Alternative Method - Just Call

The primary reason I joined this forum was to thank you for posting this guide. It motivated me to do this today. I do want to offer another method.

I followed the method and the chat window (instead of doing the process over chat) directed me to the phone number.

I decided I would bypass an additional step and simply asked the phone attendant to perform an account activation with port (saved $10). She asked me for my Verizon Account information and passcode along with the cell number and MEID. She ran the code and said everything was good to go and asked me to call back in 1 hour.

I did so and entered the code to complete activation and all was successful. I was then able to set up my account to register my iPhone 4s on the network.

The only thing the attendant asked me at one point was: Is this a 4G phone? To which I was honestly able to answer "No."

Anyway, good stuff. Saving lots of money now!

Great to hear that we gained a member because of this guide. I am shocked that there are over 32,000 views and over seventy posts so far! The reason why I recommended the chat as it is generally quicker as there are less hold times, and I have never been asked if it was an iPhone when using chat. On the phone however, is another story. Just so that you know, you may have to reset your voicemail to get everything working if it was ported in.

PagePlus Update & Google Voice

First off, thanks for posting the how-to guide. I probably wouldn't have dumped Verizon Wireless without it.

PagePlus seems to have updated its web site, and perhaps even relaxed it's policy regarding iPhones, at least in my case with a 4S. When I clicked the Activate tab at the top of their landing page, I was given the option of porting my existing number in addition to activating. That was free, whereas requesting a new number incurred a $10 fee. So I elected to port my existing Verizon number, something I wanted to do anyway so I could maintain the Google Voice services I'd previously set up to use it. When I filled out the resulting form, it asked me for both my Verizon Wireless account number and password and I became confused, as the account has both a web password and a PIN. So I just left the password field blank and hit the Continue button. The form was accepted and I began my three hour wait. It was late anyway, so I went to bed.

Next morning, nothing had happened so I called PagePlus and spoke to "Mac", who turned out to be very helpful and knowledgeable. He confirmed that the port hadn't happened yet because of the missing password. He wasn't sure which to use, so we tried the four digit PIN first. That worked. With Mac still on the line I tried to make a call on the iPhone and got the voice dialog that told me that the phone was being programmed, so activation and porting worked. Curiously, Mac knew I was activating an iPhone even though I made no mention of the phone type to him, so perhaps they don't care any longer.

Back at the PagePlus web site, I added the iPhone to my account, then added a Plan, selecting auto refill as an option and providing my credit card info. I got a PIN activation code, then went back to the Account Summary page to see if the changes were reflected there. They weren't, so I started a chat session and was told to log out and log back in. That fixed the update problem. To see my remaining balance, I went to the Call Records page, which had an entry for the new calling plan as well as the call to test the phone. Mac said I could also send a txt message to 7243 to get my balances.

The only glitch was that Google Voice voicemail was no longer operational on the number. I figured that would happen, so first I tried to uncheck the Voicemail box on the PagePlus Manage Service Features page. No joy. Then I tried to use the Google Voice web interface to drop the iPhone and then re-add it, but that didn't work either. I used Google Search to find this page at the PagePlus web site:
https://www.pagepluscellular.com/Plans/Features.aspx#No_Answer-Busy_Transfer
but the instructions didn't work. Started another chat session and was told that No Answer Busy Transfer had been disabled on the account, and to shut down and restart the iPhone, then repeat the procedure for enabling it. That worked, so now everything is up and running just like it was before the transition. Well not quite everything, as my iPhone bill will now be about a third of what it was.

Overall, at least so far, I'm very pleased with PagePlus, especially their voice and chat tech support, and even with how easy the web site is to use. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend PagePlus to anyone using an iPhone 4S on Verizon Wireless.

Thanks again for posting the how-to, and I hope this info helps others make the jump.

Glad to hear that this guide helped another person save some dough. It does in fact seem as though they are a little bit more relaxed about iPhones now. I do not use Google Voice any more so I did not include that in my guide. Good to see that GV will in fact work for any users that are on the fence. I am surprised the response the community has given to this guide.

So I've been having trouble getting my wife's iPhone 4s programmed. I had the number ported from Verizon pretty easily, but programming with *22890, *22800, *228, *22801 fails.

When I call *22890, I get the message "Welcome to over the air programming, please hold..." but after a second of "waiting" music, I get the message "we are unable to program your phone."

When I call *228, I get the message "Welcome to *Verizon wireless* programming..." and if I follow through that menu, I think it attempts to program the phone for Verizon.

Calling any other number, like my phone, gives me a Verizon message stating, "that number cannot be completed as dialed."

Is this phone still somehow tied to the Verizon network, or is this normal? If it's normal to be getting these Verizon messages, why does *22890 fail to program the phone?

Any thoughts?

Edit: Pageplus cust. service agents have verified through the online chat that the port was successful.

Try going to Settings --> General --> Reset --> Reset Network Settings. Also call Page Plus and ensure that the ESN number is correct. They may need to reset your account.

Wow. Thanks for the quick reply! I have tried resetting the network settings, but I'm trying everything else twice anyway.

I'll double-check with Page Plus, too.

Also try restoring before getting Page Plus involved. They don't like dealing with iPhone users on CS lines.

Sorry, is restoring the same as resetting the network settings? Also, what are CS lines?

Never mind. CS lines = Cust. Service. I'm a dork.

Customer service lines are the people answering the phones. They aren't going to be helpful since you BYOD onto the network. Restoring is erasing the OS and reloading it on the phone. To do this, plug it into iTunes and click "Restore". However if your phone has so much on it you may want to give Page Plus a shot first.

Also dial *228 option 1. Let it run all the way through and it should program to Page Plus provided that the port is complete.

When I dial *228, I get a message from Verizon. "Welcome to Verizon wireless programming" If I follow through option 1, it then asks me to dial in my phone number, and then it takes me to the Verizon "payment center."

Do I have an incomplete port? Is that a thing?

Call up Page Plus and ask about your account. Say you cannot complete activation. They will help you out.

Just port the number to Verizon Wireless through MyVerizon and when you get the completion notice just dial *228 option 1. That simple... No SIM cards since it is not an LTE device.

You saying port my number back to verizon? It was on Verizon be4 and I ported it over to page plus on a iPhone 4. All I wanna do is take my page plus stuff .number, plan etc. I have on the iPhone 4 to another phone a iphone4s an activate that on page plus

Sorry, misunderstood the post. Simply do an iCloud backup on your current iPhone 4. Then Erase all Content and Settings on the 4s and restore from that backup. Then call Page Plus and give them the 4s ESN and dial *22890.
