I had been waiting and waiting for the new model to come out but after being released, I didn't feel as compelled to buy it. So I went for the refurb. I thought it would be discounted more but still a decent buy and a big upgrade from my 3 year old MBP:

$1729
Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.66GHz Intel Core i7
Originally released April 2010
15.4-inch LED-backlit antiglare Hi-Res widescreen display (1680 x 1050 pixel)
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory

And then after I bought it...I had slight buyers remorse. lol. Should I have waited until the price dropped a little more?

It's hard to say if the price would drop more or if Apple would just run out of them altogether. Keep in mind you have 14 days to return it, there is no restocking fee, and Apple will even send you a prepaid box to return it as a courtesy (I checked). Additionally, if you notice the price *does* drop within 14 days, you can call up Apple and they will credit you the difference.

Good to know and thanks for the info! My current MBP is also a refurb and I've been very happy with it. I got the 1 day shipping so I'm hoping it comes tomorrow (ordered late last night and picked up in PA this AM). I don't know if they have Sat. delivery :/

No problem. :) Also for future reference, the free shipping option often arrives the next day depending upon where its coming from. I ordered my refurb yesterday, chose the free option, and its *still* scheduled to arrive today amazingly enough. (I'll see if it actually does, lol)

If you look at my post in the first page, you will see that this machine comes and goes with a price of $1729 or $1999. So you got the one I was talking about, great deal!

I usually wouldn't choose overnight but I'm leaving for a business trip on Tuesday so I wanted to make sure it was definitely here by Monday at the latest. If it comes tomorrow, I could spend the weekend properly migrating. LOL!

I didn't see a $1999 version but there is a $1899 that is identical from what I could see. Love the hi-res anti glare for less than $1800!

Now to buy RAM to upgrade it. haha.

Absolutely, the c2d is still very capable. I really had no issues with my 2010 13" except for the resolution. Had they upped the resolution along with the processor I would have been all over it again.

For me, I would worry about longevity of the c2d over time now. I'm sure there will come a time in the next couple years when it isn't supported by certain apps or softwares. I can see the i5 and i7 duals being somewhat relevant still in a few years. I don't see that with the c2d. But again, I'm not knockin your purchase at all. You got a great machine at a great price as did all of us that purchased today (well except maybe for those poor SOBs that bought the 2011 13", they will be upgrading again next year lol)

You think the people who bought new 2011 MBPs are "poor SOBs" that will have to upgrade again next year. But someone who bought a C2D won't have to/made a reasonable decision? What logic is in this?

I just pulled the trigger on the 13" 2.66Ghz that was $1019...Figured it would be a nice compliment to my 2008 Black MacBook.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this baby can do!

I saw those, for only a little more than the cost of the high end iPad, you can get a laptop. Good deal.

Great news. I actually have that MBP but bought it in April 2010. I was almost going to sell it for $1600 about 2 months ago on craigslist to get a Mac Pro (made upgrades to make that price reasonable) but I decided not to. I got a good amount of offers though. Sucks to know that the $1600 resale value has dropped to about 100 bucks or more under what Apple sells the refurb for now. Oh well, that's technology for ya

I think he was referring to the lower screen resolution in the 13 in.

I Just picked up one the the entry level Macbook Pro 13.3"s for $979.

2010 Model
2.4 Ghz
4GB RAM
250 GB
SD card

I was going to go with the new 2011, but I couldn't justify the price difference for the i5 processor and thunderbolt/HD webcam. I won't use the thunderbolt, as this is mainly for couch surfing and photos and basic stuff, Itunes etc., Not to mention from reviews the video card in the new 2011 isn't as good as the 2010.

The price difference worked out to be savings of $300 after taxes. NOT BAD.

My refurb is supposed to arrive today but hasn't yet--its driving me crazy. Will I get a true repaired refurb in a brown box, a refurb that was a previous return but otherwise fine, or an unopened "new" mbp of the previous generation?

I suppose I'll see soon enough. As long as it works and there are no scratches or dents I'll be happy.

I received mine about an hour ago. It showed up in a white box. One tiny mark on the bottom, but otherwise looks new. This thing is a beast coming from my 13" 2010 model!

Next year the 13" will have a higher resolution and everyone will want to upgrade. I dont care who you are, if you have a 13" you wish it had a higher resolution.

You won't regret it. My grandson got the 2.4GHz 13 inch MBP for college last summer. He uses it heavily and loves it.

So you got the best price :D

I'm sooooooooooooooooo tempted. But I think I will wait for the next round of upgrades/refurbs :p

I think it really depends on what you are coming from if you need the hi res. Im coming from a 13" so even the jump to 1440 x 900 is nice, plus all the real estate I gained on the screen.

Still Waiting for Shipping

I just made my order and waiting for the email confirmation :)

I went with this model...

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core i5

Originally released April 2010
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display (1440 x 900 pixel)
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory...

Really hope it's worth the extra $170 for the extra hard drive space and for future proofing my Mac. Do you think so?

Thanks for help guys! :D

I usually can't justify buying the higher model when they are new, but as a refurb it's not that unreasonable. If that was my only option I would have done the same.

They shipped mine yesterday within three hours if me ordering it. I wouldn't count on being able to change your order.*

Mine is suppose to be here by 4:30 today. Can fedex be any slower today?? Lol

Still waiting for my Mac to ship (from the USA to Canada I guess). Ordered early Friday morning and estimated arrival is between March 2-6. It's being prepared for shipment since yesterday afternoon. Is it normal to take that long on a weekend? Yours shipped in 3hrs.

It did say that the hi-res models had a longer lead time before shipping. Hi-res was 3-5 days and the regular screen was 1-3 days. Just be patient, it will get there. They probably had stacks of the base models ready to go out the door. I had mine approx. 27 hours after I ordered it ;)

I am very happy with my purchase even though I originally wanted the hi-res screen.

The high res screen really isn't that much of a jump. Its worth it if you are heavy on the Photoshop or movie work, but other then that, I don't think its that important. Personally I would go for it, but if I had to manage without it, I would

It's great to hear that you're enjoying your Mac

Called Apple this evening; the delay isn't because my Mac comes with a hi-res screen (it doesn't) but because it's the weekend.

Again March 2 till the 6th is the estimated delivery date. I'll post back when it arrives.

I also picked up the AntiGlare model at $1399 today.. was in stock this morning then went out, came back in.
