Got a scratch on my S6 screen already!

I know but for some reason some comments seemed to pop up where peoples said they had some previous AW models without scratched screen issue, so I was wondering if newer models like AW6 have some additional coating on the screen (like AR-coat or similar) that scratches easier? I know from my own experience with iPhones that screens became more "scratchable" sometime around iPhone 7 or so where I noticed that even wiping the screen with soft cloth seemed to cause faint scratches that show up in certain angle. So this is not the case with AW6 (aluminum), is it?

It will scratch if you drag it across metal, concrete, sandblasting media, etc. It will still work and you only notice the scratches at an angle with the screen off. It depends on you. If you work in an office and are careful your watch will remain perfect. This is my Apple Watch Series 4. It has been through hell and still works perfectly. Even with the screen like this you don't notice it unless you look close. If someone sees the watch on my wrist they can't see the scratches.

I have an AW6 but it's the stainless steel version so I can't speak about the aluminum one. I'm sure it'll be fine if you take care of it. If you're that worried get the stainless version but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra weigh and price. I got it because I heard so many people talking about it but I'm not sure I would buy it again. It's the same watch but different materials so maybe a bit tougher but I'm getting a new one in two years anyway.

OK. I'll put my hopes on the AW6 aluminum. I rather take lighter one like my current AW3 and never had issues with aluminum chassis in it. Just having hard time to select between leather loop vs Milanese loop. I guess leather loop is safer choice not to scratch the watch while it is off the wrist? Also I guess leather loop is more secure fit than leather link to prevent accidental drops in case it get stuck on the cuff or pocket a bit?

Any idea how color fast is the leather loop? I hope it will not stain color on my wrist or any object it rubs against?

I don't like those covering the case, I just want scratch protection for the screen.

I got my Spigen ProFlex EZ FIT for AW6 and it seems pretty nice and easy installation with tray.
Anyone here using these and how durable they are in long term?

Wondering about the glass used here ... I've had iPhones for years, and have not used a screen protector on the last several ... 10, now 11. No scratches. I never baby a phone like a watch either. Thought Apple uses the same glass on the aluminum AW's as the iPhones? The AW's glass seems to scratch easily.

It is probably just coating that scratches easily. I noticed that already with iPhone 7.

I've only read the first couple of pages but the same thing happened to me. I've owned every model Apple watch, always aluminium and I've never had a scratch. Within two days of receiving my launch day 6, I got a half inch scratch that was very visible on the glass. I genuinely have no idea how I got it.
I sent it back, received the refund and bought the graphite SS watch. Based on what happened, I'll probably always buy SS from now on.

Sorry for bumping up an old thread by my Series 6 Aluminum glass is scratching like crazy, I’ve owned the original and a Series 3 in the past and I’ve never had scratching issues… if I replace it with a stainless steel will I have this issue?

My sapphire screen shows no scratches after years of use, it is more prone to shattering under certain circumstances however. Best combo imho is the space black (graphite)/sapphire which still looks brand new after knocking it about countless times as a gigging drummer.

My Aluminum Series 6 has some small scratches but they aren't that noticeable. Even still with apple watches I know the screen is gonna get nicks and dings from every day use/wear. I got apple care plus for it, so if it gets too damaged I will just get a screen replacement.

Always had SS - SS0 SS2, SSSB3 SSG5. Had one Alu S4 and after a year it was not bad, but had 3-4 scratches (noticeable) on the screen and the shell. My SSG5 coming up to 2 years and looks like new.

However, I wouldn't say the Alu watches scratch 'easily', just more easily than Stainless.

I don’t know why people get so obsessed about scratches on watches to be honest. These devices are designed to be worn everyday and for a short period of time as they only last a few years. Wear them, use them and enjoy them. If you are the type of person that worries about the slightest bit of cosmetic damage, then pay twice as much for an AW with a sapphire display. I’d sooner put up with a few nicks that do that though as I don’t think £699 is reasonable for a smart watch, but that’s me.

Both the aluminium Apple Watches I have owned have escaped any scratches. I had a Series 2 for 3 years with perhaps one or two 2mm long hairline scratches that were only noticeable under very close inspection. My Series 5 is coming up to 2 years old now and no scratches at all. The aluminium watches are perfectly durable for everyday use unless you work or inhabit harsh environments.

I'm not against super expensive smart watches on principle/philosophy. However, we've got a still pristine Al S4 in the household and I've occasionally had my iPhone in the same pocket as my keys with no noticeable scratching. Hence, unless experience proves otherwise in terms of scratchiness, I'll stick to Al. If that gets dinged badly enough, then I'll just switch to Ti next gen.

I don't actually have any other watches. The only reason I'm wearing an Apple Watch is for activity tracking. If not for that, I prefer going with bare wrist and my cell phone for time. I dislike wearing jewelry in general.

Honestly not something I've really paid attention to. That said, every single Apple Watch I've seen at work or worn by family have the silicone sport band and I don't believe any were particularly glossy so I'm guessing most if not all are Al.

Like you said... most of people probably don't even know that the bands are exchangable and there are others than the one that comes with the watch
