Connects in dock. LCD screen. LX and DX modes- One is supposed to work better in city conditions (even w/ interfering radios) 50 dollars!

Available for pre-order.

EDIT:

Ugh just noticed somebody already posted. My B.

At normal places it won't sell, for $50. It will sell between $30 and $40, much like the new LCD iTrip.

I wonder how many people pay that $50 pre-order, plus shipping? That is very steep. :)

Anyone care to share their experience with this kind of FM adapter? By "this kind" I am referring to the types that connect to the bottom of the iPod rather than the top. I liked having the iTrip on the top as it was out of the way and let me keep my iPod plugged into my cigarette lighter to keep the charge up.

It just seems to me that the bottom connecting adapter will get in the way and make it difficult or at least awkward to interface with the scroll wheel.

Someone tell me it works fine. I have the new 5G and I miss having my tunes with me in the car. That was my primary use for my 3G iPod.

The mysterious next generation iTrip has actually been announced. Yes, it is dock connecting, and yes, it is on preorder. And yes, it has an LCD.

AND YES, the price was jacked up, and they expect us not to fork over $50 for an iTrip. I thought my 2nd generation itrip was only like $35 when I bought it. What gives, Griffin.

I've had an ipod mini with an iTrip for the past year and up until recently I thought it was one of the best things I've ever bought.

I only ever use it in the car and recently I got a new car. It used to work perfectly on my old Renault but when I changed to Toyota I found the reception to be worse. I tried changing the channel for it aswell but it always seems to go through bad patches. 85% of the time its ok though.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Also, how do you know what's the best channel to have it on?

That is a different item that also goes up the back of the nano, but it does carry the iTrip name.

Nevertheless, they are also putting on the box that the full-sized iTrip with bottom dock connector will work with the nano. Yes it will look strange, but it works, and that is why they claim it. Plus, it work act as a rest to lean the nano against and protect its bottom. :)

If I had a nano, I would get the one that macguymike just linked to though, it looks perfect.

First iPod Accessory...

I just bought the new iTrip with LED display and I am very satisfied! After having completed a cross US drive without one I really see that I will put it to use in the future...I spend a lot of time in remote/rural areas without radio stations and this will be wonderful to have music when all the radio stations are silent. I found it very easy to use right out of the box.:D

i hear ya! i drove from LA to NYC via Houston in 2002, and still wish i'd had an iPod instead of the big pile of CDs on the back seats that my friend had to keep leaning back for

I Love mine...

same here, i got one for my dads 15GB 3RD GEN, it works great in canada, we have numerous unused radio stations, i mostly use it in the dodge neon, that doesn't have a CD player, unlike the honda odyssey which has a cd player.

I use my iTrip everyday, works great! I live in a medium sized city, and the reception is very good. since I got a shuffle, my 20GB iPod basically lives with the iTrip as a hat all day, and it has worked great for almost 2 years

I have both the mini iTrip and the one for the 4G iTrip, from what i've learned. the best way to get the ideal reception is through trial and error. I lugged my iphoto last month on trips to japan and the US west coast and as you move from county to county, you have to keep changing the settings for the iTrip w/c sucks a bit. i also brought along the cassette adaptor for better sound quality, however, i couldn't use this at all times since i kept changing cars depending on where i was and moat cars nowadays don;t have the tape deck, thus i had to use the itrip.

if you're only using it for your car, the best bet for you is to get a car stereo with the built-in iPod interface. the sound quality is far superior than what the iTrip can give. in the iTrip you lose around 20% of what the iPod churns out. with the interface, sound loss is very negligible. hope this helps.

I haven't used the new iTrip, but I currently have the Monster Transmitter Recharger and I like it a lot. Its a great all-in-one product that recharges and transmits at the same time. I am kinda curious about the new iTrip though b/c of its DX/LX capabilities. My Monster connector gets a little staticy in L.A., San Francisco, etc.

Has anyone used both? Can they speak to comparison issues? I bought my wife an iPod, so now I need a second adapter!!

From what I can see this thing has no plug on the bottom for either a dock or ipod cord. it has a mini usb jack that requires you to by more cord$ or adapter$. go figure, greedy bastards:mad: looks like I wont be purchasing one any time soon.:)

here is the link to the picture i am getting this info from-

You're totaly right, I'll have to look into getting a built in interface. It would definatly be worth the money (to me anyway). I can't drive without loud music on.

You guys are probably going to hate me but..

When I had the iTrip, it worked right out of the box with 87.9 (I didn't even configure it!) and my girlfriend and I took a road trip from Chicago, IL to Grand Rapids, MI. Not a hint of static or dropouts.

Weird.

So I got the built in interface. It's great but it was expensive at €289. I could have gotten a cradle with it to hold the pod but I didn't want to be drilling holes in my mothers new car. So all it is is a lead that connects the ipod directly to the car sterio. The sterio then reads it as a CD so you can change the tracks using the radio buttons (much safer than trying to do it while driving :D)

I'm really happy with it. Also my mother has decided to get a nano so she can also get use out of it.

The iTrip is good, but the power seems to be a bit low. I have constant static problems with mine, no matter what station I use...

they released a new itrip that uses the dock conenctor that charges and is the FM transmitter all in one like the monster one...

The iTrip is GREAT! And works well, with the occasional pain to set-up the frequency, other then a few things like that its perfect. Of course I think Griffin would rather their competitors not comment on the products they have, good or bad.

the itrip is okay
but it really takes a toll on your batter life

i used it on a 4 hour drive this weekend and my battery indicator was red when i got o my destination

Cancer Issues??

I just bought my first itrip at Target for $19 and wasn't expecting much because I'd heard reviews like this before, saying that the quality sucked and sounded like a radio station. Well duh, you're playing it through the radio so of course you're going to be vulnerable to radio's staticy signals. So I wasn't expecting much.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound; I thought it'd be a lot weaker, but instead was quite strong and some of the time as good quality as a CD player. Some areas I go through are worse than others. A rule of thumb from the Apple guys was to keep the volume on the ipod at around 75% or less (btwn 50 and 75) and also to change the station if a station close by to it (within 2 stations) is taken because there will be more interference.

Cancer Issues??

Question: I've noticed that when I'm using the itrip I get a slight headache and my heart feels tighter...is it possible that the itrip signal is traveling through me?

Also, I've noticed that the signal changes according to my position. If I lean over to get something the sound quality changes, either more or less static. If I pick up the ipod then it's completely clear. I'd hold it to improve the sound except that I have to hold the steering wheel.

It makes me nervous that the itrip is sucking in these strong radio signals which could cause some kind of cancer or other adverse conditions. I'm very superstitious about these things. Anyone have any info or heard anything about this?
