I feel for all you having issues. Let me grab my ouija board and me and my 2009 iMac will send good thoughts.

(Joke requires memory of the iMac that got so hot it desoldered its own GPU.)
That would be a pretty spectacular feature for the new iMac 5700 XT as it could physically eject the GPU if it was having problems with it.

I've owned the new 2020 iMac with 5700 XT and haven't noticed any graphical glitches yet but maybe they're happening and I'm not noticing. That said, I've had LOTS of other problems with the machine this just isn't one of them.
That experience is usually what occurs with some graphic issues, some see the issue, some don't. Still a driver update should usually resolve this issue. I just like the fact its readily being demonstrated online by some, not that its a rare condition. ;)

Wow, reminds me of my old MacBook Pro back in the day. I think AppleCare had to replace the entire logic board.

Graphics issues on a machine with tight form factors?

I had one of the first Mac minis.. a G4 some fourteen years ago... First taste of Mac life, and... unfortunately a disappointment. I had it hooked using DVI-D to a display, and ultimately it would begin to flicker like mad until I used VGA instead. That sent me on a long, long road with ATI and Apple. ATI had a firmware update for the graphics chip that could potentially help. ATI said Apple hadn't bought the firmware update, instead one with limited features enabled. From what would become a common theme over the years, it turns out much of the heat sinks were gutted from the card, and subsequently underclocked to keep heat at a manageable level. Much more likely the cause of the issue. Apple wouldn't admit anything to me, but.. got an iPod Photo out of the whole ordeal for free.

I actually have one in my kitchen right now waiting to be baked. 200°C for 10 minutes adds a few months of life to an otherwise powerhouse of a Mac.

This isn't Apples fault at all. The last set of AMD GPU's have been full of issues. As per usual AMD release half arsed drivers.

Might e how they can do the cards so cheap.

Maybe Apple should settle their petty arguments with Nvidia and use their GPUs again. Obviously won’t happen since they are moving to their own SOCs with Apple silicon.

On the Windows side many have reported quality issues with AMD GPU drivers. Not fully surprised this is happening on the Mac side as well I guess.

Frustrating problem...I have it too, noticed immediately on startup. I've talked to Apple support and the tech I got didn't even know what I was talking about. I basically gave up. Others have said they talked to some techs that said it's a known problem to Apple, hoping they can send an update soon (assuming it isn't hardware-related)!

I wish MR would write a big piece on the 16" GPU issues.
Unless there was one but I don't recall.
Ultimately AMD drivers / hardware sucks lately.
What issues? I've had my 16" MBP since early February and I use it extensively as I edit in FCP X weekly. Not a single problem.

There are a fair amount of people using the 5700 XT desktop GPU with an eGPU. I've not read anything about this kind of thing before. Maybe their implementation of it?

I have the 2020 iMac with 5700XT and I don't have the white lines issue, but HDMI out doesn't work. I've tested with Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and usb-c to HDMI adapter. They both work on different MacBooks as well as the HDMI cables. I wiped the SSD clean and tried re-installing at least 15 times, but it doesn't fix the problem. Only way to get it working is to reset the PRAM, but I have to do this every time TV shuts off/on or is disconnected.

Could be a firmware or hardware issue. It might be related to the 5700xt glitches or just be my iMac.

So odd. Oddly enough I think there are some hackintosh-ers that run the XT as well and have to remap ports.

I'm still evaluating an eGPU for my MacBook Pro 16, this was a consideration until Big Navi was released.

This is the first time I have not maxed out a BTO and it is because of this issue.
