iPhone owners spend a thousand dollars on a phone and then another four hundred dollars on a replacement phone. The reason? Apple produces low quality phones.

Why would any customer accept this treatment? One can buy a more than decent phone for four hundred dollars these days.

Let's keep the bashing to a minimum there is probably less than a handful of companies on EARTH that stand by their product like Apple does. I cannot think of anything as expensive as an iPhone that I can walk into the store, report my problem and almost immediately, whether it be that day or a few days later walk away with a repaired or new item.

Different people have different expectations. Having to go to the Apple store to replace your device six times due to defects isn't considered good. What's truly good is getting a solid device the first time and never having to waste your time getting it replaced.

its unfortunate that this is happening to iPhones. First I've heard of it. Wonder how truly widespread it is.

All we know is it's an incredible number. A number that defies credibility. And it's a ton, but not whether that's in metric or English weight. We also know it affects a growing number of iPhones, as opposed to a declining number.

So basically we know a lot, without knowing a single thing at all.

Love the response, I might borrow this for other things in the future :)

Well you arent correct here - Apple will NOT repair the device if out of the warranty. Most people's iphone 6's failed after the year.

Yeah, that's pretty bad if it's affecting a huge chunk of these phones. I gave my girlfriend my iPhone 6, I am really hoping that it doesn't go bad before she gets another phone. She never needs new tech, so she was planning on having it for a while and I got it on launch day...

Never seen or even heard of this.

Need actual information not just some company promoting itself saying x amount of phones have had this.

Or dumbed it down in order to be misleading. BGA isn't an unusual manufacturing technique for electronics, and the fact that it can potentially separate due to flexing is not specific to the iPhone. It's specific to BGA itself. This sounds similar to all the people that pretended cell phone attenuation was something specific to the iPhone.

So if everyone knows this then why not engineer a more robust solution (like the rigid shield and underfill) in order to mitigate it?

Had a friend who went through three 6+ iPhones trying to get this fixed last year... I didn't believe him entirely but his symptoms match this exactly! Need to apologize...

I'm seriously disappointed by Apple's quality since 2015... I went through 5 iphone 6's last year because of screen and build quality problems (they eventually gave me a 6+ for my trouble and that one failed with symptoms matching this, so now I'm on my second 6+) . I also went through three macbook pro retina (search for ping-pong gate, solder/power issues, coil whine) last year... needless to say I've stopped buying apple stuff ever since :(

I was hoping to keep this phone for a long time, but now it turns out it's a time bomb... :(

Quick, somebody start a class-action...

My screen becomes unresponsive quite often but I am usually running a beta so always put it down to software...

Hope it's not a sign of hardware issues, I got my 6+ replaced around a year ago for bending and a loose screen, so should still have warranty

That's not good at all. I want to say I'm surprised at the lack of response by Apple on this issue, but sadly I'm not. I wonder what it will take before, or if, Apple with acknowledge it and provided a reasonable remedy or replacement for the affect customers.

Wide spread public knowledge or media coverage, or a class lawsuits.

I guess this may one day end up as yet another one of those 'Apple known issue'.

I've had a related non responsive touch screen issue with my iPhone 6.

It often manifests itself as not being able to swipe to answer a call after the phone has been in my pocket. The workaround of using the power button to turn the screen off and back on again doesn't work for me since it means I'll not be able to receive the call.

Somewhere online, it was suggested that I make a change to the way I store my phone in my pants pocket. Instead of having the screen facing towards my leg, it was advised to have it stored with the screen away from my leg. Since making this change, I've not had the problem again.

So it seems that somehow having the screen in contact with my leg through my pants pocket causes the system to behave it an erratic way when a phone call is received and the screen is activated. I.E. the phone is activated with something touching the screen, and is no longer able to receive touch inputs.

This problem started happening last week for me. Of course, my warranty expired 4 months ago. At the Apple Store, they opened the phone and made sure the connection was good. It now works ok. For how long? I don't know. Someone should launch a class action lawsuit. Apple should recall all the devices.

This is the same issue for me on my 6s Plus. While it happens other times, it is really annoying when I can't answer a call.

Also, I am able to fix the issue usually by hitting the power button, but sometimes my screen stays black for about 30 sec before I am able to use it again.

I'm very concerned as an iPhone 6S+ owner.

My nephew had this very issue and the CSRs that he spoke with at the Apple store and on the phone claimed to have no knowledge of this. At the time, we did not know that this is a chronic issue. But the thread in the article goes back to May of 2015, leaving Apple with no reasonable claim of ignorance.

They eventually replaced his phone which was under warranty. But, so far, their behavior has been unacceptable.

Yeah, Im no longer buying into Apple's great customer service support after the battle to replace a 5 that was so obvious battery bloat - but the genius was determined to find some other excuse - they finally replaced but not without a lot of you gotta' be kidding mes.
I don't buy into Apple having great customer service anymore either, ever since I had to speak to 4 people over the phone over the span of 2 days to get a plastic stick on foot replacement for my Macbook Pro, when one of them fell off. Their "customer service" was so bad the part wasn't even available, and they recommended I take my machine to a service agent to get the whole back panel replaced (at my expense of course). The parts WERE available, and I could have purchased 4 feet for $3 online. Fortunately, I still had the foot that had fallen off, I cleaned off the glue and stuck it back on myself using glue I bought for $1.
