As everyone else is saying, $2000 is still too much.

Too much for the bill of materials+apple tax? probably not...

But it's still a niche device.

People wouldn't be interested in paying $2000 for anything frivolous. Sub $1000 to have a hope in hell of shifting units in significant numbers BUT word is already out there that most the people that paid $3500 regret their purchase and barely use the device once the novelty wore off.

Significant changes are needed for it to have any kind of mass appeal and "lowering" the price to $2000 isn't anywhere near enough to stoke interest.

I loved my Meta Quest 3 initially but no price point will fix the main issue of "having to place something on your face". I don't even know how to explain it but there is like this "inner voice" telling me not to put it on, like a bag of chips laying in the corner telling me not to eat it. The fact that you cant just grab it like a phone also does not help. I need to get up, get it out of its case, put it on, adjust it. I probably spent 70 % of the time wearing it, adjusting the fit, hoping it would make a difference but nope, the issue is simply having something rest on my cheeks.

From the alternate universe where the Vpro came first and became the beloved "my precious", followed by iPhone many years later....

I loved my old land line phone but no price point will fix the main issue of "having to carry a brick around in a pocket." I don't even know how to explain it but there is like this "inner voice" telling me not to pocket one of these contraptions, like a bag of chips laying in the corner telling me not to eat it (but inevitably I will anyway because I love them chips). The fact that you can't just drop it down over your eyes as easily as a Vpro does not help. I need to dig into my pocket, lift it up to a level where I can see it, make sure I don't have anything on my face to inhibit FACEID, if I do have something on face, I then have to try to recall a password to log in, then find the right app I want to use by having to slide my finger around (greasing up the screen with prints) and click vs. just looking at the app and doing one simple gesture. Worst of all: what a freaking puny screen!!! How does anyone get anything done on such a tiny screen? What's the point of this smart phone when Vpro runs all of the same apps and many others at the same time on an ANY size screen?

I probably spent 70% of the time trying to make a go of this iPhone, hoping it would make a difference but nope, the issue is simply having a brick always pressing against my (other) cheeks. And whose insane idea was it to try to put thousand dollar tech made of glass in pockets where we then forget and sit on it? And since there's a volatile lithium ion battery inside, one wrong sit puts the other "my precious" in grave danger. What is the point of this thing? What's the use case?

;)

no one buys the standard phones. the pros are $1200. the first iPhone launched at $600 but then they quickly cut the price to $400 and all the ones after that were subsidized so well from carriers all you had to do was sell the previous model unlocked and it paid for itself to upgrade

Plenty of people buy "standard phones." According to Counterpoint research (MR article link below), the top selling iPhone in 2023 was the "standard" (non-Pro) iPhone 14.

As far as the price of early iPhones without contract requirements, the starting price of a 16GB iPhone 4 was $649 which is around $940 in today's dollars. The larger, more capable iPhone 16 with eight times the storage (128GB) is only $829.

Give them some style. Make them round kind of like this (obviously it will have to be bulkier):
steampunk-round-goggles-silver-goggles-showcase-456800_800x.jpg

Also good because the round goggle look implies to people that you can see them. Keep EyeSight but make it fun with pixel eyes instead of trying to go for realism.
Move processing to the back of the head to even out weight.
Would be nice to be able to quickly flip up/down the lenses.

I could see a company like Nothing, doing something like this.

The days of Apple doing anything remotely fun, quirky, or out-of-the-box ended with the G4 iMac.

Haha good one. To be fair, an iPhone is just an evolution of a Nokia 5110. A VR headset is a completely new thing, resting on your face.

Price is not the only reason why the Vision Pro is not selling. There's just no compelling reason to have one. A $2,000 or even $1,000 version still won't sell. Find a killer app. Without that it'll never sell.
I'm honestly not sure there is a killer app for most people. I could see some very specific use cases (maybe an interior decorator or something) where it could be really nice for placing 3D objects in an existing room to plan. But for the every day person, I just don't see a viable use case even if some of the technical hurdles are resolved.

I cannot picture myself wearing one of these on my head for any price. The OS and the technology look amazing, but I am 52 years old and I just have a line that I am unwilling to cross for my personal technology devices. I guess I am just probably too old, which is fine. I have been an early adopter of tech for much of my life, I feel no requirement to adopt all new technologies. With luck we all eventually start getting old.

If it’s available for €2000 and works under Windows for gaming then I’m sure lots of people will be interested, me included.
It’s exceedingly unlikely that it will. Apple doesn’t want to be a gaming hardware manufacturer. To be interesting for gaming, it would also need to support 3D hand controllers.

They could also double as welding goggles 👨‍🏭

Another vote for <$1000 before I'd even consider, in case anyone's listening. I'd be fine with tethered to iPhone or Mac.

It’s going to be hard to make the audience want something like this. Even at $2000-1000 this will continue to be a niche product. I like the product that exist, just not at that price. $1000 AND it has a cellular modem (meaning it could be subsidized or bought through monthly plans) will help it break away from simply being a niche product. The glasses are likely the best place all this can go.

Just wondering which planet Tim Cook lives on where $2000 is affordable.
…Have you lived in major tech city areas?

In San Francisco $4,000 is the average rent for 1 bed room and PC components such as proper 4K+ cards re $4,000; the average salary needs to live in many of such areas with or without roommates is over $125,000.

Also portable prosumer OLED monitors with Dolby Vision HDR are $3000 minimum.

I would like to see the googles that can be used with a MacBook Pro. Let the MBP do the computing and use the Vision to do the visual work; for productivity, most folks are going to be at a desk / power source anyway.

Give it up, Apple... you aren't making 'Vision Pro' or 'VR' happen to a mass market.
The Vision Pro isn’t a mass market device and Apple has several products that they never make a mass market SKU indefinitely:

Do you see a mainstream version of their desktop towers (Mac Pro)? No.

The Vision Pro is best to not to have a low-end one and they have mainstream and a prosumer variant of AR glasses IMO

The Vison Pro already enables this; it connects to Intel/Mx Mac Pros and Macbooks seamlessly and even has the highly anticipated 5K2K mode upcoming to enable more versatile computing with them.

I use my Vision Pro like this at work and home all the time when I’m not using my Pro Display XDR, or 5K2K Ultrawides

I was going to say it’s still too expensive, but then again, I’m not sure there’s a price point at which I’ll consider buying one.
