One of the smartest moves I made this year was to drop the unlimited on 2 of our phones. 10gb shared data. Eliminated the overage that the phone with 2gb had. Picked up tethering and dropped ipad plan. $100 a month savings.

That's smart because you didn't have unlimited. You had unlimited and 2gb throttled.

----------

As others have said- did it through apple App Store. Showed before and after hitting confirm unlimited data.

What is your new plan then?

Was finally able to place an order through ATT site (Apple site was a nightmare) and I was able to keep my unlimited plan, but it removed my messaging plan for some reason (no big deal).

The key is that even though you're choosing your existing plan, you still have to pick out your same features prior to finalizing your order. It's a slick way to get you to choose a different data plan if you're not paying close attention.

When I pre-ordered early this morning, the unlimited data plan was still an option, so I'm hanging onto it!

when i was ordering on att last night.. i didn't see any options for me to choose. there was just one page where i chose to change to "next", the 2 year agreement, or the full price version. i chose the "2 year" and hit the button and i got the confirmation the next page. did i miss something?

Same for me.

they still have it. i have it. i spoke to an AT&T rep today because my contract end date is 9/14 and she refused to bump it up two days.
she did seems to indicate she could bump if i changed to next or the family share plan. i said no thanks. 2 of my lines are on the grandfather unlimited plan.

I got the same encouragement to go Next. I've read in the past that people were able to get bumped up but they somehow are not able to do this now.

I can wait to 10 Oct. Don't want to but I can.

Chris

AT&T is letting people upgrade if there contact expiration is within an unknown number of days from the release.
mine expires 9/14 and I was able to upgrade at the subsidized price and get a 64GB for 299.

44% of ATTs customers are on UDPs
They will never ever ever do away with it, at risk of jeprodizing that amount of customer loyalty.
While we were able to preorder iPhones and stay on the unlimited plan, we're actually thinking about switching.

We're actually using small amounts of data on our iPhones (maybe 250MB/mo, max), but would like to use large amounts of data on our iPads, which are on limited plans. If I'm reading everything correctly, we could switch to a 10GB/mo plan (which is more than we need), and save $25-$30/mo. That's a lot for us.

Of course, that assumes that AT&T will let us switch, since they'd be losing money if we did.

Keep in mind prices reflected are now NEXT pricing, if you use a standard upgrade your line price goes from the discounted shown (-25 or -15 per line) to the standard 40.00/line.

Yes, you're right. The AT&T website was misleading to me; it was showing me undiscounted prices for what I'm currently paying, and discounted prices for what I'd pay if I switched (our contract end date is this month). Once you add the discounts back in, it's a different story.

If anyone has a unlimited iPad plan they're trying to get rid of, I travel full time and this particular plan would be amazing.

not sure why people stick with att when tmobile is cheaper and has unlimited data, rollover and half the media sites and music sites don't count towards your data anyways. I had the grandfathered data on att and haven't looked back since switching to tmobile. Oh and free tethering

One simple reason - TMO is crap compared to AT&T. I'm just north of Los Angeles and my LTE speeds are 20Mbps+ faster, overall service is better and actually works indoors. I have a few friends that can't get service inside our work place with TMO, yet I have 5 bars.

I guess tmobile is "crap" in that area but in Baltimore and on the new 6s (added bands or whatever) I get great speeds and service every I go. I also get free wifi calling so inside anywhere with wifi I don't even need to worry about bars or whatever.

That said I suppose it depends on location and you brought up decent points.

AT&T has free WiFi calling as well. But not all places have WiFi available for TMO customers, so that wouldn't help you if you were still in an area with low service indoors. It is true that every area will be dependent, all I know is that AT&T has been much more reliable in my area over TMO, Sprint and Verizon for the last decade.

Why do these old threads keep getting brought back? This is getting ridiculous.
Because newbies are searching and posting, so it comes back to life. Better them searching than posting new threads all the time. Old threads coming back doesn't really hurt anyone.

makes total sense. Thanks for the replies

I dunno either, I just happened to stumble upon it because I am on here a lot right now due to the new dev releases. A LOT of the posts that show up on this site are flat out ridiculous along with most of the replies haha

I'd rather a new thread on an old topic be made than an old thread be revived.
