I don’t think that’s going to happen anymore. Jony Ive has departed. Expect no more thin designs. Everything will be shifted towards battery life, performance and efficiency.
You mythologize Ive’s departure too much. The MacBook Air will still be as thin as possible, it’s just with the Pro models where they have decided the thickness is worth it. The new iMac is also way thinner than its predecessor. The Mac Pro will be a quarter size of what it’s currently. In the end, the design team remains largely the same. I bet this trend would have happened with Ive too (in fact, iPhones started to get thicker with him in charge).

Yeah, the circle jerk is very tiring. We are literally in a post about a computer that's rumoured to get thinner and someone is talking about how they aren't making thinner designs anymore. That's just silly.

Also, Jony I've probably had a hand in all the machines people point to as "proof" of his departure.

No mention of miniLED by Gurman mmm… I am thinking apples way forward for the mac line up will be…

Colours, White Bezels and white keyboards for the consumer level Macs… (MacBook Air, iMac)

Black bezels, notch, black keyboards, miniLED and Promotion for prosumer level Macs… (MacBook Pro, iMac Pro)

If apple was going to bring the notch to the MacBook Air, I suspect it would have appeared on the base iMac also.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up seeing white bezels on the iPhone 14 non-pro models this year also…

Looks like the Macbook lineup is going to finally make sense again.

There's the MacBook Air for students and average consumers for around $1000. And then there's the heavy duty powerful 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro's for +$2000 for actual pros.

The clear majority of comments in various forums and under youtube videos about this new Macbook do not want white bezels or a white keyboard.
Hopefully Apple will at least make a version in the familiar sober design with black bezels and a black keyboard in space grey.

2018 was arguably a bigger redesign than 2010 and this will probably be less significant than that.
I expect the motherboard to be quite similar. The major change will likely be the new shape, there’s too much stuff that’s actually been redesigned recently and just needs updates to fit the new aesthetics.

They also don't want a notch and Apple didn't pay them any mind. The iMac 24 didn't get a black bezel option so I doubt the air would.

I find the notch nowhere near as bad as a white keyboard. It's just impractical. The notch doesn't even protrude into the display. The only thing that bothers me about the notch is that it can't do face ID.

I'm convinced that they're slowly and surely going to stop the rumors or at the very least.

get the rumor mill so inaccurate to the point where people won't pay much attention anymore and wait for their Events/announcements.

What about the base Macbook Pro? I do hope they would give it some love.
I think it will end up disappearing in favor of the new 14-in.
Maybe they should revive it as a standard MacBook instead.
Yes, the 14" has effectively replaced the 13" Pro. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go completely as sales drop away. I think Apple sees the MBA as the entry-level machine - it's not obvious how they would produce a much cheaper model (memory, ports and SSD are already minimal, CPU can't be trimmed, so screen and colours might be the only real options). I'd have thought they would be more likely to keep the current MBA as an entry level system when they announce the new one. Colours would sell it.

For the general consumer white or black bezels should not matter, if you need black bezels their must be a reason for it, in which case a prosumer option is likely better suited for your needs.

I think many rumours are starting to conflict as I think Apple may have two new MacBooks in the pipeline, I think the one rumoured with white bezels is probably going to replace the Air and be called ‘MacBook’ it will be an ultra slim design with only USB-C, 13” LCD display, white bezels without a notch, colours, Touch ID and M2 chipset probably getting a $1099 price tag.

I think the refreshed Air will likely replace the entry level Pro, will sport black bezels and notch, get a 14” LCD display (potentially miniLED without promotion), USB-C ports, a slimmed down version of the higher end pro design language coming in your standard silver and space grey options with the M2 chipset, I expect the price will be around $1399 or $1499 depending on if it gets miniLED or not.

With this in mind the line up will look something like…

MacBook 13” - $1099
MacBook Air 14” - $1399 or $1499
MacBook Pro 14” - $1999
MacBook Pro 16” - $2499

This would likely be apples best way of doing it…

The MacBook is perfect for the lightest of users who just need the cheapest MacBook possible and sent fussed about the extra bells and whistles.

The MacBook Air is perfect for those who dabble in Pro work flows now and again who need something slim and light.

The MacBook Pro for the prosumer who need that extra power for their work flows.

This line up makes the most sense as Apples iPad line up matches it with the base iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro lines

I really wish I knew whether they will release a new Mac Mini this year. I need a new stationary computer but would feel silly if I bought the Mac Mini M1 and then the redesign with M1 Pro would be dropped a month later. If they would just come out and say ”in March” I could just buy one as that is 5 months away.

Yeah no, they'll make you fork out the money for the Pro if you don't want the teenage girl design language. Whether that be the iMac or Macbook.
Apple know their customers and no they will pay premium for black bezels.

And it matches up with the iPhone with it's base iPhone, iPhone Air and iPhone Pro lines...

I think a more likely scenario is that the new 14" Macbook replaces both the current 13" devices, with a range of performance options to cover the price range from $999 (for education, 1099 for others) up to $1400-1500. Potentially M1 sticking around in the low end, with M2 and a possibility of an M2 Pro...

27 inch iMac is rumored to reveal on Q1,2022. I guess there should be a March event.
They have the chips for it now. I find it kind of disappointing it's not going to be released this year. The current model is more than a year old already.

Mmm… one mac event after another I doubt it, think we will see the last of the transition at WWDC now, where Tim Apple can flex that the 2 year transition to Apple silicon is complete, I expect the Mac Mini to be launched as a site refresh between now and then though.

I expect in March we will see:

iPhone SE
iPad Air
Watch SE 2
AirPods Pro 2 possibly…

WWDC I expect…

iMac Pro
Mac Pro
Maybe new pro display

Then September having the usual iPhone and Apple Watch launch

Then October M2 announcement with the MacBook Air, Mac Mini, iPad Pro lines refreshed… that’s my prediction

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that he doesn't expect Apple to hold another event or make any other major product announcements this year, while turning his attention to what we can expect next year.

Apple held an event in November 2020 to introduce its first Macs with its custom-designed M1 chip, but Gurman believes Apple has nothing else left of substance on its roadmap that would be ready to launch before the end of 2021.

Gurman believes that a new MacBook Air with an entirely new design and an Apple-designed M2 chip will launch in around six to eight months from now. He believes the upcoming model will represent the biggest redesign of the MacBook Air since 2010, with a rumor earlier this week claiming that the notebook will have a similar design as the 24-inch iMac, including off-white bezels around the display and a variety of color choices.

Gurman also expects a larger iMac with Apple silicon, a new Mac mini, a new iPhone SE, and a new iPad Pro to launch after the calendar turns to 2022.

Following the unveiling of redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple's next-generation M1 Pro and M1 Max chips this week, the only Intel-based Macs remaining in Apple's lineup include a low-end 21.5-inch iMac targeted at the education market, the 27-inch iMac, the high-end Mac mini, and the Mac Pro tower.

I understand Apple will need to raise the price, but they also need to justify the price increase while keeping it as low as possible. I think $1299 is the most it can increase and still be a success, though they need to include 2 USB C ports in addition to MagSafe.. Then update the current MacBook Air with the latest entry level chip (keeping it starting at the same price) and rebrand it as MacBook SE and then call the new machine just MacBook.

MacBook Air 14” - $1399 or $1499

I hope they won't make the same mistake again, calling the smaller one MacBook, and the bigger one Air. And if you really wanna go with an ipad analogy, where is the MacBook Mini? :)

What I hope for is the rumored colorful thinggy will be a MacBook, and there will be a 12-13" Air under a kilo and without a Hitler mustache.

It's almost November. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to predict that Apple is done with big announcements for 2021.

Agree, the 2015 'macbook' was a flop because it was a thin obsessed John Ive vanity project trying to answer a question no one asked:high end design sub notebook with under powered intel processor and a $1299 list price..
My hunch why the 'macbook' was a failure because the original intention was for it to be the first mac os device to use apple silicon but the engineering team was not happy with the performance hence used a potato intel core m 4.5 watt processors instead.

Apple shouldn't race to the bottom like Microsoft trying to capture every segment with pointless compromised devices cannibalizing each other, heck they still sell 4gb ram eMMC storage dual core Surface go 3 and surface go laptops in 2021...

Apple 2022 range should go as

low range- education market bias: bland imac, 'macbook'(no touch id, 60hz screen, using old M1 chips)
mid range- consumer level range: fruity colored M2 Air, ,M2 imac
high range- pro content creator range : xyz-pro exclusively using PRO/MAX chips

One prediction is that there will be a $1399 15 inch non pro M2 macbook/air . there is a huge market for a bigger screen (boomers) laptop but do not want or need screamer benefits of a PRO/MAX tier 14/16 inch pros.
