Yes. The MacBook Pro starts with 256 GB since the retina model was introduced in 2012. Seven years later, Apple still offers the same storage in its models, despite the price drops.

And it goes without saying that 256 GB on the $6,000 Mac Pro is something Apple should be really ashamed of. Really, Apple?
Or the $999 to hold up the matching monitor. I can’t Stand it.

Wishlist for 2020 Macbook Pro to properly succeed this Macbook Pro and all the others in a way pros will flock to as a no-brainer

  • 4K Dolby Vision, HLG, & HDR10+ HDR 16:10 OLED option (VESA TrueBlack 500) rated & a more expensive mini-led option for those with baseless or legitimate concerns about burn-in with their particular use cases or want similar Pro Display XDR consistent high nits.

  • Dolby Atmos capable speakers

  • USB4 ports, do NOT waste space w/ USB-A ports (USB4 is faster USB merged w/ Thunderbolt 3)

  • HDMI 2.1 port

  • 4K HDR Web Cam like Logitech has been doing for 2+ years or at least matching the iPhone 11 Pro Front-facing camera

  • FaceID + TouchID available

  • AR Camera

  • Scissor switches return + a low-profile mechanical switch

  • AMD GPU w/ Ray-tracing & Deep learning cores or Nvidia RTX options

  • Upgrade touchbar to be a legit 2nd screen like the Zenbook Pro Duo to be more useful for everyday folk, content creators, and pros.
Dolby Atmos on anything other than a dedicated home theater system with two planes of speakers (ear level and height level) is purely a marketing gimmick.

And why would you ever need or want an AR cam on a clamshell laptop? I tried, and honestly, I can’t think of a single reason.

From a content production perspective & user of Dolby Atmos on a variety of platforms, I respectfully disagree strongly on Dolby Atmos. It's a don't go back experience w/ the laptops that have Dolby Atmos playing Dolby Atmos content. It also better makes more appealing their iTunes content (including their orignials) that have & WILL have Dolby Atmos support.

The Macbook Pro is supposed to accommodate content producers, Dolby Atmos support is a no-brainer to aspire to create the content that is already available on their platform supporting Dolby Atmos. It's long-overdue.

As far AR, it's a similar thing. With professional apps such as Adobe's AR creative apps, it makes sense that your portable laptop is a platform to try out AR content just like your iPhone & iPAd. It's also long-overdue and pretty much needed to more easily port iPhone & iPad apps in the way I supposed (upgrading the touchbar to be a 2nd display very much like the Zenbook Pro Duo).

Today! Today!

Can't wait to see iJustine ham it up with "OH MY GOD"

Sorry to those of you who were certain it would be 2020
I'm about to return my MacBook Pro I purchased on the 6th of Nov. I kept is sealed hoping that the 16in might get announced. Heading to Bridgewater location as soon as they open today. I work nights but I'll sacrifice my sleep time. o_O

4% larger? Sure to replace the 15" that is fine, but as a 17" replacement, doesn't get you much.

Well, the 17-inch model is history at this point, and not coming back. The way I see it, the 16-inch is a replacement to the 15.4-inch model. A slightly larger display, more to reduce the bezels than to provide any additional real estate screen to the users.

The screen on the new MacBook Pro is less than 4% larger than the current 15.4 inch

We want an 18 inch Macbook Pro.

Eighteen inches.

Scale it up.

Take my money. Now let’s hope for 512GB as base storage ;)
That'll be an additional $1000 premium for that feature "privilege".

That's not what she said.

Finally! I've been waiting for this 16" to come out. The last MBP I had I sold in September.. Apple "Take my money now" !!
They have MiniLED at minimum next year; like many Apple products that get revised in a major way, it seemingly makes sense by the minute to wait till the next update unless you're on a 2015 rMBP on its last legs or something.

Especially if this laptop doesn't have Wifi6, LPDDR4 RAM, or PCIe4

improved ambient noise reduction feature enabling users to capture less background noise when using the built-in microphones

The FBI has complained about the background noise. Tim Apple said: "Don't worry guys, I've got your back!"

  • Dolby Atmos capable speakers Atmos on laptops are gimmicky in my view, heck most atmos setups, even expensive ones really miss the bar.

  • USB4 ports, do NOT waste space w/ USB-A ports (USB4 is faster USB merged w/ Thunderbolt 3) Sounds reasonable. One question would be whether HDMI 2.1/2.2 is actually a superior solution to thunderbolt 3 and could in the future take it over or at least be considered as an inclusion.

  • HDMI 2.1 port Just read this after having wrote the previous point, great minds think alike :).

  • 4K HDR Web Cam like Logitech has been doing for 2+ years or at least matching the iPhone 11 Pro Front-facing camera As we are stuck on 720p I don't see this having any chance on a laptop. I have heard there is technical difficulties to put a iPhone camera into a laptop due to how thin the screens are. But a 1080p FaceID solution would be one of the best things they could do.

  • FaceID + TouchID available Agreed

  • AR Camera I think we should leave AR to iPhones due to maneuverability personally.

  • Scissor switches return + a low-profile mechanical switch option for devs I think optical keys may be the future due to less theoretical failure.

  • AMD GPU w/ Ray-tracing & Deep learning cores or Nvidia RTX options Nvidia would be a dream but will sadly never happen. I think one of the limitations that Apple tries to stay within is the 100W power limit which some competitors don't restrict them to, so no matter what way they go, it will never be as powerful as the competition.

  • Upgrade touchbar to be a legit 2nd screen w/ touch screen functionality like the Zenbook Pro Duo to be more useful for everyday folk, content creators, and other pros. Makes it easier to port iPad & iPhone apps to MacOS I'd get rid of touch bar and create keys with custom changable LED's. No more need to make different language/variations of keyboards, it can all be manually changed!

  • [Boss move but probably too cost prohibitive in 2020]: For i18n, upgrade the physical keys to be OLED keys to easily change the keyboard layout without non-canonical mappings. We do really think alike!

My thoughts on the wishlist :).

I have to laugh...

It's only 6:30am EST and people are already looking to see if the Apple webpage is down for updates.

Someone mentioned they are going to the Apple store at opening.

Please! I don't think there will be an official announcement until at least 9am PST.

We don't even know the MBP will actually go on sale today, though chances are pretty great it will.

And please, stop asking for a Magsafe connector. That ship has long sailed. If you want one, do what I did and go for this:

Curious as to why 13" (or 14") is pushed to next year.
Because they want to see how the public receives the new 16" Pro -- specifically the new keyboard. Plus, they probably have tons of inventory of the old Pros and want to sell them off with the holiday season (Costco = $999.) Release a new 13" Pro right now and you've suddenly got people asking themselves, "what do I buy?" Apple's not dumb; they're going to clear out old inventory first.

Why would they update the 13" twice in a year?

It's already been updated.

If they are going to do more revisions or push a 13" to a 14" it will be next March (most likely)
