I can confirm that the Costco here in Northern California (South City) has them. They had A TON of them (at least they had a bunch of the voucher things you bring up to the counter).

You have to be a Costco member to get the discounted iPod though, right?

I'm a Publix employee and got my 32GB iPod touch for $281 ($300.67 w/ 7% FL tax). Had to buy it at the Apple online store though to receive the discount.

If you have a friend who can buy you Costco gift cards, you can use that to buy the iPod without a Costco membership. But in that case, it might be easier to just ask him to buy the iPod for you and you'll pay him back :)

Went to Costco in Tigard, OR on Tuesday 9/7 and they said perhaps next week. I went back today, and no new touch's.

Went to Costco in Wilsonville about 5 miles away and they had them in stock. The display was small and ghetto-looking, and the cardboard you bring to the register had a black and white photocopy of the iPod touch 4th gen with the barcode taped to it.

There was only one such cardboard for a 32GB, so I snatched it up and hurried to the register. Did not note if 8 or 64GB models were in stock, since I wanted the 32GB. They were not immediately noticeable. Paid for and received my 32GB touch.

It appeared like the Costco worker who took my cardboard ran off to return the one cardboard to the display. That suggested to me that stock was limited, although that is purely speculation. Price was 279.99, and no sales tax in Oregon :).

Yeah, I think so. That's still a good deal. You save around 20 or so bucks. Best Buy or the Apple Store would be 299.99 + tax.

Kinda happy I saw this thread. My parents have a Costco membership.

Confirmed here. He said the 8GB which they haven't got yet will cost $179! I got a 32GB as they just had the 32GB and 64GB (+$100).

For those of you that were at Costco, how was the stock of iTouch (sorry, I still call it the iTouch). Were there long line-ups to get one?

Didn't notice lines for the touch. Just people with big carts of stuff (normal shoppers). Per my post above, it appears stock was limited. I did not ask how much they had in the storeroom though.

Thanks....I read that in your post, but the guy couldve been doing that for many reasons.

I'm trying to get a feel for the supply (and demand) right now before I go outside of state to get a touch @ Costco. We need one for our trip in a few weeks. I would imagine the more rural Costco's would have different inventory.

Were there many ppl buying the touch?

I was the only one at the case. I don't even think people know. BTW: They still had the old nanos and classics next to the touches. I asked the guy if they were the new ones and he said. "Yes, 4th gen just in today, but no 8GB yet." I asked him how much and he said same price, $179.

The 8GB will be 214.99. $179 is a mistake I think, or the previous gen. BTW, the 4th gen touch is not yet available at NY Costcos.

Just a warning: your Costco might have them in stock, but are telling you that they don't have it because they want to sell the 3G iPods first. This is what happened at my Polaris, Ohio Costco.

If you go to Costco.com, you can search for your local Costco and then click "new items in the warehouse" to see if they carry the iPods. This inventory is updated daily. Here's my Costco for example, which indicates that they got the 4G iPod yesterday:
http://www.costco.com/InTheWarehouse/Detail.aspx?whsNo=632

I went to Costco today and searched for the iPod cardboard placeholders to bring to the register. They only had cardboard for the 3G version. I got one anyway and brought it to the register, asking them if I can buy the 4G instead. The cashier called over a manager, who told me that they don't have it yet. I replied that their updated website inventory says otherwise, but he repeated that they don't have it.

I was frustrated but I refused to buy the 3G. I was going to leave when I decided to walk over to the locked area where they keep all the electronics. A stack of iPod 4Gs was sitting right there next to the 3Gs!!! I was furious! I asked the employee there why I can't buy the 4G. She called over another manager, who said that they want to sell out all their 3G inventory first before selling the 4Gs. I told them this was idiotic since Costco can return merchandise back to the manufacturer for whatever reason (this is why they have that great return policy), but the manager refused to sell the 4G to me. He said to come back next week, they'll probably sell out all the 3Gs by then. I said screw that, I'll just wait for my Amazon order.

I'm so mad!!

$214.99 sounds more likely for the 8GB...when I saw the $179 price I about fell out of my chair.

MacAttack11: that's ridiculous! Who is going to buy a previous-gen model for close to the same price when the new ones are out?

My local Costco does not show that they have received any iPod Touch 4th-gen units on costco.com, although one 140 miles to the west has them. :p I called anyway, and they told me that they aren't being released to them for another week.

So definitely YMMV.

Bought mine today at Costco in NC

I called my Costco warehouse in Greensboro, NC to see if they had the new 4th Generation 32GB iPod Touch, and the woman on the phone told me that they had 11 in stock. I drove over and didn't see any on display or any of the cardboard merchandise pick up cards, so I went to the merchandise pick-up desk and asked if they had any in-stock and she looked it up and gave me the product ID, to take to a register to purchase it. After purchasing, I returned to merch pick-up and got my new Touch, without a problem.

I recommend asking at Merchandise Pick-Up, if you don't see any on display in the electronics section. Also, the warehouse I visited did not have any iPods on the sales floor, so I didn't have any problems with them wanting to sell older models before releasing the new ones. I assume they just hadn't gotten around to putting them out on display yet, or they know the die-hard fans will ask, since they only had 11 (now 10) in stock. Good luck!

By the way, I didn't ask about the 8GB or 64GB, so I don't know if they had any of those in stock or not.

He seemed to know what he was talking about and said it will cost the same. I am going to return and rebuy if it's true.

The downside of an outside purchase is if you do not buy from apple directly you may not get the same warranty or guarantees that apple offers with their products. Few years back apple refused to fix an ipod because it was not purchased directly from them but and outside source, for instance best buy. I may be wrong.

Doesn't look like any of the Costcos in Seattle area have them :( Kinda sucks considering we are Costco's home base.

I've already ordered a case, guess I will just have to wait a week. As thin as it is, I really don't want to be carrying it around unprotected.
