For ordinary scrolling, the difference will be very minor. It’s not like scrolling was laggy before.

Hardcore gamers may notice a difference, or film buffs who watch a lot of 24fps videos.

I suspect that many people who claim to see a big difference are really experiencing a placebo effect.
Lol no. The difference is massive. Absolutely huge. It’s actually bewildering to me that some people can’t tell the difference.

LOL wow. No, it's definitely different on the 13 PM. New iPhones already run smoothly, but this variable refresh rate makes scrolling so much smoother. it's definitely an upgrade, even over the 12. I have the M1 iPad Pro as well and 120hz doesn't look as smooth as it does on the phone....

Yeah it’s the OLED effect. If the iPads were OLED it would be more impressive in terms of blur reduction.

It’s definitely noticeable. BUT I don’t think it’s as impressive or exciting as hoped solely due to the fact that the touch input on last year’s phones was already 120Hz and with the super smooth animations kinda felt like 90Hz…

The difference is massive to me. It was the only real reason I upgraded. Everything is so ridiculously smooth on the 13 Pro, it's easily the smoothest device I have ever used. 60hz + OLED screen = looked very choppy to me even compared to a standard LCD screen.

That said, people perceive framerates and refresh rates differently so it's not surprising to me that some people can't really tell the difference.

Given some people don’t see the difference that’s clearly true. A couple of days in and I still find it magical.

Clearly some people don't even know what they're looking for.
Saying they can't see the difference in comparison in YouTube videos, viewing it on their 60Hz monitor at 60FPS and the youtube video's framerate being 30 FPS? lol

The difference is night and day. Scrolling is much SMOOTHER. I take it that those people who can't tell the difference haven't played video games seeing the difference between 30 FPS and 120 FPS. Or they've never owned a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60 Hz.

S21 ultra does variable refresh rate from 10hz to 120hz
Pretty sure one of the major tech sites tested and the screen actually rarely went below 60hz and actually didn’t vary almost at all. The reviewer stated it might actually not be accurate if what it really does. I haven’t tested myself so can’t say and I don’t intend to as have no interest in using android.

If that wasn’t the case, you would perceive a fluorescent light as a flickering hell - not as a steady beam of light.
Fluorescent lights flicker at 50Hz (60Hz in North America & Japan). While some people suffer from high refresh rate disorder and cannot tolerate fluorescent lights, most humans have no such issue because they can’t distinguish anything above 48Hz anyway.

It's worth noting that light bulbs aren't alternating between 0% and 100% 60 times a second. The light dims between each refresh cycle but doesn't have enough time to go completely off. CRT monitors, on the other hand, dimmed enough between refreshes that most people could perceive a flicker at 60hz that could be remedied by setting the monitor refresh rate to 75hz.

You don't see said flicker on LCD or OLED screens at 60hz because the pixels do not dim between refreshes.

But even without the flicker, the extra frames per second in the animations is obvious. It's why games at 60FPS look way better than games at 30FPS (which looks outdated now) and games running at 120FPS look even better.

(disclaimer: film and television still look best at the standard 24fps though).

Just got mine, 120hz is soooo great, my X seemed smooth but this is smooth af. Though, if you enable 60hz mode it’s way worse than 60hz on X.

I’ve had my 13 pro max for almost a week, it didn’t take more than 10 seconds to see what an improvement in screen quality it is. Even coming from a 12 pro max.

I can understand someone saying “I don’t care”, but I don’t understand how someone could not notice the difference.

I noticed the difference. It makes a difference. I'll probably get use to it after a while and not be able to look at older phones. Much like going from 30fps to 60fps on consoles.

After a week or so, you know where I really notice ProMotion? Using Apple Pay. I'm a regular AP user, and the payment animations--especially selecting the correct card--look notably smoother to me. I don't notice ProMotion everywhere, but really do here

Some people can't see the difference in screen frame rate, having said that the difference is not as noticeable on iPhones compared to bigger screens. Also, iPhones are already smooth af.
Two important people in my like bought the 13 pro. Did they care about 120z or 1000 Nitz, or upgraded camera? Nope 👎🏽 “it looks better.”

If you can't tell the difference, there's no point in getting the 13 PM or Pro. Some people just do not have the ability to see 120hz. You're better off saving your money and getting the regular 13.

I barely see a difference with the new 120 Hz Promotion refresh rate…
Am I alone?
I didn’t really notice it consistently until I looked back at the 60hz iPhones and then back to the 120hz. It’s pretty trippy how choppy the 60hz looked, and I almost thought there was a bug on my 60hz models.
