is much worse than Google's, but let's say that it's just me (it's not because I've tried with some other people). One week ago I went to Mt Rainier Ntl Park and wanted to check the weather. I was using an iPhone 5 at that time so I asked Siri. "Hey Siri, what's the weather like in Paradise, WA?". First time, it did not understand what I said. Next 4 times, it did understand but it gave the forecast for Washington, DC. I was driving, yelled "OK Google" and the Nexus sitting on the back seat wakes up. I ask the same question, and sure it does tell me the forecast for Paradise, in Washington State.

This is just one example. I can give you as many as you want. For me, Siri has been a frustrating experience. I surely wish it was way better since my iPhone 7 is coming either today or tomorrow, and I will miss Google Now A WHOLE LOT. To the point that I'm sure I'll just use the Google App instead of Siri.

I'll tell ya what....
Apple guy ALL the way; but "Instant Apps" is amaze!
I feel as excited about that as I was about FaceTime or TouchID, or the like... seems to be that type of app/feature that you learn to take for granted & wonder how you lived without!
I really really really hope Apple creates something similar!
How many times have we all downloaded an app just for a one time use??
Like a sports stadium app, tracking app for the one time you get something delivered by DHL, or Walgreens photo app when your normal place was closed or something... you do NOT want the hassle of d/l these apps to use once, then delete. It would be EPIC if you could d/l only the needed assets for your single interaction.. then it goes away.
VERY nifty!!!!
IMO, that was by far the coolest thing of the conference.
Okay, that does sound amazing.

You make some great points and you are probably right. It's very likely they are trying to upscale their phone to flagship prices. Why not? Considering Samsung has a huge success story by trying hard to match Apple and charging a premium for it. Why wouldn't Google try to do the same?

This would be an all new profit category for them. This may be an uphill battle for Google now (no pun intended) considering they were the ones that started a low cost mid-range phone but made little to no profit. Convincing the masses that a Pixel is worth the same as an iPhone or Galaxy phone will no doubt take time and a great refined product. Word of mouth is very powerful and convincing. It's a wait and see.

The Nexus brand were sold as developer tools, they weren't really ever intended to be anything to match other phones, the media span it that way though! So they weren't really fussed with little or no profits even if the handsets have been fantastic value.

I think these pixel devices lack the feature sets they should have for flagship Android devices, but yes this is the complete opposite market for Alphabet to aim for. I would rather just replace the outer casing and battery of my Nexus 5 though and keep it running. I may actually do that too as it's my backup phone, one of my favorite phones I've ever had, up there with the iPhone 4.

I feel really cool when I pull my iPhone out of my pocket and I see 8 year old kids with them too. First class citizen all the way.

My thoughts exactly :D

Depends a bit on where you live I guess, but in most of the Western world anyone with a job can buy an iPhone if they want. And it will be just be a tiny bit of their total expenses that year. Nothing you have to be rich or well off to do at all.

Heck, even most of my friends 10 year old kids have iPhones.

Show me? I'd really like to see these similar spec'd devices that you talk about for half the price. I'm sure you'll pull some Chinese phone up and say here you go. Seriously though, I have not found anything that's worth it's salt except maybe a One Plus phone but what I find is all these 'other' phones have too many cons that come with them. Those cons are usually in one of the following areas: screen, battery, camera, or quality.

I think you just believe that it's Android so therefore it "has" to be cheaper. And that's just not true.

It's Chinese but every cell phone is made in Asia so I'm not sure what your point is.

At that price....

No OIS
No waterproofing
No stereo speakers
No wireless charging
No dual lens cameras
No Iris scanner
No 3DT

No chance.

lol... glad were off to a good start. I have no use trying to converse with technology...... People are harder to understand.
