The soap opera effect sucks because they aren’t real frames the TV makes them up, real high frame rate is better because the frames are made up by AI.

Yes it’s fake and it won’t be perfect until such source is higher frame rate. I don’t mind it some TVs does the interpolation better.

I think it differs from person to person. Some people just don’t perceive/notice things like refresh rate. For me, I definitely notice (and feel) it a lot on the iPhone. I also notice it on my iPad Pro, but not as much as on my iPhone. I don’t notice it on things like TVs and monitors, but I know there are people that do.

it just depends.

It’s miles better than iPad ProMotion. Why? Because OLED already gives you that fantastic instant pixel response. Now you double the frame rate and the difference is otherworldly. I have an M1 iPad Pro right here to compare to, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max is noticeably sharper when scrolling text. Don’t get me wrong, I love the iPad Pro’s smoothness, but there’s no comparison which looks better - iPhone 13 Pro. I can much more easily read text when scrolling on the phone than the iPad. It’s just dream-like on the iPhone.
100% facts

Side by side comparing it with my 12 Pro I can tell a difference. For me it isn’t night and day, but if I’m being more attentive I can see it, which is nice.

I see a pretty big difference. Its so ultra smooth now and I love it. Whites are also much whiter and the screen is much brighter. Its the ultimate iPhone (13 Pro Max)

If only it was thinner, no notch, and weigh less with the same battery life as now. Otherwise I love everything about it coming from 12pro max. The screen is a huge upgrade for me.

Improvements can always be made for sure. But I don’t have a yellow tint to my screen anymore, and the promotion is just so so nice. The phone absolutely flies and the camera is incredible. I couldn’t be happier with it.

Yes the screen is definitely cooler in temp. It looks more vibrant.

Just tried it in apple store London and 13 pro max is buttery smooth very obvious difference when doing messages scrolling etc

I had a second look just to make sure I wasn’t being harsh or having unrealistic expectations

this time I mostly looked at 13 pro instead of max. Promotion much more noticeable vs it’s larger counterpart in a few units. Either my eyes or the regular pro feels faster due to software or some panel difference. Any one else?
Actually decently impressed with 13 pro panel promotion smoothness tbh. Partially Eating my words.

still on 12 pro for now :D maybe if a jailbreak comes out for a version that can be found on the units sold at time of, AND I can trade my bill credit 12 pro for $640 and still get credits I’d be a lot more tempted. Then just decide mini or 13 pro haha. I think pro max is out for me it’s too unwieldy still and heavy IMO

Just did a side by side demo of 60 vs 120hz promotion scrolling on a website to see if my wife could tell the difference.

I just said look for a difference; didn’t mention the refresh rate.

She couldn’t see anything different at all. I have a feeling this is for diehards only. I can take it or leave it.

For my eyes between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 13, I didn’t see a difference either. Of course I don’t scroll very fast and I read at a normal speed, so when I do scroll I can’t see anything earth shattering or even different. Promotion was a waste for me but maybe for others. The only thing worthwhile was the camera but that was not enough to upgrade so I sent mine back and I will wait for the iPhone 14 which should be hopefully a nice upgrade.

For ordinary scrolling, the difference will be very minor. It’s not like scrolling was laggy before.

Hardcore gamers may notice a difference, or film buffs who watch a lot of 24fps videos.

I suspect that many people who claim to see a big difference are really experiencing a placebo effect.

I know everyone will have a different reaction, but I notice the higher refresh rate for any motion on the screen, and it is significant for me. I’m digging it. I agree with others that this is more noticeable on oled than on the iPads.

i haven’t traded in my 12pro yet. Side by side, the blur effect on the 12pro is easily noticeable. Not bad, just more blur than the 13pro.

I also tend to fall into the category of folks that see the modulation on cheap LED Christmas lights too, so it’s one of those things that is borderline irritating to me when it blurs/pulses.

why haven't you traded in the 12 pro out of curiosity? just making sure everything performs as expected for a while before safely parting with it?

I think its good practice period, tbh.

the mail in trade in terrifies me.
I’d always do in person

then again I’m phobio-phobic
Haha, I prefer pickup with in-store trade in too, but it wasn’t available for the model I wanted at the Apple stores near me. Best Buy didn’t work either, because it wouldn’t preauth my T-Mobile account.

It does feel a little smoother with the 13 Pro Max versus the 12 Pro Max. If that’s enough to upgrade it would depend on your budget and if you even care about that. Also battery life has improved noticeably but again that may not matter for some people. My upgrade over the 12 cost a little over $400 after tax, screen protector and case. Was it worth it? I think so because I like it. Was it necessary? Absolutely not, my 12 was working just fine.
