I have a Mac Pro 5,1 running High Sierra with a Radeon HD5770 GPU. Was just wondering if I switched the GPU to the Radeon RX580, will utilize the extra power for rendering and playback?

Is there a specific Radeon RX580 I should get.. Most people say get the Sapphire one.. But I've seen a Pulse version and a Nitro+. Any difference between the two? Compatibility Issues?

This is the card that's recommended by Apple and everyone else.

It's the card I'd get if I were you. There should be no compatibility issues if you are running High Sierra.

It's easier to power, uses 1 16x double slot, and is fully supported by Apple. It won't have boot screens however (neither will the other cards you mention).

There are at least 1/2 dozen threads already dedicated to this subject. I suggest you do a search or even just check the last 3-4 pages and do some reading. Utilize the threads that are already covering the subject instead of making more threads.

I do, but please re-read post #6 above.

AFAIK, Final Cut Pro 7 won't launch in High Sierra, so you must be using Final Cut Pro X (AKA, Final Cut Pro 10 )

Sorry bud I am new to using forums. Not sure how to find what Im looking for in the search. Little bit a learning curve. I didn't see your post. Was trying to reply on my phone. I appreciate the info though.

Yeah, it all looks a little different on a phone. I do that too sometimes and hate it, but hey, better than nothing. There are 3-4 threads on the 1st page just below this one that are talking about the same video card, and have much more information. That's what I'm referring to.

Final Cut Pro

Legacy Final Cut Pro doesn't run on High Sierra. Legacy FCP runs on Sierra but it will not gain much with the Pulse RX580 because it relies mainly on the CPU, not the GPU, for heavy lifting. FCPX on the other hand can gain higher performance with a better GPU.
