oh yes.

i'd much rather have a MacBook, then a Dell - but again, preference. i'm not going to hate someone for liking Windows. Most people could care less. As do I.

it's YOUR computer not mine. ha so i don't really see the need to control it
I'm not sure if your responding to other comments or me, but I am an avid Mac user. And I get in alot of these arguments, usually started when a PC user screems at their PC:D I usually win those...
SG :apple:

I couldn't say 'I chose a Dell over a MBP' with a straight face.

One is made from superior materials, it's an engineered product with a build second to none running a solid operating system... and the other is a Dell running Vista...

thats one point of view. Again, I am not saying the dell is better so lets not start that pissing contest. I simply stated that the MBP did not have the hardware I wanted. No matter crappy vista maybe or how much better a mac is, the MBP did not meet my haardware needs or wants.

Then, Congratulations on your Dell. May it bring you productivity and happiness for many years to come.

thank you.

it has so far.

I just don't understand the attitude but thanks for sharing your POV

You're welcome.

We all have different wants and needs from our computers.
For me, and many here - the combination of Apple Hardware and OS X is worth the extra expenditure. :)

My neighbor is giving me grief for being an Mac owner and fan (Mac Mini 2.26 in particular). He claims PCs are much better deals. According to him, PCs are cheaper to buy, easier to fix, cheaper to have repaired, and they do the same things that Macs do, mostly because PCs are not proprietary hardware like Macs are. He and his PC friend claim Apple Macs are "boutique" products, hence the hefty price tag to buy and repair compared to workhorse PCs.

So what say ye all? Why do we love Macs over PCs, and what do you tell followers of the dark side?

I suggest you tell this knob that the weather is Cuba is very nice this time of year.

Then ring the Homeland Security Hotline and tell them that you have seen men of middle eastern appearance discussing building plans and unloading fertilizer and electrical components at your neighbour's house late at night.... ;)

It's really the toaster as an appliance mentality...hey, if they all make the same toast, why pay a premium price? Watching a video or having a utility run will yield the same results on either type of machine. And if the motherboard or another part fails, it's easier to access a standard slotted PC than opening up a Mac.

My response is you get what you pay for. Macs are better quality hardware, have the superior OSX operating system, and no virus issues. But this falls on deaf ears as a struggling attempt to come up with some rationale.

Who cares what he says if he's not buying it for you.

Next time, tell him that unless he plans on buying you a complete pc computer (including software) and lifetime support for the computer, you don't want to hear it.

Stereotyping?

Tut tut!! Stereotyping?

You can keep those views outta here.

As long as I don't have to fix the PC, then I don't mind other's computer choice. I know myself I use a Mac, and what others choose to use as their computer, doesn't bug me. Do you go around judging what kind of car other's drive? What kind of shoes they wore?

For me? it's :apple: Forever :)

I have both PCs and Macs. Both have their uses. Interestingly several of my friends have recently converted to Mac after seeing how painful my Mac was to use and how good it was at Multi Tasking compared to their PCs.

Most Windows-based PC owners have never tried a Mac. It's the whole fear of the unknown thing. Why even discuss it? It's kinda like my discussing the value of a bath with my 7-year-old.

Exactly.. i talked so much **** about Macs until one day.. my friend sent me a link to the guided tour of Leopard. From that day on i realized, "Wow, everyone is right.. PC's do suck." and i do nothing but convert PC users. I can't even count how many I've converted to Macs. And I've only had my Mac for almost 3 months. I knew everything about OS X months before i even got my Mac. I studied non-stop until i knew i could take it out of the box and do anything and everything i needed. Basically, my point is.. if you're open minded, you'll pick a Mac over a PC 100% of the time.

+1

That's pretty much exactly my story. I avoided contact with Mac - fear of the uncertain. But once I tested the water, I liked what I saw.

This happens because they are jealous. They would like to own a Mac but can't afford it or something else.

I've gone through this conversation dozens of times with my friends but I always laugh when they talk about their BSODs and other significant problems :D

He is absolutelly right. Especially, if you are living outside of USA.

Do you mean software wise? That's right. Everything, that can be done on a Mac, can be also done on the PC and vice versa.

He and his PC friend claim Apple Macs are "boutique" products, hence the hefty price tag to buy and repair compared to workhorse PCs.

Saddly, they are right. As I already wrote: if you are outside of the USA...

Yep, that's right. Anyway, the logic board in a Mac Pro can be relativelly easyly be replace, but you need some time.

My response is you get what you pay for. Macs are better quality hardware,

Nah, not since, they don't use the PowerPC tehnology. And even then, the HDDs, RAMs etc. were all the same as on the PC side. Apple user play always a premium price for graphic cards. If they are enought idiots, who pays this, Apple's shareholders are happy.

Superior in what? Did you once try to make a comparison between the Open/Save dialogs on MacOS X and on any version of Windows?

So what say ye all? Why do we love Macs over PCs, and what do you tell followers of the dark side?

I use both of them. On the hardware side, I do hate my Mac (a 1,83 GHz C2D mini). The MacOS has some nice features, but that's it. Some file-operations thingies are much better on the Windows side (especially in Windows Vista/7).

"He claims PCs are much better deals. According to him, PCs are cheaper to buy, easier to fix, cheaper to have repaired"

HA!! He forgot that PC is filled with iSTD and viruses, He might not even know that his PC is already a Zombie, perhaps PC is cheaper to have repaired, but he will have it repaired 20 times more than a Mac. And had him taken into account the downtime thus lost of productivities and time?

PCs are cheaper to buy? Take a look at the prices of the Sony or HP and compare it to the iMac or MacBooks.

While it's true that there is nothing special about the Mac hardwares, however, the Windows OS from Garbagesoft is fundamentally flaw.

It the OS, stupid!!
