People seem to have trouble grasping the term 'PC'.

It is only an abbreviation of Personal Computer.

What mostly differentiates these Personal Computers, if we disregard design and aesthetics, are what kind of operating system they run.

This discussion seems rather to be centered on the choice of operating system.

A PC is a PC no matter what kind of operating system it runs.

Self-proclaimed Mr. Obvious ...

Another thing:

And if you know everything about OS X, then I hope that this includes some of its history and that you know that it's just a heavily customized FreeBSD Unix with roots in BSD Unix 4.3. Meaning that everything that makes OS X so great and stable was not Apple's invention. Just like Apple did not invent the mouse (although they claimed so) and they certainly did not invent the mp3 player.

I am pretty sure that Mac OSX is also heavily based upon OPENSTEP from NeXT, co-founded by Steve Jobs back in the day.

I like it that I'm the only person in my class using a mac. It makes me feel special or exclusive you know.

And usually in teevee shows, stars use a mac and stuff which kinda makes owning a mac like a exclusive thing anddddd it's expensive too!

I mean like people will be like. Ohh you're rich.

How can that doesn't make you feel good?-.-

Even though the journey is the same, some people prefer flying first class. :)

It's people like you that I don't like.

Owning a Mac makes you no better than anyone else.
Because you have the money to spend on a mac?:confused::confused:

Mac is like Thai food, looks beautiful and tastes great.
Linux is like Chinese food, plain look but fulfilling.
Windows is what comes out from the other end in the morning.

You can't generalize computers like that. PCs (windows running machines) aren't all the same. There are literally hundreds of manufacturers that make very different machines. Heck, you can build your own computer from parts.

And when it comes to laptops/notebooks, I believe Macbooks are way easier to open up compared to other laptops such as my Dell or Samsung. I don't have experience with Mac desktops so I can't really comment on that.

I agree Macs are quality hardware. They look pretty and all that. OS X is also indeed superior to any version of Windows, especially since it's a unix-like platform--the platform that does things "right." (But if you're stupid enough you can get viruses on OS X.)

Tell him that his logical premise is both ambiguous and false thus his proposition is demonstrably fallacious.

I don't feel the need to justify or defend my Mac to any PC owner
If they are happy with what they have... more power to them

I prefer OSX and the stability of Leopard and the Mac environment, simple as that
We both had choices and I don't try to evangelize for Macs

I care not what they think

Woof, Woof - Dawg

Agreed, it is just a computer.

Lately I've been thinking about it thusly:

If you like to, and/or feel the need to tinker with your computer constantly, then a Windows PC is probably for you. In my experience, I have to constantly tinker with my gaming box and work PC to get it to behave the way I want it to.

If you don't want to tinker (or perhaps tinker occasionally), then a Mac is probably for you.

If you're into masochism, then go for Linux. ;)

So I just ask people if they like to tinker with their computer. "Futz" is also an acceptable word.

There, I wrote tinker five times.

i used to be into gaming where i was constantly having the latested and greatest hardware, troubleshooting the issues with the latest drivers, always trying to squeeze 1 or 2 more fps or 100Hz out of the processor. it was fun.
Now Xbox360, turn on and play.
My work laptop has so much corporate crap on it it does require tinkering.

Not trying to start a flame mac vs pc when I ask just looking for an opinion.
Do you think if apple offered more of a hardware selection, games and more frequent updates to the drivers there would be more tinkering with the Mac?

thanks

Come on, everybody knows that. It's just an abbreviation.

Nah, it's more because you're smart enough to chose what OS you want to use.

What are you doing in a mac forum anyway mac hater? Ive been using a pc for years and getting a mac really felt like upgrading to if not first but at least business class. Cleaner, nicer, simpler. And no u dont have to be rich to afford a 700 usd mini.. If u cant pherhaps buying computer hardware shouldnt be ur first prio. Thanks.

Just tell them this next time.... right after they finish their ramblings:

"So what's you F&*#ing point?"

Yes, because cursing at someone is going to make your point sound sooo intelligent.

Like dawg said, let them have their opinion. I personally like both Macs and PCs. However, if I had the money, you bet your butt I'd have a Mac in an instant.

Its a matter of preferance/ financial situation. I bet if they had the money, deep down they'd get a Mac.

Whoever said I was a mac hater?

I own a mac pro. I use OS X everyday pretty just as much as I use windows.
I'm just saying it's stupid how people take sides when it's pretty obvious that there is no winners or losers side to this argument.

Of course people are entitled to their own opinion.

Wow... The guy has a Mac, a Mac Pro! Those are expensive, we all know it, it is the "big dog" of the line. What he is saying is that having a Mac does not make us special, or even that rich, it means we have a Mac. Like if someone has an iPod they are not special or rich, they just have an iPod and decided to spend the money they have on that particular thing instead of many others.

My neighbor is giving me grief for being an Mac owner and fan (Mac Mini 2.26 in particular). He claims PCs are much better deals. According to him, PCs are cheaper to buy, easier to fix, cheaper to have repaired, and they do the same things that Macs do, mostly because PCs are not proprietary hardware like Macs are. He and his PC friend claim Apple Macs are "boutique" products, hence the hefty price tag to buy and repair compared to workhorse PCs.

It's really the toaster as an appliance mentality...hey, if they all make the same toast, why pay a premium price? Watching a video or having a utility run will yield the same results on either type of machine. And if the motherboard or another part fails, it's easier to access a standard slotted PC than opening up a Mac.

My response is you get what you pay for. Macs are better quality hardware, have the superior OSX operating system, and no virus issues. But this falls on deaf ears as a struggling attempt to come up with some rationale.

So what say ye all? Why do we love Macs over PCs, and what do you tell followers of the dark side?

Why are you even bothering to get into a conversation with your neighbor about what's the best Operating System?
You've (both) obviously got too much on your hands...

Sounds like you need new neighbors.

Me personally I usually force-choke people who crack on my hardware. One person got so bad I had to force-lightning them to death. Fortunately, I was able to repaint over the carbon scoring, and really nobody cares why they don't see him around any more.

Exactly. I use Windows way more then OS X, but I still despise Microsoft and think that OS X is the best OS. Confused? I work at a computer running Windows XP for 8 hours every weekday. I use my Mac for 2 or 3 hours a day as I have better stuff to do all night then come home from working on a computer and then just get back on it again. However, even if I don't have problems with using XP at work (because I have to), I absolutely refuse to use Windows as my OS at home.

Some Mac users find the need to attack everyone else (read quote below), some windows users find the need to attack everyone else (pretty much any windows forum will show you this), and some linux guys like to bash everyone else (ubuntu forums are brutal), all for no reason. I suppose they need to justify their choice by bashing eveyone else instead of just enjoying their computer and moving on.

I use windows and osx, and there are some things about both that annoy the crap out of me, but i dont form my religion around it. People find the need to get all worked up about things sometimes.

Next time your neighbor starts on a rant i would just tell him that you will use a pc if he buys it for you, until then its not his choice to make. Worst case senario is that you get a new pc to play with.

I will bake (and mail) you one dozen cookies if you can tell me why this is relevant to the OP. No lie.

Damn, you doods are still at it!? How about this, use what you like and roll with it. To hell with what everyone else thinks...unless you're insecure er something. Too much A versus B personalities clashes going on.

Like I said before, I use what works for me and I am happy with what I have. No need to change anything.

Here is a theory, I ride dirt bike's. Matter of fact its a 2-stroke 500 (CR500). It will rip your arms clean off if you let it. I have a highly modified one and spent many years building it, so you can say I know my way around it. Point is....yes I am getting there.....I use to moderate in a CR500 forums. Use to get nonstop questions...."what should I run?" "What jets are you using?" "What is a good size sprockets." I tell them, "My stuff is taylored to me and my riding style." "My setup may or may not work for you due to the terrian I ride." Personally, I see this as the same...computer preference and DB's. Its all what your going to use it for and what you want.

Soooo, is all mind over matter, I dont mind, because they do not matter. I like my place in the Mac community. I have "my" reasons. As previously mentioned...this is an arguement that will NOT be won. So....cracks knuckles.....whose ready for a beer?

I don't own a Mac and I have nothing against them, I'd love to get a Mac.

I've heard Macs (or OSX?) don't support MKVs and aren't so good around HD playback, these right there are my reasons for not having a Mac. I might be wrong, it's only what I've heard.

MKVs can be played with both Perian or VLC.
They're perfectly fine for HD.
