My itrip is never "crystal clear", there's always some unwanted noise. It's certainly not something I would use as a permantent solution at home. But in a car, where there's always some noise anyway, I think it works fine.

Just got a new 20Gb iPod, hooked it up to the nasty little cheap plastic transmitter from eBay (like this one) and its brilliant. Just driven from the M25 down to Southamton and Winchester and back again without any change in sound quality, no retuning etc.

I found the XtremeMac Airplay to be much. much better than the iTrip. It has a digital frequency display that locks onto your empty frequency, so you don't have to "play" the frequencies as a song. Much easier, and safer, to work with while you're driving. Your music will play much clearer, also.

I would never buy the iTrip. All we have is crappy country and pop stations here.

The iTrip transmits your iPod's playing song onto a radio frequency which can be picked up by a radio receiver. It doesn't pick up external radio signals (such as crappy country and pop stations) and play them on your iPod. :)

Itrip plug wiring?

Hello,
My daughters plug got yanked out of her itrip...I can resolder the wires back but do not know where each wire goes on the plug. And of course I dont want to blow her ipod :)
Does anyone have the wiring diagram or a pic (even better) of the wires and their appropriate place on the plug?

Thank you in advance,

Chuck

Does anyone have the revised iTrip with the dial and the LCD readout yet? Is it tight?

So far I like my iTrip...it isn't perfect, but based on the sore lack of radio reception here, it seems to work well enough. It is irritating that it requires the volume to be turned way up on either the iPod or the stereo to produce a normal volume level...

I have one... it's because I bought it that I was able to sell my old iTrip to you. :)

It's MUCH easier to operate than the old iTrip, if for no other reason than you don't have to flip to the iTrip playlist and scroll through all of the frequency tracks to try a station. As far as sound quality goes, it's really not much better, although it does have a mode that's VERY clear (at the cost of being mono, not stereo).

Ahhh, I wasn't sure if you'd gotten it already. Sweet. :)

hey mad jew, that's the second person on this thread that thought the itrip plays radio stations through the ipod...wtf?

anyway, i have the LCD itrip and find that i use it much more than the old itrip simply because changing frequencies is a breeze now. sound quality is about the same, IMO, but it was never that great to begin with. for car listening, it performs well and sounds pretty good. not meant for home listening.

Well, the fun part about the iTrip (or iTrip LCD, take your pick) is that it will NOT work with the new 5g iPods... the extended headphone connector is GONE.

So, anyone interested in buying an iTrip LCD that's been used maybe twice?

I am. PMing you.

Anyone think that if Griffin comes out w/ a new iTrip (which they will) for the 5g that it will be useable on your computer as an alternative audio out? I'd be very pleased if I could stick it in my computer and listen through the stereo system behind me.

Also, would the new iTrip be 4g useable?

Well, from the way I understand things, in the absence of the connector that used to be next to the headphone port, it is going to have to use the dock connector. So probably no on your first question, but probably yes on your second...that it will probably work with any iPod with a dock connector.

Note the liberal use of probably. ;)

I second that quote. In my opinion the itrip is crap! would spend 15 minutes just trying to "connect" to a station using the itrip. also if you ever just play from your library you constantly play the itrip stations that sound like little 5 second blips. CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!
bought the "Airplay", plugged it in and it just played. doesnt look as nice as the itrip but works like a charm :) :) :)
oh and did I mention that the itrip is a piece of crap? dont waste your $$$!
I suppose the itrip lcd is the solution to the issues ive had with the original but ive never tried it. anyone have a review?

The mysterious next generation iTrip has actually been announced. Yes, it is dock connecting, and yes, it is on preorder. And yes, it has an LCD.

AND YES, the price was jacked up, and they expect us not to fork over $50 for an iTrip. I thought my 2nd generation itrip was only like $35 when I bought it. What gives, Griffin.

the itrip does indeed suck. however, i found opening it up and putting the antenna through one of the rubber feet really boosts the preformance. Of course i was board afterward and made up a mock boosted antenna, from spare radio shack parts, which goes about 50ft (directionally pointed), and needs a constant power source.

i'm working on making that portable.

That thing is going to be huge on the iPod Nano

I bought an iTrip a week ago since it seems that the cassette deck in my truck doesn't work anymore. My sony cassette adapter keeps flipping sides whenever I use it, flipping to the wrong side that the music doesn't play on.

Regardless, I'm happy with the iTrip's performance. I especially like that it comes out of the top of the iPod, so I can slip it in it's case and still have the iTrip plugged in.

My iTrip mini works like a charm. Installed the station list once to get it to lock at 87.9 FM and then removed the playlist. Since then, just plugging it into the iPod while it's playing gets it going and I'm on my way in a jiff.

It's really nice when I'm listening to music or a podcast on the train, I get off, go to my car, take out my headphones, put the iTrip in & I'm right where I left off.

I'd love a line-in solution, or a nice docking station in my car, but the $30 iTrip is doing its thing just fine.
