I want to expand on this, in case you're a dummy like me lol. After you open terminal, type:

wget http://networkpx.googlecode.com/files/hk.kennytm.grip-0.1-11n.deb <HIT RETURN BUTTON>

su <HIT RETURN BUTTON>

alpine <HIT RETURN BUTTON>

dpkg -i hk.kennytm.grip-0.1-11n.deb <HIT RETURN BUTTON>

Exit Terminal. Respring or restart your iphone. Grip should be in your Iphone settings at the bottom. Thanks again to foob, this was a great tip! :)

I keep getting ERROR 502: Bad gateway in MobileTerminal

I think the download problem is because these forums shorten links. The section of the link that is supposed to be "files/hk.kennytm.grip" is shortened to "file...ip" The link still points to the right place, but if you copy it, you get "file...ip" which doesn't work.

Try this:

Code:
http://networkpx.googlecode.com/files/hk.kennytm.grip-0.1-11n.deb

Has anyone created any themes for this yet?

not yet...and also there´s no sms support, mainly because KennyTM, the dev, uses an iphod touch, and not an iphone...so it has to be other person to make it

i think you will see an explosion of stuff made for grip once it comes out of beta, and is properly featured on cydia

other think i dream of, is having quick reply capability for IM apps...

imagine being able to reply to beejive, IM+, push notifications, without having to actually load the apps ;) right now i have a workaround, at least for twitter - i receive replies and DMs via IM+/Grip, then quickly reply with qTwitter, without having to load anything

Here is a super easy way to install it. If you just make a folder in /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall (you have to create the last two folders) then you just put the .deb file in there and the next time you install something in cydia it will be installed automatically along with it.

i must have typed something wrong i tried it again and it worked and i restarted the phone and saw the notifications but i cant find it anywhere in the settings thats kinda weird but it appears to be working though

i get:

/usr/bin/cd: line 4: cd: ~: No such file or directory

[Process completed]

in terminal when i follow the directions. does this work for 3.0/3gs? it looks really cool and i would love to try it. thanks.

can someone provide instructions for how you would go about un-installing this? (via SSH or mobileterminal)

in mobileterminal, type "dpkg -r hk.kennytm.grip" without the quotes and hit enter. Same for using ssh on a terminal.

What part of what directions causes this error? It looks like line 4 of some script is trying to move into the home directory with cd "~" instead on cd ~, but what script or program is it?

i installed it recently on my 3g, worked nice as an alternative to the annoying popups, if only he made it for sms!, i uninstalled and am eagerly waiting the cydia release! this app will fix the annoying popup problems, hopefully apple will see this and realize the made a bit of a mistake.

not quite sure, but i got it to work with mobile terminal. i was using terminal on compy before. thanks though.

ps. this shtuff is badd to the bone!!

I just installed grip 11n on my jailbroken 3gs (used redsn0w) and have push notifications enabled. Just an FYI to everyone else who may be using this, beejive im notifications "break" my home button. After I receive a beejive grip notification my home button stops working until I respring.

Mail plugin doesn't have this side effect. I don't know about other apps as beejive is the only one I've received a push from since I installed grip.

EDIT: I don't have to respring it eventually works again. May have to do with the length of time a notification is set to stay up? This is going to require more testing

I am going to attempt to report this to the dev.

i believe there's already a fix for this issue, read back in the thread.

Just installed it, works like a charm, with both push notifications and email alerts. Aside from the lack of SMS support, only gripe would be that when the phone's in sleep, and a notification fires, it doesn't wake the screen. Not a big deal though. Still beats apples notification system.

Updated version here

hk.kennytm.grip-0.1-11p.deb

Also this new project to put the notifications into the status bar

GRiP theme

Edit: Promps to rez07 as he already posted this bottom link.

2nd Edit: Got GRiP update installed, works 100% for me.

Got theme installed and selected, but it is causing phone to go into safe mode. There is an update expected to fix this problem as others have reported it also.

yeah i choosed not update after seeing that...

anyway...good times ahead...SMS support finally coming!

It was xshadow, the guy behind DHSB theme that said he would make an SMS extension, probaly with quickreply support. He didn´t announce any dates.
