I made the changes.

But make sure you do your research on your data usage, but beware to check your bill and monitor it.

I changed it and they added 40 bucks to each line when I was quoted with a certain amount.. 5 lines for 170. And my AT&T bill was ridiculous high than what I expected.

On the 10GB and higher mobile share plans, If you've upgraded your phones after 2/1, the line associated with that phone will be $40 per month. If you upgraded your phone(s) on 2/1 or before, the lines will be $15 per month.

If it is anything other than that, AT&T has messed something up on your account.

Does anybody still have the grandfathered unlimited data from AT&T?
I still do but I've been finding myself tempted to switch to the new mobile share.
Mainly for the tethering to my iPad Air.
Has anybody done this yet? Thoughts?

Really look at that 10GB mobile share. I don't believe its work it as those $15 a month phones will go to 40 when you upgrade (unless you buy the phone outright).

Could you imagine trying to go through the extra 5gb at edge speeds?

The speeds are much faster than edge. And I can imagine it, as one person on my plan used 15 GB on their unlimited line this month. Add in other lines as well and I'm going over 20 GB a month.
So in my case the choice is easy. As others have said it is easy to see your usage history online.

I didn't know the on or after 2/1, but all I was concern with my quoted amount.

And when I looked at my bill to see how they charged for each individual line.. I called.

They had me on the phone for about an hour and a half, but they credited me the right amount.

AT&T blamed it on their own end, but I didn't upgrade any of my lines after 2/1.

Anybody know (firsthand) if you can drop back down to the 4gb plan from the 10gb plan? Right now I would save money by moving my 2 out of contract phones and one upgrade eligible line, but not if I update or add lines later on...

Good point to clarify for people.

The $25 discount on 10GB or higher mobile share lines goes away for 24 months if you do a subsidy upgrade. $25 x 24 + $200 = $800 for a $650 phone. :(
Discount stays using the NEXT program or buying outright.

No, trading in under the NEXT program isn't the best idea (you can get more selling it yourself), but you don't have to do that if you don't want to. Pay off the financing early and go get a new phone. Sell the old phone yourself and put the proceeds back into savings.

Well happy to report that after much consideration from your posts, I have officially switched to Mobile Shared Plan. My bill with my 25% discount looks to come to be $105 a month for 10Gb and 2 lines. Not bad!

could be his employer... I get a 23% discount through my employer.

That's true, I was just curious because we have military discount with AT&T and they gave us 15% off and we have 2 lines both with iPhones and we pay $160 a month. We were grandfathered in with the unlimited data and we have 700 minutes, with like 4000 rollover minutes lol but I recently talked to ATT about their new plans and I would actually be paying more if I switched over...so I was curious how he got his plan for $105...

Anyone know if you can switch to a mobile share plan mid-contract?

Basically, I'd like to add an iPad to my plan and wouldn't mind paying a bit more for the months remaining on the contract, but don't want to sign a new one either. 10GB data shared between my phone and an iPad for $125 actually sounds like a good deal.

Gotcha. Yeah, for some it works out to be cheaper to stay on grandfathered plans

You'd get 10GB and unlimited data for $115. That would go up by $25 per line that you upgraded, so depending on how often you want to upgrade you could actually save money.

I know that the mobile share plans don't really work out compared to the old subsidized plans for folks who upgrade every year or even every other year, but most of the people in my family keep their phones until they die. I typically upgrade every two years, but knowing the real cost of upgrading will most likely cause me to hold on to my phone just a little bit longer.

Anyone know if you can switch to a mobile share plan mid-contract?

Of course you can switch. Anyone on a standard plan who upgraded prior to 2/2 can switch to any of the 10GB and higher Mobile Share Value plans and each phone is only $15 a month.

Yeah for people who don't upgrade it might be a good deal...we like to upgrade our phones every other year so I think it might be best to stick with the plan we have now...

With the quick math in my head, the break even point between the plan you have and the new plan would be upgrading every ~29 months. So yeah, upgrading every other year, your current plan is cheaper.

Do it.

You'll won't regret it at all.

I did it because I knew I wouldn't regret it.

:D

Seriously -- it's a personal decision. Look at your past data usage. Consider realistically how your usage might change in the future. Model the costs and expectations and see whether it makes sense for your specific usage pattern.

Hahahahaha. Good one.

Ive had my 25% discount since 2008 when my friend was a manager at AT&T and put my account as a USPS employee. Thank god I still have it.

Even though I was holding onto my unlimited, I looked at my usage and I never even hit 3 Gbs. Most I hit was 5 and that's because I didn't have cable internet at home for a month lol. But I figured between my mom and I who never uses internet, it'll be useful more now specially for tethering to my new iPad Air. I was gonna get cellular but I went this route instead.

Everyone is measuring needs based upon today. I have to believe data usage will increase into the future.

Just downloading magazines and other items eats chunks.

I would never give up unlimited until ATT drops it.

Even being throttled. You can still load basic web pages ok with edge like speeds. Emails and texts are fine.

Just the multi media stuff that gets annoying with the slow down.

Data definitely going up in use and not that long from now. Why give up unlimited for 10gb. For now the unlimited plans are safe. Remember 10gb is divided by 4 or 5 phones on the plan so it's really 2 gb each

I pay $30 for my unlimited and $30 for my wife's 3GB plan. Not going to spend another $40 for the 10GB share program.

Turns out this plan isn't worth it for me at this point in time.

Sure, my bill will only go up by $5 and I'll have a 10GB cap instead of a 4GB one, BUT!! I'll lose the ability to buy an iPhone 6 subsidized when it comes out. At this point it makes more sense to stick with my current plan, pay the same amount for less data (I never hit 4GB anyway) and get a nice subsidized iPhone 6 come September (or whenever it comes out)
