Apple has all the possible plans listed on their website. They made me confirm my wireless account to see if I was due for an upgrade; I thought it might possibly register my data plan and make that an option on the site for me.

At any rate, the first employee worried me because if AT&T were to cut unlimited plans, they might get Apple a heads up as people would be complaining to them about it when the option wasn't there when they're preordering.

Highly highly doubt it.
You will see.

I'm grandfathered, eligible for upgrade now, and have my fingers crossed for Friday night preorder. I went from iPhone 3G to iPhone 4 in 2010, to a Samsung Galaxy S3 (LTE unlimited then) in 2012 and had no problems keeping my unlimited plan.

In the same boat though -- remove my unlimited, and T-Mobile starts looking a lot more attractive price-wise.

My usage is generally less than 2gb, and I'm considering moving to the Next 12-month plan maybe next year, but until then, it's still a better deal to keep unlimited plan.

Good news.

Highly highly doubt it.
You will see.

Mind me asking how did you get it to show on your cart on the apple site? Thanks.

um sure. You just go through the process of buying a phone with the 5S..

1)Pick Color
2) Carrier and price
3) Select existing customer and upgrade..
4) Type in your info..
5) Select the purchase option
6) Processing..
7) Select accessories if not add phone to cart..
7) Phone is added to cart
8) cart summary appears and plan data.

Ok gang. I went on the Apple website to select my phone to get an idea of what it would cost. I want the 6 Plus, 64gb. $399 with a two year plan. However, I know I'm in contract with them so I knew I'd be paying full price. When I got further along it said I'd have to pay $849 today or wait until Sept. 21 and pay $649. Crazy to have to wait 9 days to save $200 so I decide to call AT&T. They said that there was no way for them to bump my date up 9 days. They said their system doesn't allow it unless you are doing a transaction. They also told me the only way to save $200 was to go to an AT&T store in the 12th and ask them to bump my date 9 days while preordering my phone with them. I told AT&T that I want to be among the first people to order the phone (2:01am Friday central time) and the AT&T store isn't open. They said I was out of luck. Anyone else have this similar of an experience? Anyone have any advice for me? I don't want to shell out the extra $200 and I don't want to wait until the 21st and risk the good possibility of no supply due to high demand. Thoughts??? Thanks! Craig from Texas

I mean... is unlimited really unlimited with AT&T nowadays?
I get throttled to a crawl after 3GB...

I spoke to ATT today about the same issue, and although the rep seemed uncertain, I got a call back from a floor supervisor to help clarify what I was told. (This seemed unusual since I hadn't asked to be called back. The call must have been monitored and the supervisor thought it prudent.)

Anyways, I was also told there was no way to change the Sept 21st date to save $200 and be able to pre-order. I was told that I could keep my unlimited data plan and pre-order using their NEXT program, however there is no rate plan discount similar to with the Mobile Share Plans. So my monthly bills will be what I pay now plus the NEXT installment payment. I was also told that to trade the phone in next year, after 12 months, I would need to do so at an ATT Corporate store. This means I will not be able to pre-order the iPhone 6s when it gets released next year.

This seems like a trivial inconvenience, but I have gotten the latest iPhone at launch for the past 5 years and would hate not being able to do so again this year. Hopefully the policy changes before the 12th when pre-orders start.

You could retain UDP using NEXT??

You could retain UDP using NEXT??

Yes, I was told you could. It is not discounted when combined with the Next program, so you essentially are paying for a rate plan that should provide a subsidized device every two years which you will now forgo. But if your are using more than 2GB of data each month, the unlimited plan is still cheaper.

My upgrade date was showing as the 14th as well. I got the iPhone 5 on launch day. I spoke with an AT&T rep about getting it bumped up 2 days and she told me that my line was already showing eligible for the subsidized pricing. I went on Apple's website to check and it was showing eligible for the subsidized pricing. You should check yours too.

i shall check but she was kinda mean about it then tried to sell my uverse.
thanks!

i check the upgrade eligibility site and they say I qualify for a new one.
My contract date end is still 9/14. Looks like they are allowing an upgrade if you are within a certain number of days.

The upgrade fee has been $40 for a couple of years now. It's annoying but I think people have had success requesting it remove after they get their phones.

My got automatically updated as well! Yay! I thought I was going to need to argue with ATT about it.

Hmmm, I checked my upgrage eligibility, and as I expected, if I buy an iPhone 6 Plus on 9/12, I will have to pay full price. There is an asterisk above the full price "Buy Today" column as well as over the "Buy Sept 21, 2014" column showing that a new 2 year contract is required.

"**Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. In CA and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone."

If I'm reading this correctly, I'll have to renew my contract if I pay full price. I hope this is an error.

Yes you can. I too have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and did the process of upgrading via NEXT using the 5S as an example (since the 6 is not shipping yet), and when you click on the cart and view plan details, it showed my unlimited plan still there.

Hope that helps.

Why do people say 3gb?
It's 5GB chief unless you're using an iPhone 4.

We say 3GB because that's when they actually start throttling down.
AT&T might say 5GB, but we all know that's bs.

I still don't get why people get next. Don't you end up paying WAY more than just renewing your contract?

I've been with AT&T before they were Cingular her locally. All 3 of my line are unlimited and that is the main reason I stay with AT&T. When they do away with the grandfathered plans I will switch to a less expensive network.

I've got the unlimited plan and every time I upgrade via Apple.com there is no selection to stay on what I have, it only shows what is currently available and basically makes you pick one of them. I have this issue with my texting plan as well cuz I have the $4.99/200 text plan they no longer offer. I always have to call or go into the ATT store to activate and switch my plan back to my grandfathered services before I turn the phone on...

Because not everybody upgrades their phone every two years. And for those who don't, you can save a lot of money per month...especially if you have multiple members of your plan in that same boat.

This is from Apple.com....so it looks like I can preorder even though my contract isn't up until next Sept 2015.

Those of you who are doing a mock checkout, and it's working, are you using apple website or att?

Also when we preorder through apple, does the shipping address have to match our billing? Or just the address on our att account? Reason being, I want to ship it to work.

Using Apples site to go through the process with a 5s, it shows your plan details at the end once you've added to cart and are ready to checkout - my unlimited data is listed without issue. Should be the same come Friday morning.

You need to show your math - I have yet to see a NEXT plan work out for anyone. and savings of $10-$30 over the course of 2 years is not really savings.

And NEXT certainly doesn't work if you are coming from a grandfathered plan or you have any corporate FAN discounts because these new AT&T plans don't give you discounts any longer.

AT&T might say 5GB, but we all know that's bs.

That is false.
On LTE devices it starts at 5GB.
On 3G devices is at 3GB.
Educate yourself first before you act like you know or what you think they actually start throttling down at.
I been with an unlimited data plan since the 1st iphone and with every iphone since then. How would you know its BS? Are You even on AT&T unlimited data plan or just talking without a clue?
