Give it about a year for many of them (especially male members) to pop out of their deep denial as to their actual perceived color. They'll be just like the 6 Plus to 6s switchers, finally admitting that the 6 Plus is annoyingly big and at times uncomfortable to use (or in this case, the rose gold iPhone being too pink for their taste). Female owners are less likely to be affected though, judging from the many happy responses in this thread.
Oh yeah, the second a new color comes out in the 7, these "copper" phone owners are jumping ship. guarantee. But hey, it is a huge purchase. I get why they don't want people to question it.
That's a good explanation. There are a few members who are convinced that the rose gold aluminum AW isn't the same hue as the rose gold iPhone, but this seems unlikely to be the case. More likely, it's just the difference in how the light is reflected, as you pointed out. Under some conditions, the rose gold aluminum AW can look more pink like below:
