I was afraid of that. My original iPad is built like a brick house. I like that. The glass on my iPhone definitely seems thinner than on my original iPhone. I figured they had to trim down the glass to get some of the weight and thickness out of it.
Reason 101 on the list of why children are mostly snotty disasters.
Weren't you a child at one time or were you born fully grown?
Epic win for Apple, now you have to buy another one!So the smart cover really doesn't protect the device. When the little one was using it this morning, it started to slip out of her hands. She was left with the smart cover detached from the iPad. The iPad was left on the floor with a nice crack in the screen.
When I bought it I did think that the "cover" wasn't very good protection. My fault for not following through with this thought. This is just a warning for those who have little ones.
iPad 2 = amount of days used.
Weren't you a child at one time or were you born fully grown? I know I broke stuff when I was a kid... heck I still break things.
No one was dumb enough to give me breakable things early in life. From that poin on, I became very good at fixing broken things.
I stand by my children comment.
We learned that _you have no clue_ what the word "accident means".Well what did we learn from this boys and girls? This is the equation: iPad2 + small child = broken iPad2.

First off, I suspect that we will start hearing more & more stories like this about the cover for the iPad2. Anything that snaps off & on this easily can't be seriously used as protection. I know Apple is not really pitching it as such, but it is a cover nonetheless & some level of protection is implied. Personally, I am anxiously awaiting the secondary market to release a ton of great cases that offer real protection.
Second, if you do not have kids, you need to refrain from responding in this thread with dumb ass statements like "You are a moron for giving your new iPad to a kid!" or "What do you expect when you give an iPad to a child?" I have two kids age 4 & 1. I understand that stuff happens, occasionally to nice & expensive stuff, and the OP seems to be taking that attitude. I never thought that they were coming here to complain that the device is not kid-proof or kid-friendly. I read the OP as saying that the magnetic smart cover isn't really all that smart.
All correct, except for the part where the OP had to comment on the smart cover not protecting the iPad. To me that sounds like blame. The smart cover is not supposed to protect the iPad from dropping it. What comes around goes around, i guess...
