So after reading most of this iam still unsure which to buy, i live in a pretty big city ( phoenix, az ) and i want to listen to my ipod in the car.. it seems like if you live in a pretty rural area your good but anywhere near a city and it gets all messed up, whats the recomendation? i dont have a tape deck in my car so thats out of the question any thing else worth trying?

I have one, and I absolutely love it. It works very well for my use both at home and in the car. I love the way that it is so small, fits directly on the iPod and is powered by the iPod's battery. My only complaint is that the only way to change frequencies is on the iPod as a song, which can be very time consuming and cumbersome in the car. Fortunately, there are some good open frequencies in this area, so I don't have to change too often. Other than that, everything is great.

I've had the itrip for a few months now. It worked perfectly until I went on vacation. After getting back home, it would only tune to 89.9..making it pretty worthless as that station has a high signal strength that overrides the itrip.
Has anyone ever had this happen and/or have any idea how to fix it so that i can change the frequency it transmits to?

my roommates got one, granted it was used and it's BRUTAL. You pretty much have to have your iPod sitting ontop of the radio, he bought it so he could use it in his room with the sterio and if the iTrip get's more than 2 feet away it fuzzes out.

We live in the mountains and there's only 2 radio stations around here so it's certanly not interference.

I had one of these with my first iPod (can't even remember which gen it was). It worked okay and was nice to only have to haul around the iPod with the iTrip on top. The problem I had was I live in a fairly large metro area and it would seem that just when I found an empty channel, it would get interfence and I would have to change it. The sucky thing about changing it was I had to move through menus on the iPod to get to the settings and then change the freq. Kind of a pain. I've moved to an external fm transmitter by Belkin that covers the whole fm spectrum and works great. Plug it into the charger on my car and away I go. Run into freq. problems? Just push an arrow up or down and it's done. Granted....an iTrip looks cooler than this thing though.

Wow, I can walk about 20 feet away with it and still have a pretty clear signal. I would try a different frequency.

i think the majority of the people here disliked it
i also disliked it
bad reception and it really made mad when it would cut out occasionally during a song (or just not work at all)

I've found that the stations near the ends of the spectrum seem to have the best chance of being free.

Griffin recommend using frequencies near the middle of their range (around 100) for optimum broadcasting power however you have to allow for the fact that these frequencies are often used by commercial/public radio stations too. I do 100.7 which seems to work the best for me in most places. :)

I live in London and I found that iTrip to be useless if used in a car anywahere around here butit really comes into its own on long journeys to elsewhere in the country. As the FM stations slowly disappear and you head into the fuzzy obscurity of mediumwave the iTrip works perfectly, signal strength is never a problem and you have to change frequency very occasionally when you stumble across a local fm station. If you're thinking of get one it is important to be realistic about hwen you want to use it because as i've said it is next to useless in big cities.

I bought one - used it about all of ten minutes before I decided it was pretty much useless. If you live in a city it's a pain to get a decent frequency, I found myself looking at my ipod more than the road. If you're going to be in the car for a short period of time it's really not worth the hassle. For longer trips though, it may be ok, depending on your patience level, I prefer to just burn some CD's.

allison.

Totally agree allison,
thankfully more and more car stereos have a line-in as standard now and many manufacturers actually offer ful ipod integration. Obviously I'm hanging in for the iCar which is to be launched at the expo event in Paris next month. Four wheels, dual cores and an ipod dock in the dash, what more could a mac fan want.

PLUS three colour options only, ipod white, apple green and rainbow - beautiful.

iTrip LCD!

I love my itrip so much I had to get another. I just ordered the new itrip LCD but its apparently backordered (ordered straight from Griffin, as well...) Anyone else heard anything about availability?

Love mine too, got one for my brother as well.
I live in Oslo and it is not to difficult to find a good freqency. Sorry to hear about the problem you guys have in the US

Didn't even know there was such a thing. So there i am, with my finger on the pulse!!

I got mine for free; it was a demo at some store where a friend of my brother's works. It's great! Works well in my car, and on my stereo in my room.

I saw it first on Endadget or gizmodo or one of those gadget sites. I went right to Griffin and ordered it. I should have known that it wouldn't be available when it was first announced.

I picked one up at the Apple Store today... only $39.95.

Anyone interested in a slightly-used iTrip (no LCD)? PM me if you are.

in case anyone is interested, it shipped yesterday. Unfortunatly not in time for my impending travel, but oh well, it'll be a nice surprise when I return.

In my case, the iTrip is pretty pointless, as all there is here in montana is country, pop country, and ever other variation of country. I'd get it if i lived somewhere cool like seattle...

Couldn't justify one so I searched on eBay for a 'white fm transmitter' and paid 99p for a nasty little plastic thing from Hong Kong (had to pay £7.50 for postage!!!!!). And it works a treat - set it on 107.9 the day I got it and use it when I'm driving all over the south east.

huh?? the itrip is not an fm receiver...it's an fm transmitter, so you can play your ipod via a car stereo utilizing the fm frequencies. it does not let you listen to radio through your ipod...if anything, you would benefit from an itrip even more than someone in a market with a lot of good radio stations.

My friend bought an original iTrip and it was broken. He got a replacement, and it didn't work either.

That's why I stick with my tape adapter: no problems, simple to use, and good quality.

You mean like you probably have no idea how to spell?

It didn't work, period, and the second one wouldn't work unless you tapped on the circular part of it.
