Same experience.. looked like mine was used when it arrived - return it, I did.

I also agree the damage I saw was a result of one of three things..

a) it was in the factory before it shipped
b) apple's new box design is bad and allows components to touch during shipping.
c) someone returned it

I've had plenty of stuff shipped fedex and never seen damage like this.. my macbook box was markless - but the machine inside was damaged - that's not shipping company fault imo.

It did look like someone returned it

First of all the packaging was damaged, from the box it looked like someones second hand laptop. Didn't bother about that, and unpacked the laptop to find a slight dent at the bottom, there was also a little scratch on the lid. The power adapter looked used as well. There were scratches on the brick of the adapter and the magnetic bit also had some black marks which were not coming off. The power adapter could be replaced straight away but now i have to wait another 2 weeks for a laptop replacement.

Verry verry disappointed, this was my first mac for which i paid £2500 expecting the best quality laptop and all i got was a laptop full of blemishes. Might ask them to give me a full refund.

Its called shipping. Bad stuff happens in shipping. Apple isn't going to give you some dented up laptop. I've spent enough money with them I know.

Agreed. I've ordered/bought Apple computers for just over 10 years now... Never once have they done something like that. And only once have I had one of the boxes damaged in shipping. The computer itself was unharmed, and it happened once over just more than 10 years. But it does happen, sadly.

This was bto, i have already waited 2 weeks without laptop and now i ll have to wait an extra 2 weeks. I knw apple will sort it out but it shudnt happen in the first place

But... It does. Welcome to real life. Luckily for you Apple is a company that will step up and make it right. Even if it might cause you a delay. Be thankful you arent just stuck with the one you got. THAT would be unfair.

Er I don't believe this. Dirt that you had to scrape off? I don't think so. Nice try though.

A shipping company wudnt open the laptop and put some dirt and a couple of scratches on it. This is definitely from the factory

Lol why wud i come up with such an absurd complaint. Believe it or not thats what it had and i had to use a surface cleaner to take it off properly

I don't know why you would be calling bs on this.. I posted about it a few days ago as well.. there was caked up junk around the dent in the machine I received. That said, it came via MacMall, so maybe it was a customer return from them..

Still to call someone a liar when you have no evidence that they are in fact lying.. it ridiculous.

I'd guess more posts about strange things are real than trolled.

Someone joins just to post this? He says he will just buy another power supply? Perhaps he is not telling us everything. Did he buy it new from Apple? Damage in shipping is one thing but all of the other things he is saying doesn't compute, unless someone switched the machine on him. Believe it if you want to, but I don't.

Where did you order it from?

Read the post properly. Ididnt say i ll buy a new power supply. I ssid it can be easily replaced but exchanging the laptop will mean waiting another two weeks
. Anyway never mind, it was a bad idea to share my bitter experience with people who absolutely adore this company

It really shouldn't. It's appalling how some FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. employees throw these things around. They'd be pissed if someone did it to their items, but they don't even think about doing it to others'.

I don't think UPS or Fed Ex did this..."There were scratches on the brick of the adapter and the magnetic bit also had some black marks which were not coming off."
Sound like factory BS to me.

How can you be so sure that it was the delivery company's fault. The scratch on the lid and the dirt on the laptop was definitey there before it left apples factory

I find it highly unlikely that a unit would ship with dirt on it. Computers are created in a fairly clean environment. There is less than a .01% chance that QA at apple would let a bad unit through. And if a unit was in a damaged box, then the box would be replaced at the very least. While it is sad to purchase an item and it is ruined when it gets to you, why are you saying that here? Did you create an account just to rant?

Talk to an apple employee, send it back, and I guarantee there will be none of this alleged "dirt" on the computer. Now can we close this thread and talk about something productive?

It was not a bad idea. There just happens to be all kinds of people in this forum. I feel bad for your situation and please let us know if/how Apple helps you with this mess.

If they post a photo of a box with little/minor damage, and an utterly destroyed, muddy computer inside as described, I'll eat my words. Until then, it likely didn't happen that way and something was left out, or added. Like....

...said, it didn't happen that way. A computer in that condition would never make it off the line. The way assembly works in the factory makes it absolutely impossible. Period. If one reads up on how it's done not just at Apple, but in any electronics assembly plant, that would be easily understood. I'm not saying it never arrived in that condition. But either the circumstances are exaggerated, or it wasn't ordered direct from Apple as someone else suggested, and rather was sent from a third party in said condition. Or the most likely, as happens to MANY people and is well documented, it happened one way or another in shipping. Even getting a tore up "return" is unlikely, as all items sent back to Apple are went over with a fine toothed comb, to determine their fate, if they'll be refurbished, recycled, etc.

It just sounds fishy and I am not saying on your part. I have bought several Apple laptops over the years and the packaging is always impeccable.

Mine have always arrived double boxed with crush proof corner spacers the actual product box inside a bag and all the components sealed in that clear cellophane wrapping that Apple uses. It just seems weird that it could come off a clean assembly line wrapped and sealed in the cello with dirt and dents.

I use an authorized repair/reseller whenever I have issues with an Apple product they can take in warranty repairs and usually turn things around in a day or so.

My BTO 15" came via UPS too (UK) and the outer cardboard box looked like someone had taken a machete to it and then decided to stamp on it for good measure. Luckily the box inside and my MBP were somehow unharmed. If any of the internals end up breaking due to it being tossed around then I suppose my free 3 year applecare will take care of that.

Dell makes cheap crap with no service or support. But they ship just like Apple. So no difference there. Are you saying this was a build to order from Apple? You aren't very clear on the details...which is interesting..

This was a custom order so buying from the store wasnt an option. My previous dells never got damaged in shipping.

Courier company's handling of packages is pathetic.

The consumer needs to complain to the company's much more, then it wouldn't happen as much. People are too busy to complain about all the bad service nowadays and too forgiving to mistakes like this that's how they get away with it I guess.

There's another possibility here. That box goes through a fair number of hands.
A) At some point it was cleared by Customs. Obviously they don't look at every package, or even open every shipping container. But agents allowed to open anything they want and look at it. Some bad-apple (not to paint the entire department badly) may have taken the opportunity to give a new MBP a spin. Was the delivery later than you had expected?

B) Once off-loaded from the shipping container it would have gone through several warehouses. Any one of those places may have had a curious employee who opened the box and tried it out.

Just saying....

Why would someone sign and accept a damaged package?

A guy from the UK just posted about getting his new MacBook Pro and the keys were falling off the keyboard!! Looks like you aren't the first UK buyer that is having these kind of problems with a damaged unit during shipment.

Ever heard of BS?

If you know how Apple laptop keys are made, you would know that keys will not "fall off" without actually prying force.
