Here’s the scratch on my Apple Watch Series 6. So fed up. It drives me nuts too because in day to day use I can’t see it then, the light will catch it and look as bad as it looks here. Also I have no idea how or when it happened with bugs me too. I’m tempted to sell it and buy stainless steel. I hate that I am so stressed and upset about something so unimportant instead of being grateful for having it at all. In the past I couldn’t afford bus fare to go to the shops to look at such things let alone afford to buy them. Need to get some perspective. Get a grip

Many of us warned people time and time again not to buy the aluminum, if scratches on the screen would be a problem. It happens very easy regardless of what some here say. You need to get a screen protector or get the stainless steel model.

That is a good size scratch and that would bother me as well.

Had the Series 2 for 4 years and hardly a mark on it, no idea how I managed that. I’ve no idea how I got that scratch either. You’d think for something to inflict that damage you’d know about it at the time.

Many people also own the aluminium watches and never scratch the screens. My series 5 hasn’t got a mark on it and it’s been worn daily. My series 2 was three years old and had perhaps 2 very light hairline scratches which could only be seen if purposely looked for. I don’t agree they scratch easily because that lacks context. They scratch easily if you smash them into a brick wall sure, but if you don’t abuse them they are perfectly fine for daily wear.

A screen protector would solve anyone’s issues. I have a Zagg ultra clear and you cannot even tell it’s on there. I peel it off and my watch looks pristine for trade-in when it’s time.

Interesting, one thing for me is that I swim a lot (well until recently!) would this be ok in and out of water lots?

That’s one of the reasons why I got a higher end model compared is the better glass. I really don’t get why apple doesn’t ship the same glass across the line up.

Before the days of sapphire glass or crystal every watch I have ever owned got small scratches here and there. I used to get rubbing compound and polish them out every so often. I’m not sure how it would work on the apple Ion-X Glass though. When I finally got watches with sapphire crystal which were higher end I rarely if ever got a scratch. One Rolex of 10 or so that I ever owned got one and at that you really really had to look close to find it.

I’m not sure if paying an extra 50% for stainless steel just so it doesn’t scratch is worth it. If it bugs you that much replace it when the new one comes out. I agree that you need to focus on it less but sometimes people get bugged by weird things. I always say nothing is perfect and if you look closely you’ll find imperfections. Whenever I get a new car I expect a door ding within a month. It’s going to happen so I just set my mind to this. If I took my car to the body shop every time it got a door ding I would be spending thousands every year. Here’s a picture I just took of my AW S4 for perspective. It still works perfectly and you really don’t notice all those scratches when it lights up. I’ve had my S6 Apple Watch for about a month now I guess. I’m not going to take a picture of that because I know if I do I’ll notice scratches. Think of it this way the scratches give it character and make it unique.

The same reason Apple doesn’t use stainless across the line up. It allows a more affordable model to be sold. I think this is also important for people that replace their watch every year. Some people would rather have the latest tech and don’t really care how pretty the housing looks.

I feel your pain. I recently scratched my new series 6 as well. It wasn't a matter of if, but when. That's why I bought AppleCare. It's only $3.99 a month. Once the first scratch sinks in, it will be easier to put OCD aside and enjoy the watch without babying it. If your watch is still eligible for Applcare I would buy it immediately. If you have an accident it will only be $69 for a brand new one.

That’s true and even those of us that replace our AW’s every 3 years don’t see the point in spending more than £400 on what is a disposable gadget. I like the look of the aluminium model too which adds to the appeal for me.

How closely do you follow Apple? (I’m asking rhetorically). Because they would never include sapphire across the sport model, it’s all about cost. And from what I read years ago when Apple released the watch, the Sapphire display was not easily manufactured, which is probably why they produce it in smaller batches for the more ‘premium models’, which are far less popular compared to the sport model that sells probably what, 90% of their volume?

Fair enough point

I’d rather they left sapphire off the aluminium watches if it means keeping costs down for the consumer. Sure it would be nice to have that extra quality, but for me it’s not an important enough feature to justify an increase in price. I think you’re right the sport models are probably a huge percentage of the overall sales and the reason for that is because they are priced competitively. I think you have to be really in love with the product to want to spend £600+ on a smart watch when ultimately the functionality is approximately the same.

I have not noticed any scratches on my new Series 6 aluminum version (and I don't want to look too closely either). However, I bought Apple Care for mine. Does anyone know if I get a noticeable scratch on mine, if it is covered by Apple Care?

Scratches are not covered as they are considered wear and tear. Here is the full document on what is covered and further down the page under exclusions, what is not covered..

Thanks for the replies and comments, really appreciated. I had a Series 2 and bashed that about and it got some scratches and I was ok with them. At the time I did the damage I may have said "gosh darn it" (or something like that) but then wasn't bothered. I think this time it has got to me so much because the scratch is deep; I don't think I could do it if I had a knife or something, but how or when did it happen? I have knocked the Series 6 about a little bit, caught it on door handles etc but have known and checked for damage. I can't think of anything I do or come in to contact with that I could have done this with. Time to move on and forget about it. Thanks to all for the replies

I just came here to talk about same. I had my Series 6 blue aluminum version since Sept 25th. I noticed this morning that there are a couple of scratches on the screen but you REALLY have to look and be in the right light. I am not sure where they came from. I been careful but there have been some small incidents where they could have happened. I have apple care ( but that doesn't cover scratches). Honestly, I can't really tell scratches are there 98% of the time so I can deal with it. I should have listened though and gotten a screen protector LOL.

Also one of the reasons I didn't get one of the higher end models is just because I am on a budget lol. I can't really justify dropping 800-1,000 on a smartwatch at the moment. So 530 bucks for the 44 MM GPS/Cellular was enough for me.

Here in this pic I just took while at work, you can see one of the scratches at the bottom of the screen. There are more nicks on the right hand side of the screen, but like I said you really have to look. Not sure where they came from though. Maybe me tossing and turning while wearing the watch while sleeping?? LOL I guess I can deal with it.

it's not terrible but enough to be noticeable!
Have you tried the microfibre and hot breath fix?

Put a little huff of air and elbow grease with the microfibre. Many scratches are just markings from whatever hit the watch. I rubbed mine down a brick wall. It had a 'deep' scratch until I rubbed it out. Lucky for me the brick just marked the glass. It was much more difficult to rub off than expected, but 10 minutes of moderate pressure and hot breath got it back to new.

Scratches can’t be removed off the Ion-X glass. And believe me, I’ve been participating on this Apple Watch forum for four years and it’s permanent. Your best option, is to find a quality screen protector and it will conceal the scratches, thus also preventing further scratches

Here my little battlescar. Courtesy of hitting it on the corner of a shelf at the grocery store. Luckily the light has to hit it just right to be this visible.

I’m ordering AW6 (aluminum space grey) and wondering if the screen or aluminum case is as durable as in my current AW3? I see often peoples complaining scratched screen on relatively new AW6 so I’m wondering if the screens are like in newer iPhones that they get light scratches more easily than older phones did?

My current AW3 is just over three years old and the case is like new without scratches on space grey aluminum but screen has just about identical scratch as in the photo in the previous message but for me it took like 2.5 years until I got that and even then it happened when I accidently hit my watch hard on the metal pole with sharp edges and I was actually amazed that screen did not crack and only this small scratch happened. So in case AW6 is still the same I’m fine with it but if it is like the iPhone screens these days they scratch from the touch even pretty fast I guess I need some kind of screen protecor with it. Please post your experiences especially compared to older models like AW3 if you had one how the two compare?

It should be the same screen. You can’t go by complaints because people are going to complain about anything. If you get the stainless steel it comes with the Sapphire screen. I have a S4 aluminum and a S6 stainless. I haven’t scratched the S6 yet but I’m also very careful with it unlike my S4. If I’m going to do something I know could scratch the screen I wear my S4.
